Wants to Take You as His Wife

Lily Bai said, "Lady Dragon Lord told me, but there's always someone better out there. My talent is decent, but honestly, it's not that strong."

"You're very humble!" The Celestial Empress smiled. "But maybe they're just afraid to scare you, so they didn't tell you the whole truth."

"Huh?" Lily looked at Lady Dragon Lord.

Lady Dragon Lord just smiled.

"The reason I asked you here is this: My youngest son, Henry Xiao, says he wants to marry you." The Celestial Empress said slowly.

It took Lily a moment to process this. "What? How is that even possible?"

Suddenly she remembered, back at the Sigil Sect, Henry Xiao had hinted he was waiting for her in Drake Abyss...

Her aunt had made sure she attended the birthday banquet, insisted they stay, and even dressed her up like this...

"Given your cultivation and background, taking you as a side consort would be acceptable," the Empress added. "But my son insists on marrying you as his main wife—and even threatened that if I refuse, he'll never marry at all."

Lily clutched the edge of her robe tightly.

There are so many stories like this: the rich, powerful young lord falls for the poor girl.

Usually, the lord's parents are totally against it. They hate the poor girl and do everything they can to break them up.

Lily never thought she'd one day become that poor girl herself.

The Celestial Empress must hate her right now, right?

She must think Lily seduced her son.

No wonder, when the Empress cupped her face earlier, Lily felt like those cold nail guards could pierce her throat at any second.

Lily bowed her head and said, "Your Majesty, honestly, I've only met the Fourth Prince two or three times. I swear I never meant to aim so high! I'll make sure to explain everything to him myself!"

The Empress looked at her, then suddenly smiled and said, "You've got it all wrong! Mothers always dote on their youngest sons a little more. He rarely likes any girl, but since he's chosen you, I'm happy to grant his wish."

Lily needed a moment to catch up. "Huh?"

"It's just... I have four sons, and this youngest is the only one still unmarried. Lots of families have come with proposals, but I've never given a clear answer." The Empress looked a bit troubled. "If I turn them all down and marry you to him, well... people will talk. Don't you think?"

"Um..." Lily's mind was a mess.

"I heard from Leo Li that your Sigil Sect is planning to break the Wildlands Tribulation Thunder Array?"

Lily said, "Yes."

"Alright! Let's wait until you break the array!" said the Empress. "If you succeed, it'll be a world-shaking achievement! Then I'll grant my son the Sigil Sect Young Master as a reward—and I'll have my justification. What do you think?"

Lily thought this was a terrible idea.

It was basically trading those demon-beasts' lives for her own glory.

She really didn't like this kind of deal.

But then she remembered the divination her master did for the White Clan.

Drake Abyss, marriage alliance—it could break the White Clan's misfortune.

If she agreed, would that dark cloud finally disperse?

After all, if she married the Fourth Prince, probably no one would ever dare touch her family again...

But... her heart just couldn't accept it.

Even though they're really going to break the array next month.

Even though they might actually succeed.

Even though she didn't dislike the Fourth Prince.

She just couldn't accept it in her heart...

"The poor girl is totally stunned," Lady Dragon Lord laughed from the side when Lily stayed silent. "Little Fish, Her Majesty asked you a question! Say something!"
