Clinging to the Prince's Leg
Alexander Hayes stared speechlessly at Sean Hayes. "Sean, did you do something to betray me?"
Sean Hayes sobbed and shook his head. "No, no, how could I ever betray you, Your Highness?"
"Then what did you do that's so serious I'd feed you to the wolves?" Alexander asked, standing with his hands behind his back, looking down at Sean.
Sean cried even harder, snot and tears everywhere, suddenly clinging to Alexander Hayes's leg and howling, "Your Highness, from now on I can't serve you or work for Lady Hayes anymore! Boohoo! If you remember me during festivals or memorial days, just burn a little paper money for me, okay? Waaaah..."
Su Li stared at Sean Hayes in confusion. Wasn't this guy just fighting Simon Yu for crispy chicken in the kitchen? Now he's acting like it's the end of the world—did he get possessed or something?
Alexander Hayes looked speechlessly at the sobbing Sean, grabbed him by the collar, shook him in midair, and tossed him aside.
Sean landed with a howl, then rushed back and hugged Alexander Hayes's leg again, crying while rubbing his face on Alexander's leg. "Your Highness, I can't bear to leave you, or Lady Hayes! Waaaah!"
Alexander Hayes's face turned dark as a grown man clung to his leg. He shook his leg several times, but Sean held on so tightly that Alexander couldn't shake him off—he'd basically gained a new leg accessory.
"...Sean, what exactly did you do? Stop crying and explain yourself." Alexander said, face still dark.
Sean sobbed, covering his face. "Your Highness, I... I really can't say..."
"You have to say it, even if it's hard!" Alexander Hayes gritted his teeth, wondering what kind of madness had taken over Sean today.
If Sean wanted to act crazy, fine, but why did he have to cling to Alexander's leg like his life depended on it? Was Alexander's leg something just anyone could hug?
Sean steeled himself, thinking he was here to confess anyway. If he could trade his own life for Mrs. Penny and the child's, what was there to be afraid of?
So Sean sat on the floor, crying as he confessed everything. By the end, he was wailing, "Your Highness, Princess Consort, I'm willing to give up my life! Please, have mercy on Mrs. Penny and the child! In my next life, I'll repay you by serving as your ox or horse!"
"Sean, what did you say? Mrs. Penny is pregnant, took abortion medicine herself, and now Simon Yu is trying to save the baby?" Lily Evans grabbed Sean by the collar, panicked.
Sean nodded, sobbing.
"Why are you still crying here? Go, hurry and check on Mrs. Penny!" Lily urged, rushing outside. Alexander followed, and Sean, stunned for a moment, scrambled up and ran after them.
Lily was frantic, thinking Mrs. Penny and Sean were both idiots—what on earth were they up to?
Lily hurried to Mrs. Penny's courtyard, and as soon as she entered, she smelled blood.
Alexander and Sean, close behind, clearly smelled it too. Sean's face turned pale. "Why does it smell so strongly of blood? Didn't Simon Yu say his medical skills could save Mrs. Penny and the child? Mrs. Penny... she can't be in trouble, right?"
Sean's face went ghostly white as he dashed into the house.
Lily, worried, followed right behind. Alexander, being a man, stayed outside with a grave expression, hands behind his back, lost in thought.
