With Elder Cole's unwilling announcement, Evan Yang won the first round, and everyone realized more deeply that this Fiend Realm recruit was no ordinary person.
Evan Yang was dazzling, while Logan Cole lost to him twice—once yesterday, once today. Originally, Logan wanted to embarrass Evan Yang and take revenge, but ended up falling for his own trick.
“Damn it, what on earth happened?” Elder Cole asked Logan Cole in their room.
Logan Cole was very frustrated. “I don’t know. That powder clearly landed on him, but somehow it blew back onto me.”
“You didn’t even get it right? You just messed yourself up and embarrassed yourself.” Elder Cole said angrily.
“Big brother, you have to help me get revenge tomorrow!” Logan Cole said angrily.
“Tomorrow, at least it’s still him refining pills. This time I’ll make sure he knows alchemy isn’t a game!” Elder Cole snorted coldly.
Evan Yang was holding a victory herb, which Elder Shaw had given him. He packed it away, planning to deal with it later when he had spare time.
“Kid, didn’t expect you could do this too.” Faye Gale laughed.
“It’s all thanks to Elder Shaw’s help. I spent half a year working hard to memorize it,” Evan Yang said modestly.
“That’s true. But tomorrow, I wonder how you’ll handle things,” Faye Gale said with a click of her tongue. Elder Shaw understood what she meant and looked at Evan Yang strangely. “Are you sure you want to participate?”
“Yes.” Evan Yang was fighting for the herb, but now hearing that Elder Cole would be his opponent, he naturally hoped to crush him.
“Then prepare well. Here are some materials about alchemy. Even if you don’t know how, you can just follow today’s method and improvise. Don’t embarrass yourself too much.” Elder Shaw replied.
Evan Yang nodded and took the materials. Faye Gale watched the two talk, feeling like Evan Yang was just going through the motions, as if he were just putting his name on the list.
After Elder Shaw left, Faye Gale asked, “Hey, do you really not know how to refine pills?”
“How should I put it? You could say I can, or you could say I can’t.” Evan Yang smiled.
“What do you mean?” Faye Gale asked, puzzled.
“You’ll know tomorrow.” Evan Yang smiled.
“So mysterious.” Faye Gale glared.
“Alright, let’s not talk about this. What about you—are you really not planning to leave?” Evan Yang asked.
“Mm, don't worry, I have ways to protect myself. No matter how strong the opponent is, I can escape.” Faye Gale laughed.
Just as Faye Gale finished laughing, a powerful aura pressed straight toward her.
Faye Gale's expression changed dramatically. “What’s wrong?” Evan Yang asked suspiciously.
“He’s back again.” Faye Gale exclaimed, then flashed forward. This time it was a provocative aura from the opponent, so Faye Gale signaled Evan Yang to follow.
“Are you crazy? You really want to go out?” Seeing Faye Gale fly out of the Sacred Mountain, Evan Yang was shocked and hurriedly followed.
The two of them flew through the air.
“I don’t want to keep being targeted like this. If he wants to kill me, I won’t let him get away so easily.” Faye Gale sent through sound transmission.
“You mean you want to kill him?” Evan Yang hadn’t expected Faye Gale planned to deal with the black-clad man.
“Yes, that's right. The fight might get intense soon. If—just if—I die, remember to take my body away,” Faye Gale said.
“Take it away?” Evan Yang gave her a strange look.
“Just bring me to Elder Shaw and you'll understand,” Faye Gale replied.
“Forget it, I won’t ask. You’re not going to die anyway.” Evan Yang glared.
“You never know. The opponent is very strong,” Faye Gale said.
Evan Yang didn’t feel threatened, since the aura wasn’t directed at him. Soon he saw the black-clad man standing by a lakeshore.
His face was covered, so it couldn’t be seen. The man smiled, “You really came.”
“You want to kill me, but I won’t let you keep provoking me like this,” Faye Gale said.
Evan Yang stood to the side, watching the black-clad man. The man listened to Faye Gale, then looked at Evan and smiled, “You brought someone to die with you?”
“He has nothing to do with this,” Faye Gale said, then told Evan Yang, “Go stand aside.”
“You think after I kill you, I’ll let him live?” The man sneered.
“Let’s see if you’re qualified to kill me first.” Faye Gale laughed.
“You injured me yesterday, and I just barely recovered. If I don’t kill you today, how will I report back and collect my payment? Watch closely.” The man clicked his tongue and laughed.
Evan Yang followed Faye Gale’s instructions and stood by the shore. He knew their fight didn’t need him. His guess was right—once the battle started, his divine sense couldn’t keep up. Sometimes he saw them shift positions by the lake, and in just one breath they’d appear on the other side.
“Is this Flash Step combat?” Evan Yang exclaimed, realizing they were instantly appearing at new spots to fight.
Fortunately, Evan Yang’s divine sense had multiple threads, so he locked down all nearby areas. Whenever they appeared, he could quickly spot their location.
The battle was fierce. Sometimes he saw water below surge up and turn into swords in their hands for attacking.
