The Truth

The servers hired just for tonight quickly hurried over at Haiyang Sheng's command, dragging out the three men lying on the floor.

Meanwhile, Ryan Ping—who’d just been kicked over by Evan Lin—got up, shot Evan a vicious glare, and left with Neil Ping.

Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer clutched his broken finger, glaring at Evan Lin through his pain. "Kid! You dared to set me up!"

Just now, when Doctor Wu jabbed his finger at Evan Lin, he instantly felt a surge of force shoot out from Evan’s body.

Even though Evan Lin was only at Qi Refining stage one, he was far stronger than Doctor Wu, who, for all his fame, was just a frail old TCM doctor.

Evan controlled the qi in his body and sent it straight into Doctor Wu’s finger, snapping it instantly.

"You were the one who attacked me. But who’d have thought your old bones were so brittle—snapped just like that. I didn’t even do anything; everyone saw it." Evan stared at Doctor Wu, speaking clearly and slowly. Doctor Wu could only huff and glare, totally helpless.

Haiyang Sheng’s face was clouded and uncertain, while Charles Chen could only curse his luck in silence.

Evan might’ve taught Ryan Ping and his crew a lesson, but he’d also managed to completely wreck the banquet.

Charles Chen’s position at the company was already shaky—now, after tonight, how would Haiyang Sheng see him?

Are they going to think I deliberately brought Evan Lin here just to stir up trouble?

If that's really the case, Charles Chen feels he won't be able to stay at the company any longer.

Haiyang Sheng took a deep breath, then turned to Charles Chen. "Before I change my mind, Charles, take your family and go home."

I'm tired. I won't keep you any longer tonight.

Haiyang Sheng's tone was icy. Charles Chen wanted to say more, but when he saw Haiyang's cold face, he just shook his head. "Manager Sheng, sorry for tonight. We'll take our leave."

Then Charles Chen shot Evan a glare. "Aren't you leaving yet?"

"Let's go, Evan." Lucy Lu walked up, took Evan's arm—afraid he'd dig his heels in and escalate things further—and dragged him out by force.

Lynn Chen followed right behind Lucy Lu, heading out of the room as well.

Once Charles Chen and his family had left, Haiyang Sheng let out a heavy sigh and glanced at Dean Victor Lu and the others. "Sorry, Dean, doctors—I made a mess of things tonight."

"No need for that, Manager Sheng," Dean Victor Lu replied, shaking his head. "You're being too polite."

Lucy Lu, sitting off to the side, saw Evan leaving and instinctively wanted to chase after him—at the very least, she needed his contact info.

Once that kid's gone, who knows when they'll meet again.

Ever since Evan's prescription saved Haiyang Sheng, Lucy Lu had started to take an interest in him.

Yvonne Yun noticed Lucy Lu's anxious look and asked quietly, "What's wrong, Lucy?"

"He left."

"He? Don't tell me you've got your eye on that kid?" Yvonne Yun frowned, surprised as she looked at Lucy Lu.

Lucy Lu was Dean Victor Lu's granddaughter and had only recently started at the hospital. The male doctors were always trying to chat her up, but she'd never shown real interest in anyone before.

Seeing Lucy Lu like this, Yvonne Yun remembered how she'd rushed to speak to Evan earlier, and couldn't help but warn her: "Lucy, it's not really my place to comment on your personal life, but just now—look, that kid's still young, obviously just a student, and his personality is a bit too aggressive. He's not right for you."

"Oh come on, Dr. Yun, what are you talking about?" Lucy Lu blushed. "That prescription—he's the one who gave it to me."

Lucy Lu hurried to clarify, afraid Yvonne Yun might get the wrong idea. Hearing this, Yvonne's expression shifted.

"You mean the second prescription?"

"Yeah."

Seeing Lucy Lu nod, Yvonne Yun's heart skipped a beat. She glanced toward the door, but the car had already driven away—there was no catching up now.

If it weren't for the second prescription, relying only on Doctor Wu's first formula, Haiyang Sheng would still be stuck in bed—if he wasn't dead already.

