You Have to Follow the Rules

"Master Lin, I've already chosen five people. I still need your guidance. May I ask when you'll have time?"

On the other end of the phone, Eldest Brother Su was polite and respectful.

When he called Evan 'Master Lin,' his tone was especially awkward and uneasy.

After all, he's a high-ranking officer, yet he's showing such reverence to a teenager not even twenty. Even if he feels it's justified, saying it out loud still makes things a bit awkward.

"You pick the place. Anytime works for me."

Evan thought for a moment before replying.

"How about my battalion? There's an indoor training hall there, and it's pretty well-equipped."

Eldest Brother Su asked carefully.

Ever since the Su family’s birthday banquet, their reputation in Capitalview’s upper circles has been unmatched.

But Eldest Brother Su knew that the Su family’s current strength was all thanks to the teenager on the other end of the line.

Unless his men could win enough honors and join the ranks of the generals, only then would the Su family's position in Jinnan be truly secure.

"Alright."

Hearing Evan agree, Eldest Brother Su finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He immediately sent someone to drive to Capitalview First High School.

Evan hung up the phone just as the class bell rang.

It was the second period of the morning—math class.

As soon as the bell finished, Henry Wang walked in through the front door, holding a stack of test papers.

He's the senior math teacher for the senior year group and also the homeroom teacher for Class 2. Ever since Evan made him lose face last time, he hadn't shown up at Class 12 for a long while.

As soon as he entered, Henry Wang scanned the room, coughed, and said, "Your teacher Mr. Yang has something to do today, so I'll be supervising your math class with a test paper."

"You'll have back-to-back exams during the second and third periods."

Henry Wang stressed this point.

Groans rose from the students below. As Henry Wang was about to hand out the test papers, he noticed Evan standing up at the back and immediately frowned.

"You there, it's class time right now, and I just said there will be back-to-back exams for the next two periods. Where are you going?"

Henry Wang looked at Evan, full of dissatisfaction.

Competition among teachers and classes at Capitalview First High School is fierce.

Henry Wang’s Experimental Class 2 only had average results among the three experimental classes, but at the last teacher-student meeting, Evan made him lose face, and he’s never forgotten it.

Afterward, Evan kept causing trouble one after another. Henry Wang was annoyed, but could only hold it in.

A few days ago, Eric Yu transferred into his Class 2. That should have been a big win for Henry Wang’s reputation, but then he heard that Evan kept clashing with Eric Yu, which made Henry Wang dislike Evan even more.

At Henry Wang’s words, every student in the classroom looked over at Evan, who was getting up from his seat. Many wore expressions of schadenfreude.

"I'm heading out. Got something to do."

Evan glanced at the podium, his tone calm.

"Heading out? It's class time! You're a student, so you should be sitting at your desk, writing your test paper honestly!"

Henry Wang slammed the stack of test papers onto the podium, his voice full of anger.

"You skipped the last monthly exam, and I heard you didn’t even pass the recent science quiz in your class, right? Do you really think just because you won first prize in the Haizhou Math Olympiad, you can let it go to your head?"

Henry Wang’s voice was loud and stern: "Or do you think that just because the police department gave you a commendation banner, you can do whatever you want?"

"Last time the national soccer team came to play, you even managed to beat one of their players! You really are something! In all my years of teaching, I've never seen a student like you!"

The more Henry Wang spoke, the louder his voice became.

He had once thought Evan was a genius, the kind that top schools like Beijing University and Clearwater University would fight over. So even though he’d been unhappy about things before, he’d kept it all bottled up.

But now, Henry Wang figured this kid was just a little better than average at math—his other subjects were much worse. For the college entrance exam, he’d probably only get into a regular university, so Henry Wang’s worries faded.

Many students below were shocked by Henry Wang’s words and turned to look at Evan, who was standing there.

In their eyes there was a hint of concern, but more of it was envy and satisfaction at Evan’s predicament.

Girls like Wendy Wen and Lynn Chen, who were considered goddesses by the boys, all seemed to have some history with Evan. On the soccer field, Evan had also stolen the spotlight, which made a lot of the boys burn with jealousy.

Henry Wang’s gaze was fierce as he stared at Evan.

The classroom atmosphere suddenly grew tense.

"Now, get back to your seat! You must finish this test paper!" Henry Wang gave Evan his final ultimatum.

Everyone waited to see what Evan would do.

"What if I say no?"

Evan looked at Henry Wang, speaking calmly, his gaze unyielding.

"You say no? What right do you have to say no! You’re a student, I’m the teacher! You should listen to me! And it’s class time—class time is not the time for you to say no! Do you realize you’re holding up the whole class?" Henry Wang slammed his hand on the desk, feeling his authority challenged.

"I’m a student, but I only do what I want to do."

Evan shook his head. "Sure, you're a teacher, but you're not my teacher. You don't get to boss me around just because of your title."

"And don't get too full of yourself. If anyone's wasting time here, it's you. Whether I take the exam or not is my call."

With just a few lines, Evan had Henry Wang's face flipping from green to white, shaking with rage.

Seeing Henry Wang's face turn the color of pig liver, Evan couldn't even be bothered to look at him anymore. He just walked straight out of the classroom.

"Stop right there! You really have the guts to walk out!"

Watching this scene, Henry Wang's reputation was in shambles—he'd completely lost face.

He'd tried to put Evan in his place, but instead, Evan had flipped the script and humiliated him.

Evan strode out of the classroom.

Henry Wang ignored the test papers on the podium, storming after Evan and blocking his path.

"Move." Evan shot Henry Wang a cold look and spoke flatly.

"Go back! Who do you think you are? This is school! You have to follow the rules!" Henry Wang’s face was flushed red with anger.

"The rule is: you do your exam, I handle my business. We don't interfere with each other." Evan looked Henry Wang up and down, totally serious and cold.
