Peace and Well-being

After being unconscious for a full day and night, Lily Evans finally woke up.

As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Alexander Hayes, looking scruffy and unshaven, keeping vigil by her side.

The moment Alexander Hayes saw Lily Evans awaken, it was as if life returned to him.

Dr. Rowan Lin immediately came to check Lily Evans’s pulse and smiled, saying, “Lily is out of danger now. She just needs a good rest. But she’ll need to stay in confinement for forty-five days to fully recover.”

“That’s wonderful, truly wonderful!” Alexander Hayes kept kissing Lily Evans’s hand, unable to contain his joy.

“Look at you, all happy! Didn’t I say, with Dad and Quentin here, I’d be just fine? By the way, where’s the baby? Has the transfusion been completed?” Lily Evans asked anxiously, eager to see her child.

“The baby’s perfectly fine! The transfusion was done before you woke up. Dad checked his pulse and said everything’s normal! Thanks to your brave effort during labor and Quentin’s transfusion treatment, our son wasn’t affected by the poison—he’s a bright, healthy boy!” Alexander Hayes said excitedly, quickly calling for the nanny to bring the baby in.

A fair-skinned, slightly plump nanny entered, carrying the baby.

Lily Evans’s eyes were instantly glued to the swaddled bundle, unable to look away.

The nanny brought the baby to Lily Evans’s side and unwrapped the swaddle, letting her see her child.

In the swaddle lay a tiny, red, wrinkled baby, looking just like a little monkey, eyes closed and sleeping soundly.

Lily Evans nervously examined the baby’s features and expressions, relieved to find no signs of dullness or delay.

“Rest assured, Princess Consort. Young Charles eats well and sleeps soundly. Though he was born a bit early, his body is strong,” the nanny said with a smile to Lily Evans. “He takes after the Prince—just as sturdy as his father!”

Alexander Hayes immediately chimed in, “Don’t worry, my dear. I’ve always been strong and rarely sick. Our son takes after me—even if he arrived two months early, he’ll grow up to be a fine, healthy man!”

Lily Evans smiled and gently stroked the baby’s delicate face. “All I wish is for him to be safe and healthy. By the way, Alexander, have you decided on a name for our son?”

Alexander Hayes took Lily’s hand and said tenderly, “Whatever name you wish for our child, that’s what he shall be called.”

Lily Evans thought for a moment, gazing at her tiny son in the swaddle. “Let’s call him Charles—after ‘lasting happiness and well-being.’ Charles Hayes.”

“Charles Hayes, Charles Hayes…” Alexander Hayes repeated the name, his eyes shining. “A wonderful name. Charles will surely live up to your hopes—lasting happiness and well-being!”

Dr. Rowan Lin watched the couple name their child and smiled. “It seems parents everywhere share the same wish—for their children to be healthy and well.”

“Oh? Why do you say that, Dad?” Lily Evans looked up and smiled at Dr. Rowan Lin.

Dr. Rowan Lin stroked his beard and said, “Just yesterday I heard that Arthur Evans and Belle named their daughter Connie—hoping for her good health. Both your families have truly been blessed with these children, after so many hardships.”

No sooner had Dr. Rowan Lin finished speaking than a plaintive voice called from outside the door, “Other parents put so much thought into names—meaning this, meaning that. But my dad named me in a hurry, just because I was born in May, so I’m called Quentin! If I’d been born in June, July, or August, would I be called Quentin Two, Quentin Three, Quentin Four?”

Lin Xiaowu poked his chubby little head inside, then dashed in like a tiny cannonball.

Dr. Rowan Lin saw Lin Xiaowu and coughed awkwardly, then made up an explanation: "Of course not. When I named you, I put a lot of thought into it. 'Xiaowu'—between one and ten, it represents moderation and balance. Isn't it a lovely name?"
