Susie Yun stared blankly at Damien Gray. Ghostmaster? The master of the Ghost Guild is actually the Ghost King? Ryan Ouyang was equally astonished. His nemesis had been by his side all along, and he hadn’t even realized it. He sighed inwardly—no wonder he was never a match for someone so cunning!
Both the living and the ghost regained their composure after a moment’s surprise. After all, they’d always known Damien Gray was no ordinary man—now he simply had one more remarkable identity, which wasn’t so hard to accept.
Damien Gray stretched out his arm and pulled Morgan Shangguan into his embrace, speaking softly, "Mo'er, we need to make some preparations first."
Susie Yun stared at the two, dazed. When did Miss and the Ghost King become so close?
Morgan Shangguan snorted coldly, "Preparation? What is there to prepare?" As she spoke, she tried to pry away the arm at her waist, but Damien Gray wouldn’t let go.
Watching the ambiguous atmosphere between the two, Susie Yun hesitated, then decided it was best not to interrupt. She quietly tugged Ryan Ouyang and slipped outside the carriage.
Damien Gray glanced at Susie Yun, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. Clearly, he appreciated her tact.
Holding tightly to the reluctant woman in his arms, Damien Gray spoke earnestly, "Mo'er, we need to nurture our relationship. Otherwise, with so many people around, someone might see through us by accident!"
With Duanmu Li at Blue Lake Tavern, and now Quentin Hua appearing as well, how could he possibly feel comfortable letting her stay there? Any chance for her to end up in someone else’s arms had to be crushed before it could even sprout—no, the very seeds had to be ground to dust!
In truth, the only reason he knew Morgan Shangguan was unaware of the national festival’s timing was because he understood her so well. If she knew about the event, she’d never choose such a suspicious excuse as praying for blessings. Though suspicion was inevitable, she would do her best to avoid it.
And in fact, that was exactly the case!
Morgan Shangguan couldn’t break free, nor did she feel like trying anymore. Hearing his words, she snorted, "So what if we’re exposed? Isn’t Your Highness not afraid of me exposing you?"
Damien Gray didn’t answer her question. Instead, he asked, "Mo'er, do you keep a lot of ghosts?"
Morgan Shangguan’s eyes flashed with caution. "Why are you asking?" She couldn’t be blamed for her wariness—Damien Gray was simply too cunning, and one careless moment could get her caught in his schemes.
Damien Gray’s expression suddenly darkened, clearly reminded of something that angered him. He demanded overbearingly, "From now on, you’re only allowed to keep female ghosts!"
Morgan Shangguan frowned, finding him unreasonable. They were her ghosts—what right did he have to dictate their gender?
Seeing Morgan Shangguan refuse to nod, Damien Gray’s face grew even darker. The atmosphere grew tense, so much so that even Susie Yun outside could feel the chill.
After a long while, Damien Gray’s expression finally eased. Realizing he couldn’t push her too far, he backed down a little, "Then from now on, you can’t get too close to those ghosts. Especially when you’re bathing, don’t let them come out!" In his heart, though, he was already plotting to settle this score once she fell in love with him.
Morgan Shangguan was taken aback, recalling how he’d left in a huff before. She seemed to understand now, and blurted out before she could think, "That ghost can’t see." It was a Blind Ghost—she wasn’t an exhibitionist, after all. If not for that, how could she allow it to be present while she bathed?
Only after speaking did she realize how much it sounded like she was explaining herself to him.
Suddenly, Damien Gray felt his irritation melt away. Before Morgan Shangguan could react, he lowered his head and kissed her lips. Morgan was caught off guard, her eyes flashing with fire—how did he always manage to get his way?
She didn’t realize that, subconsciously, her guard against Damien Gray was weakening more and more.
Blue Lake Tavern was still bustling. With the Ghostmaster gone, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves even more. They all assumed the Ghostmaster was simply resting upstairs, unaware he had already left. But even if they knew, they wouldn’t be surprised—the Ghostmaster was always coming and going like a phantom!
"Jade Greenfield, where’s the Ghostmaster?" Violet Snow’s cheeks were flushed, her eyes shining with happiness—one would never guess she was still nursing internal injuries.
Jade Greenfield was still thinking about Damien Gray’s words. Honestly, it wasn’t a bad arrangement for them. Dealing with the Cloud Guild was risky—they hadn’t figured out its true strength yet. This gathering was a last resort, so perhaps things were for the best.
Hearing Violet Snow’s question, Jade Greenfield frowned, "The Ghostmaster has already left!" He really didn’t approve of Violet’s infatuation. The Ghostmaster didn’t care for her, and if she made a mistake and angered him, it could spell disaster for Rakshasa Palace!
"What?" Violet Snow exclaimed, frowning. "The Ghostmaster left without saying goodbye!" There was a hint of complaint in her voice.
Jade Greenfield’s frown deepened as he warned, "Violet, don’t forget your place. If you annoy the Ghostmaster, you won’t be the only one to suffer!"
Violet Snow’s face turned cold. "Don’t worry, I won’t drag you down. And who says the Ghostmaster is tired of me? I already belong to him! If he disliked me, why would he want me at all?"
Thinking of those tender, passionate moments, Violet Snow couldn’t help but blush. The Ghostmaster had even carefully sent her back to her room—was he worried someone might gossip about her? She didn’t mind at all, because that person was him!
She had no idea she was just being self-indulgent—those passionate scenes were only her imagination. The so-called careful escort was really Jing Moke knocking her out and carrying her back to her room, because that was his room!
Maybe she was just too happy to notice those details. But even if she did, she’d surely find a way to rationalize them!
But Morgan Shangguan had noticed those details. So when she returned to her room and Damien Gray followed right after, she wasn’t surprised. Before, Morgan might have thought he was trying to seduce her, but seeing him now, she knew—even if it was a seduction, he wouldn’t do it himself!
