Unexpected Number

2/14/2026

In everyone's eyes, the dice cup in front of Evan Lin revealed a single pip!

All six dice inside the cup were stacked together, forming a tall column, and the top die showed a single pip!

“Amazing! This technique is truly unexpected. I’ve played dice for years, and I’ve never seen anyone shake out six dice to show just one point. That’s god-level skill!” exclaimed a seasoned boss nearby, full of admiration.

“Is this kid trained by some legendary gambling master? By standard rules, the banker rolling six points is an automatic win, but he found another way and turned defeat into victory. Genius!” another man marveled, his eyes on Evan Lin filled with wonder.

Everyone who saw the result was shaken to their core.

Selina Shi’s pretty face, for once, showed a genuine smile.

Gavin Guan’s crew exchanged glances, none of them daring to speak for a long moment.

The skinny guy who’d been shouting for Evan Lin to hurry up and lift the cup—and who’d promised to streak if anyone rolled lower than six ones—was now pale as a ghost, swaying on his feet, completely panicked.

“This round, I win. Time for you to strip,” Evan Lin said calmly to Gavin Guan. “Since we’re betting clothes, shoes don’t count. You should be taking off your pants now.”

As soon as Evan Lin finished speaking, Gavin Guan’s face turned pitch black.

Ever since seeing Evan Lin’s point total, Gavin hadn’t uttered a single word.

Of course, there’s no way he could strip his pants off in public—he’s Young Master Gavin from Oceanport!

But the rule of ‘a bet’s a bet’ couldn’t be broken, and with Selina Shi right there, he didn’t dare go back on his word.

“Shoes don’t count, obviously! But if you want me to take off my pants, you’d better have the guts for it!”

Gavin Guan gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, and stood up from his seat.

“Young Master Gavin…”

The other rich kids nearby saw Gavin stand up and hesitated, wanting to speak but holding back.

Whether Gavin Guan goes through with it or not, his reputation is shot.

“Fine, shoes don’t count, of course. But remember this—this is the last time you’ll ever beat me!”

Gavin Guan let out a cold laugh.

Some of the girls had already turned away, afraid of seeing something they shouldn’t.

Most of the crowd watched Gavin Guan, their eyes filled with curiosity.

Evan Lin sat there, watching Gavin Guan with amused interest.

Soon everyone saw Gavin Guan yank off his shoes, then pull off two pairs of socks.

He pinched his stinky socks between two fingers, waved them in Evan Lin’s direction, and flashed a smug grin: “We said clothing, and socks count as clothing too. You can’t argue with that, right?”

Selina Shi was momentarily stunned.

A few people who’d leaned closer out of curiosity were instantly hit by a wave of stench, making some of the bosses frown and others nearly gag.

Gavin Guan’s feet sweat easily—he’s got athlete’s foot, and when those socks and shoes came off, the stink knocked out half the room.

A subtle wave of spiritual energy rose in front of Evan Lin, blocking out the stench completely. He heard Gavin’s claim but just nodded: “Yeah, socks count as clothing.”

As soon as Evan Lin said that—

Gavin Guan broke into a grin, proud of his quick thinking.

The Oceanport rich kids around him acted like they’d just witnessed something amazing, holding their noses and still praising him: “Young Master Gavin’s got brains!”

“Ha, who knew Young Master Gavin was this clever!”

“Not bad, not bad—Young Master Gavin’s move deserves full marks!”

They all joined in, laughing and acting like they’d won.

“You guys really do have a talent for sucking up and praising stinky feet,” Evan Lin said with a playful tone.

His words made several people crack a smile.

But Gavin Guan’s crew didn’t look nearly as pleased.

“Let’s keep playing!”

Gavin Guan’s face fell. He tossed the stinky socks aside, sat back down barefoot, his expression icy.

Two losses in a row.

He lost the first round by underestimating his opponent, the second by lack of experience and getting outplayed.

But let’s see how you plan to beat me next!

Gavin Guan gritted his teeth, his glare fierce as he replayed his mistakes from the last two rounds.

If we go for the highest score, since I’m the dealer, rolling six sixes means I can’t lose!

If we go for the lowest, I’d have to stack all six dice and roll a one on top—practically impossible.

All things considered, going for the highest score seems safer to Gavin.

The second method? Gavin didn’t trust himself to stack all the dice or roll a one.

That level of difficulty is insane.

With that thought, Gavin made his decision, fixing his gaze on Evan Lin and saying coldly, “Next round—let’s see who gets the highest score. Six dice again! I’m the dealer. If we tie, I win!”