They even used water as shields.
But Faye Gale seemed a bit unfamiliar. “The Fiend Realm rarely has lakes like this, so it’s not easy to use,” Evan Yang muttered.
The black-clad man, however, handled it effortlessly.
About a quarter hour later, their fight got even more intense, and they started using artifacts.
All he saw were flashes from artifacts clashing.
This can’t go on. Evan Yang noticed Faye Gale’s spiritual power was draining quickly, while her opponent’s was much slower.
“Damn, how can this be?” Faye Gale cursed inwardly. She’d never burned through spiritual power so fast, until she realized the difference between Fiend Realm and Human World spiritual energy. Used to Fiend Realm energy, she found killers from the Human World had a clear advantage.
“Kid, I might really be in trouble. Looks like you’ll need to collect my corpse.” Faye Gale sent to Evan Yang.
“You’ll be fine. Just be careful.” Evan Yang sent back.
“No way around it. In the Human World, my spiritual power burns too fast.” Faye Gale said.
Evan Yang finally understood: Faye Gale was used to the Fiend Realm, so her spiritual power consumption was problematic and couldn’t be replenished fast enough.
Just be careful. I’ll find a way—hold on for a bit." Evan Yang sent through sound transmission.
Faye Gale didn’t know what Evan Yang would do, only that she needed to be careful.
Evan Yang stood watching the fight, and after noticing a pattern, sent to Faye Gale: “Stay in one spot for a few breaths, and I’ll help you.”
Although Faye Gale didn’t know what Evan Yang planned, she was almost at her limit and could only stay in one spot to fight.
“Dare to stop? That’s your death sentence!” The black-clad man laughed loudly when he saw Faye Gale stop moving.
Faye Gale struggled to fend off the black-clad man’s attacks. The killer grew more excited, unaware that Evan Yang was plotting against him.
Just as Faye Gale was about to collapse, the lake water below suddenly surged up, forming a water figure that grabbed the black-clad man’s leg and pulled him down.
Before Faye Gale could react, Evan Yang sent a sound transmission: “Attack him now!”
Faye Gale snapped back to attention, while the black-clad man struggled to break free from the water figure, cursing, “Damn it, who’s there!”
When the black-clad man noticed Faye Gale’s move, he tried to fight back, but he couldn’t move at all.
Faye Gale’s rope artifact had already bound the black-clad man. Under her control, the rope gradually shortened and tightened, constricting him.
The water figure below kept dragging at his legs.
“Ah, you’re despicable!” The black-clad man yelled angrily.
“Despicable or not, just die!” Evan Yang snorted coldly. A flying needle shot out, aiming straight for the black-clad man’s head. As the man raged, he was hit and quickly prepared to let his soul escape his body. But the water suddenly moved and swallowed his soul whole.
Then it vanished into the water. Evan Yang knew he couldn’t let Faye Gale find out, or she’d question him, so he quickly put away the Soul-Slaying Water.
Faye Gale saw the dead black-clad man and retracted her rope, puzzled. “Strange, even his soul disappeared?”
“Maybe it escaped.” Evan Yang flew over, looked at the corpse, and muttered.
“Escaped?” Faye Gale muttered.
“Yeah, he probably won’t bother you again.” Evan Yang smiled.
“Thanks for earlier. You used water, didn’t you?” Faye Gale asked.
“Yes, I’m water attribute.” Evan Yang smiled.
“Water attribute? I thought you were wind attribute,” Faye Gale replied.
“I told you, that’s just my cultivation method—not wind attribute.” Evan Yang explained again.
“Alright, got it. Enough talk, let’s go—damn it.” Faye Gale looked at the corpse, kicked it, and left.
Evan Yang quickly followed Faye Gale away.
When Faye Gale returned to her room, she closed her eyes to rest. Evan Yang also went back to his room, entered the tower, and took out the Soul-Slaying Water.
“Did you eat it?” Evan Yang asked in surprise.
“No, it’s still in my mouth,” Soul-Slaying Water replied. A soul-like wisp floated out before Evan Yang, trying to escape but was restrained by Soul-Slaying Water.
“Who are you?” The soul looked at Evan Yang in terror.
“Obviously, I’m the one you tried to kill just now,” Evan Yang said with a smile.
“I know, but I don’t know who you are!” The soul was a master and knew a lot, but had never seen water like this. He was shocked, but more terrified, because souls are weakest at this stage. If he didn’t seize a body or recover soon, he’d lose his mind.
“You don’t need to know. Just tell me—are you from the Black Hand Sect?” Evan Yang smiled.
“Of course.” The soul replied.
“With your skills, why be an assassin instead of cultivating?” Evan Yang sneered.
“We do it to earn crystal sources, buy more things, and advance our cultivation,” the soul replied.
“But you need to live to spend it. Now that you’re in my hands, in a few days you’ll become a soulless spirit,” Evan Yang said with a smile.
“Please, let me go!” the soul pleaded in terror.
“Let you go? You’re so strong—what if you recover and come back to kill me?” Evan Yang smiled.
