Private Lounge 8

Lily Bai hung up the phone and walked out of the conference hall.

"Lily!" Colin Grant hurried after her.

Lily turned back to look at him, her eyes slightly cold.

"Lily, what happened today? Why did you end up hosting instead of Secretary Grant?" Colin looked genuinely puzzled.

"You really don't know?" Lily asked.

"Of course I don't! If I did, why would I be asking you?"

"Secretary Grant got sick and couldn't host, so he begged me to help him out."

"He got sick? What kind of sickness? Was it serious?"

"He's fine now," Lily said.

"Good thing you stepped in! Otherwise, a national live broadcast with no host would have been a disaster! He really owes you a big thank you."

Lily smiled, "If he's going to thank someone, you should be first in line! If you hadn't given me that invitation, I wouldn't have even been there to help."

Colin laughed calmly, "Now that you mention it, that's true! We'll have to make him treat us both to dinner next time!"

Lily gave a faint smile, then turned and walked away.

White Entertainment originally wasn't qualified to attend this kind of conference.

But Colin Grant took the initiative and gave her an invitation.

To say he was clueless about the whole setup—Lily really couldn't believe it.

If he did know, then his acting skills... Honestly, if he doesn't become a politician, it's a waste of talent.

......

Back home, Lily immediately sensed something was off.

When she asked what happened, everyone turned to look at Evan Lan.

Then Lily noticed that one of the previously lush branches on the potted plant had withered!

Her expression changed drastically. "What happened? It was fine when I left this morning—how did a branch suddenly wither?"

Her first thought was—did someone pour herbicide into the pot?

Like Witherbane or something.

Max Mo repeated his explanation about how Evan had to burn part of his spirit remnant to extend it.

Then Lily suddenly remembered—why did President Xiao show up so suddenly?

She immediately called Xavier Xiao and asked why he appeared in the Head-of-State Reception Lounge.

The President told her he suddenly saw Evan Lan, and Evan told him directly.

Lily instantly understood what had happened.

Turns out, she wasn't the one who solved today's crisis.

It was Evan Lan.

If he hadn't brought the Supreme Emperor, even if someone heard her banging on the door, the right people would have sabotaged things so no one would have opened it before the broadcast started...

"Dad," Lily called. "Did you find out anything?"

"We did," the President replied. "It was Victor Fane."

"Victor Fane?" Lily was surprised.

She'd thought it was Shaun Fane.

"His parents are at the Supreme Emperor's Estate right now," Xavier Xiao said. "I reprimanded them, and they promised... it won't happen again."

Lily paused, then said, "I understand, Dad. Thank you."

After hanging up, everyone immediately asked what had happened.

Why did Evan Lan destroy one of his own branches?

Lily explained everything that happened today.

"Victor Fane's just a scapegoat!" Max Mo concluded immediately.

"Exactly!" Uncle Ernie chimed in. "Victor Fane's already ruined—no matter what he did, nobody can do anything to him now."

Lily: "Right. Fane Senior will go cry to the Supreme Emperor, saying I ruined his son and he's so heartbroken, blah blah blah... This'll probably blow over soon enough."

"They've already planned their escape route," Max Mo said, his face dark with murderous intent. "But the Gatekeeper's branch can't be broken for nothing! I'm going—"

"Where are you going?" Lily grabbed his arm.

"At the very least, I should break his arm!"