"Manager Sheng, Ping Nianhua asked me to treat you, I cured you, and now I come here for dinner and get set up! Are you going to do something about this or not?"

Doctor Wu clutched his finger, gritted his teeth, and with a sudden jerk reset the broken bone—his old teeth chattered from the pain.

"Doctor Wu, I'm sorry! I was out of line. Don't worry, I'll make sure you get an explanation." Haiyang Sheng was still grateful to Doctor Wu—in his mind, if not for Wu, he'd be bedridden for life.

That was absolutely not a fate Haiyang Sheng could accept.

"Hmph! It better be. I've been curing people for decades, attended countless banquets, but I've never felt so humiliated as tonight!"

"You'd better make it right! That kid and—what's his name—Charles Chen, they both need to apologize to me in person!" Doctor Wu raged, all pretense of medical dignity gone; he was one step away from cursing out loud.

Haiyang Sheng kept smiling apologetically. He was annoyed by Doctor Wu's theatrics, but his real grudge was with Charles Chen.

"Charles Chen is just impossible. When I was sick, he was useless, and now that I'm better he brings trouble to my door. After all I've done to help him!"

The more Haiyang Sheng thought about it, the more dissatisfied he became with Charles Chen.

"Doctor Wu, it seems Manager Sheng's recovery wasn't entirely your doing, was it?"

Lucy Lu, who'd been watching silently, finally couldn't take it anymore and spoke up, frowning.

Doctor Wu froze, then whipped his head around and glared at Lucy Lu, scaring her a bit. "What do you know, little girl? Without my medicine, would he have recovered so fast?"

"Your hospital couldn't cure him, and I did. I saved your hospital's reputation! Instead of thanking me, now you want to turn on me? The world really is going downhill."

"No skill, no ethics—your hospital's hopeless!" Doctor Wu shouted, raising his voice.

Dean Victor Lu's face darkened. After decades at the hospital, he was deeply attached to it, and hearing Doctor Wu's words made his expression sour instantly. "Doctor Wu, you'd better have evidence before you say things like that!"

"Evidence? With the kind of skills your hospital doctors have, what evidence do you need?" Doctor Wu sneered.

Haiyang Sheng couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.

"You cured him? Your medicine nearly killed Manager Sheng! And you still have the nerve to brag? Dr. Yun can vouch for that!" Lucy Lu shot back, defending her grandfather without hesitation.

"Yes, Doctor Wu, your prescription really did have problems." Yvonne Yun nodded, then turned to Haiyang Sheng. "Manager Sheng, do you remember you took two different medicines?"

"After the first dose, your whole body flushed red. Only after the second dose did the symptoms disappear."

"The first prescription was from Doctor Wu."

Yvonne Yun spoke each word clearly. Doctor Wu's face changed instantly. "Slander! You're all in this together!"

Haiyang Sheng frowned deeply. He hadn't been able to move at the time, but he'd stayed conscious. He definitely remembered taking two medicines, and after the first dose, the pain was so intense he almost died.

Ignoring Doctor Wu, Haiyang Sheng turned to Yvonne Yun and asked seriously, "Dr. Yun, can you explain in detail what happened?"

Doctor Wu realized things were going south and tried to slip away, but Haiyang Sheng suddenly placed a hand on his shoulder, speaking calmly: "Doctor Wu, don't rush off—the meal's not over yet."

After speaking, Haiyang Sheng looked at Yvonne Yun again.

"Better let Lucy tell it." Yvonne Yun handed the floor to Lucy Lu.

So Lucy Lu recounted everything that had happened that day, leaving nothing out.

"Was the second prescription written by Dr. Yun?" Susan Pang asked, puzzled.

Lucy Lu shook her head. "It was written by the guy you all just forced to drink."

"I think his name is Evan Lin."

Lucy Lu wasn't sure, but as she spoke, Haiyang Sheng and Susan Pang exchanged a glance. Doctor Wu's face was already turning ashen.

"Looks like I need to have a good talk with Charles."

Susan Pang took a deep breath; Haiyang Sheng nodded.
