Unstoppable Rumors
All the young nuns in the temple joined forces and finally managed to drag Madam Lou back.
Her hair was a wild mess, her appearance terrifying—she looked as if she was possessed by something unholy.
People in ancient times were superstitious, and seeing Madam Lou like this, most of them believed her words without question.
Abbess Grace, seeing the chaos Madam Lou had caused, sent the other worshippers away, closed the temple doors early, and settled Madam Lou in a side room. She also told the young nuns not to gossip.
But even if the young nuns kept quiet, the dozens of noble ladies outside had all witnessed and heard everything firsthand. There was no way to keep Madam Lou’s outburst at the temple a secret now.
By now, Madam Lou had finally fallen asleep, lying on the bed in the side room with her hair still in disarray.
Beside her, Lucy Lou and Nanny Mo were worried sick and went to ask Abbess Grace what had really happened.
Abbess Grace couldn’t say for sure either; she guessed Madam Lou had either been frightened or was under some kind of spell.
Madam Lou hadn’t slept long before she woke up again, shouting that Lily Evans was a monster, had given birth to a little monster, and was coming to eat her alive.
Madam Lou’s behavior was growing more and more unhinged.
