One Mother, Two Babies

As soon as she entered the room, Lily Evans saw Mrs. Penny lying on the bed, her face pale as paper, completely still. It was unclear if she was asleep or had fainted.

Simon Yu was beside her, organizing his medicine chest, while Sean Hayes knelt at the bedside, clutching Mrs. Penny's hand, his anxiety written all over his face. "Peony, wake up! How are you feeling? Don't scare me. If anything happens to you, I won't be able to go on..."

Simon Yu packed his medicine chest and shot Sean a look of disdain. "Tsk, you're a grown man and this is all you can manage? All you do is cry, cry, cry! What's the point of all that crying?"

"You wouldn't understand, you single dog!" Sean spat.

Simon Yu was momentarily stumped. He thought of himself as a fine young man, already in his twenties and still single, and suddenly felt a wave of sadness. He snapped, "Do you have any conscience? I worked so hard to save your woman and child, and this is how you talk to me?"

"What did you say? Peony and the baby are both safe?" Sean froze, then lunged forward, grabbing Simon Yu by the collar.

"Let go! What's wrong with you—always grabbing people at the drop of a hat. Are you crazy?" Simon Yu struggled free, coughed twice, and said, "One adult, two babies—I saved them all! Heh, my medical skills aren't just talk, you know... Hey, where are you going? I'm not finished yet!"

Sean suddenly seemed supercharged, darting to Peony's bedside, so excited he could hardly speak.

Lily Evans stood nearby, watching the scene unfold, finally letting out a sigh of relief. She turned to Simon Yu and asked, "Young Master Yu, what did you just say? One adult, two babies?"

Simon Yu nodded and replied, "Miss Evans, this young lady is pregnant with twins. It's still early, but my diagnosis is never wrong—it's definitely twins."

Twins! Oh wow, Sean Hayes really lucked out—two babies at once!

"Thank you for your hard work, Simon. Go get some rest. I'll have the kitchen make something delicious for you," Lily Evans said.

Only then did Simon Yu realize his stomach was rumbling—he hadn't even had dinner yet. He shot Sean a look, slung his medicine chest over his shoulder, and headed out.

Sean Hayes stayed by the bedside, clutching Mrs. Penny's hand, alternating between tears and laughter. "Mrs. Penny, you're having twins! You're going to give me two babies... but from now on, I can't stay with you and the children. I'm sorry..."

Lily Evans watched Sean's goofy antics, shook her head, and stepped outside.

Outside, Alexander Hayes was still waiting. As Lily Evans came out, he looked her way: "Simon Yu just told me everything."

"Yes, luckily both mother and children are safe. Mrs. Penny is actually pregnant with twins—what wonderful news," Lily Evans replied.

Alexander Hayes paused for a moment, then said, "Wife, according to the rules of the Hayes Family Shadow Guard, if they insist on keeping the children, they'll have to accept punishment from the organization."

Lily Evans looked up at Alexander Hayes. "Rules are made by people. Mrs. Penny and Sean have always been loyal and have contributed so much. Besides, everyone has emotions and desires—it's only human. Sometimes, compassion should come before strict laws."

Alexander Hayes frowned. "If we bend the rules for Mrs. Penny and Sean, won't the rest of the Shadow Guard follow suit?"

Alexander Hayes pressed his lips together as he looked at Lily Evans. If this had been the old him, back before he understood love, he would have harshly punished Mrs. Penny and Sean for getting involved in such 'useless' emotions.

But now, having Lily Evans by his side, Alexander Hayes was learning that love could change everything. Maybe some rules were meant to be broken.
