Definitely Not Bewitched by Lust
Lily Bai didn’t deny it.
“Senior Sister, how did they manage to rescue Baxa?” Nine Li asked curiously.
“How would I know?”
“You don’t know either?”
Lily Bai nodded.
“Such a shame, I never got to thank Baxa!” Nine Li said mournfully. “Senior Sister, if you ever go meet them again, can you take me along?”
“Meet them again?” Lily Bai was so exasperated she laughed. “I was captured by them after killing the Violet Spirit Shark Fiend. What do you think my relationship with them is?”
“It looks like you get along pretty well!” Nine Li muttered.
Lily Bai smacked him on the back of the head. “Can you not say stuff like that?”
“No, no, I won’t!” Nine Li looked at his dad. “Dad, don’t get the wrong idea! My Senior Sister really was captured by them! She has zero personal connection with the Demon Emperor! The only reason she risked offending Sect Master Yule and Young Master Drake to demand a fair interrogation was her sense of justice! Justice! She’s definitely not bewitched by lust or anything like that...”
Lily Bai facepalmed.
“Yeah! Justice!” Lord Faustin, Immortal Warden of the Sigil Sect, sneered. “You’re really overflowing with righteousness today! You even used the Fourth Divine Prince to pressure Young Master Drake?”
“What’s wrong with overflowing righteousness?” Lily Bai retorted. “There are obvious problems here, shouldn’t we get to the bottom of it? I’m not making excuses for the demon clan—I just want the truth!”
“The truth...” Lord Faustin sounded a bit cynical. “And what good does knowing the truth do? Are you really going to help the Demon Emperor fight the Divine Race?”
“Master...” Lily Bai’s gaze sharpened. “Does knowing the truth mean I have to help the Demon Emperor fight the Divine Race? So what is the truth, anyway?”
“I never said that!” Lord Faustin’s eyes widened. “Don’t twist my words.”
“You definitely know something!” Lily Bai said. “Just tell us.”
Lord Faustin: “I have no idea what you’re talking about!”
“I’m talking about the Demon Emperor and Drake Abyss!” Lily Bai said. “You’ve always told me not to get involved with the Demon Slayer Alliance, not to meddle, to keep my head down and avoid trouble. I used to think you were just a coward—okay, okay, I mean lacking in guts! But now I’m starting to suspect... you know things we don’t.”
Lord Faustin: “I don’t know anything.”
“You definitely know! Just tell us, please?”
“You keep asking me to tell you, tell you! What exactly do you want me to say?” Lord Faustin snapped.
“Well... Damian Black! He told me the Divine Race framed him, that he didn’t do those things. I didn’t believe him at first. But today—everything looks like a setup! Even that Lord Stone Zheng who killed himself, right before dying he said the Demon Emperor would slaughter everyone, just to stir up more hatred...”
Lord Faustin stared at his nose, then at his heart, and said nothing.
“Master!”
“Let’s focus on how to deal with those people tonight! They’re coming to our door!” Lord Faustin said.
“Just keep playing sick! You’re so ill, how could they force you to go?” Lily Bai said.
“I have a feeling even playing sick won’t get me out of this tonight.” Lord Faustin said. “Otherwise, they wouldn’t be coming here.”
Lily Bai frowned. “We have no idea what they want! Tonight, we’ll just have to play it by ear.”
“Little Fish, just don’t say anything tonight,” Lord Faustin said. “Especially in front of Young Master Drake. You really pissed him off today, you know?”
Hearing that, Lily Bai was suddenly startled.
Could it be... the White Clan’s streak of bad luck started because of this?
