Unrequited Affection

12/2/2025

Looking at Violet Snow's blissful expression, a glint flashed in Jade Greenfield's eyes. This was actually a good thing. The Ghostmaster had always been extremely mysterious—meeting him was harder than ascending to heaven. The fact that the Ghostmaster would accept the invitation this time was beyond his expectations. If the Ghostmaster truly took a liking to Violet Snow, it would be no harm to Rakshasa Palace.

At the same time, in the room upstairs belonging to Liam Duanmu, Noah Duanmu asked, "Big brother, what is it exactly?"

At this moment, Liam Duanmu was holding a secret letter—personally written by the owner of the world's greatest manor, Liam Duanmu, who was also their father.

Liam Duanmu did not answer Noah Duanmu's question, but instead brought the letter to the fire and burned it to ashes. He said, "Tomorrow morning, we'll head back!" After speaking, he gazed at the moonlight outside the window and suddenly sighed, as if helpless, as if worried.

Just as dawn broke, Prince Damien, the Ghost King, whose health had improved, arrived at Qingyin Temple to bring his Princess Consort home.

At the entrance of Qingyin Temple, Damien Gray spoke gently, "Thank you, Abbot, for seeing us off!"

The abbot pressed his palms together and said, "Amitabha, how wonderful! The Princess Consort came personally to pray for the Prince—such a thoughtful person. The Prince will surely be blessed with longevity and fortune!"

Damien Gray glanced at Morgan Shangguan, pulled her into his embrace, and smiled tenderly. Morgan Shangguan also looked at him with gentle eyes, then lowered her head shyly, appearing both blissful and bashful.

This loving scene made the Crown Princess and Lady Julia, standing not far away, feel a pang of jealousy. Though both women held noble status and their husbands were outstanding men—one a crown prince, the other a royal prince—their households were full of concubines, and how much time did their husbands truly spend with them? How much affection did they really receive?

But that seemingly blissful scene was, in fact, hiding Morgan Shangguan's anger. Not only had she been tricked into coming back, but along the way, Damien Gray had taken plenty of liberties. Now, with so many eyes watching, he was even more brazen, openly flirting with her. Fortunately, this was a temple, so Damien Gray wouldn’t go too far. Still, Morgan Shangguan was holding back her frustration. To vent, she used her wide sleeves to shield her movements, and, out of sight of the crowd, reached for Damien Gray’s waist and gave it a gentle squeeze. Feeling Damien Gray stiffen, she finally felt a bit satisfied—though she didn’t realize how much her actions resembled playful flirting, something she would never have done before!

Inside the carriage, Damien Gray and Morgan Shangguan sat side by side. Ever since Susie Yun noticed the ambiguous feelings between them, she would consciously avoid disturbing them. In her opinion, the Ghost King and Miss Morgan were a good match. If Miss Morgan could find someone who truly cherished her, Susie would naturally be happy.

"Mo'er, it hurts! Will you help me rub it?"

Morgan Shangguan leaned against the carriage wall, lifted the curtain, and gazed indifferently outside, completely ignoring the teasing voice beside her.

"Mo'er..." Damien Gray suddenly leaned in with a smile.

After being teased so many times, Morgan Shangguan had become alert and immediately tried to push him away.

But Damien Gray was quicker—he grabbed her hand first and whispered, "Someone's watching."

Morgan Shangguan glanced out the window and saw, in the carriage traveling alongside, Lady Julia watching them intently. Morgan looked at Damien Gray, who smiled gently, but in her eyes, there was a hint of danger. She warned in a low voice, "Damien Gray, don't go too far!"

Damien Gray smiled and nodded, then pulled her into his arms, but did not cross the line.

Looking at Morgan Shangguan obediently nestled in his arms, Damien Gray's eyes glimmered with amusement. Sometimes, retreating at the right moment could help you gain more—like now. Because of his behavior along the way, Morgan Shangguan's guard against him was unconsciously lowered, which meant he could take a few more steps forward.

"Mo'er..."

Morgan Shangguan furrowed her brows and slowly opened her eyes, only to see Damien Gray's face close to hers. She looked a bit confused. Damien Gray smiled gently and said, "We're here."

Morgan Shangguan seemed not to have recovered, staring blankly at him. Then her expression gradually darkened. Because Damien Gray had been close to her throughout the journey, she had actually begun to get used to his presence. Now, simply because he hadn't gone too far, she had relaxed enough to fall asleep in his arms!

Morgan Shangguan was not foolish; she naturally understood that this sly fox, Damien Gray, had already figured out her mindset—knowing exactly when to advance and when to retreat. And she had carelessly let him succeed!

A flash of cunning passed through Damien Gray's eyes, though he felt a bit regretful—he'd been found out! Pretending not to notice Morgan Shangguan's unhappy expression, he gently helped tidy her slightly disheveled clothes, then got out of the carriage and offered her his hand, just as he had when she first entered the prince's manor, still as warm and graceful as ever.

This time, however, Damien Gray directly carried her down from the carriage. Morgan Shangguan didn’t resist, partly because someone was watching from the shadows, and partly because she was seriously pondering some things.

"Senior brother..."

Hearing that Damien Gray had returned, Claire Yi happily ran out, only to witness Damien Gray carrying Morgan Shangguan out of the carriage—and even after setting her down, he didn’t let go.

Claire Yi could hardly believe it. How could senior brother come back with Morgan Shangguan? And they seemed even closer than before. Did senior brother really go looking for Morgan Shangguan instead of recuperating?

Claire Yi’s face gradually turned pale. Her gaze toward Morgan Shangguan was tinged with resentment, as if blaming her for deception. Morgan had clearly promised not to compete for senior brother!

Morgan Shangguan glanced at her indifferently, then ignored her and continued pondering her own thoughts.

Seeing her indifferent demeanor, Damien Gray could only smile wryly and sigh inwardly. Well, he couldn’t be too impatient!

"Senior brother..."

Noticing that Damien Gray’s gaze was fixed on Morgan Shangguan, Claire Yi suddenly felt aggrieved, her eyes welling up with tears. She liked him so much—why couldn’t he like her, even just a little?

She had liked senior brother since childhood. What was Morgan Shangguan compared to her? Why should she have to compete?

The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt. Tears streamed down her face like pearls on a broken string, impossible to stop.
