The Damaged World‑Realm

Evan Yang and Brocade raised their eyebrows. The man asked curiously, "How did you get in here? You don’t look like people about to die."

"We came in through a special passage," Evan replied.

"Oh? Is that so? Then you’re really lucky—to get to wander around here before dying. If there’s nothing else, you’d better leave." The man smiled.

"Senior, do Heavenly Dao experts really die?" Evan asked, curious.

"Die? That’s just the physical body. The soul remains. Most here lost their bodies, but their souls are hidden somewhere, waiting for reincarnation. But to reincarnate, you have to go through many tribulations and might die along the way. Some don’t want to reincarnate at all—they keep existing as souls in some corner of the world, living their lofty lives." The man laughed.

Evan smiled after hearing this. "Senior, are you planning to reincarnate, or stay here in this world?"

"Me? I’ll hang around for now, and look for a chance. If I get a chance to return without reincarnation, that’d be best. If not, then I’ll just reincarnate." The man laughed.

"Then, Senior, I won’t disturb you any longer." Evan stood up and said.

"Mm, go on. If you don’t have anything to do here, leave soon—the death aura in this place isn’t good for you." The man smiled.

Evan smiled at his words, then left with Brocade. Still, he couldn’t stop thinking about the question: just who created such a massive graveyard, and who could possibly have that kind of power?

"Boss, should we keep looking?" Brocade felt it was getting difficult to search, so he asked helplessly.

"Of course we'll keep looking. It's still early—let's go." Evan smiled.

So Brocade and Evan continued walking through the graveyard, until they saw a grave not far ahead—a grave marked by a statue. The statue looked almost exactly like Brocade’s current form.

Brocade sensed some kind of connection to the statue. Drawn by an invisible force, he slowly walked over. Evan, curious, followed—but when they reached the grave, Evan was blocked outside. No matter how he tried, some strange power kept him from getting any closer.

"Boss, you—" Brocade was startled when he saw Evan like that.

Evan smiled. "It’s fine. Go on—maybe you really will find memories of your past."

Brocade nodded, then walked up to the statue. From the statue, a voice came: "Child, is that you?"

"Who are you?" Brocade was startled by the gentle, familiar voice.

"Me? Of course I’m your mother. I gave birth to you here years ago, but I was afraid you’d die in this place. So during a graveyard storm, I sent you out, hoping you’d be safe. Now, seeing you again, so grown up—it truly makes me happy." The voice was clearly emotional.

Brocade’s eyes reddened as he listened. "Mother, are you really my mother? Where are you now? What about your soul?"
