The Strange Lost Dao City

12/19/2025

Quentin Wood sighed and said, "We've been set up. I wasn't mistaken back then—someone really did follow us to the Half-Pattern Marsh. But instead of attacking, that person arranged a massive talisman outside the marsh, triggering a teleportation..."

Charlotte Ling suddenly understood and immediately asked, "Senior Wood, are you saying that once this teleportation array is set up, as long as we activate the escape talisman, we'll definitely be sent straight to the gates of Lost Dao City?"

Quentin Wood frowned and nodded, then muttered to himself, "But something still doesn't add up..."

"What doesn't add up?" Charlotte Ling asked.

Quentin Wood looked at the nearby Lost Dao City and said, "Only the City Lord of Lost Dao City, Samuel Shang, could set up such a powerful teleportation array, because it requires his innate treasure, the Starshroud Umbrella. If Samuel Shang was really pursuing us, he wouldn't need to waste time setting up a teleportation array with the Starshroud Umbrella—he could easily capture us himself, couldn't he?"

Charlotte Ling glanced at Lost Dao City, hesitated, and said, "Maybe we should just go into the city."

Quentin Wood hadn't suggested escaping at all, and Charlotte Ling clearly understood why. Now that they're here, someone must already know. There's absolutely no way to escape. Even if they tried, they'd be stopped almost immediately. Since there's no way out, there's no point talking about escaping—they might as well just go into the city.

Quentin Wood was still puzzled. "It still doesn't make sense. We've been here for a while, and plenty of people have noticed us—more than one, in fact. I knew running was pointless, which is why I didn't try. Logically, those people should have taken us to see Samuel Shang right away, so why hasn't anyone made a move yet?"

Both Quentin Wood and Charlotte Ling were bewildered at this moment, unable to figure out what was going on. While the two hesitated, unsure what to do, two cultivators swiftly approached from the distance.

Quentin Wood actually felt relieved. As long as someone came to talk to them, that was better. Even if things turned violent, it was preferable to being left in the dark.

But what baffled Quentin Wood and Charlotte Ling even more was that, upon seeing them, the two cultivators immediately lowered their heads and acted as if they hadn’t seen them at all, quickly passing by and rushing into Lost Dao City.

Were those two guys blind? That couldn't be right—they both had spiritual sense.

After his initial shock, Quentin Wood immediately said to Charlotte Ling, "Let's go into the city. When you see anyone, announce right away that you were swept in by a Void Vortex and have no idea where the exit is. Even now, you couldn't leave if you wanted to."

Quentin Wood wanted Charlotte Ling to let all the cultivators in Lost Dao City know that even if they killed her, she wouldn't know how to leave the city.

Charlotte Ling quickly replied, "I understand, Senior Wood."

......

Instead of leaving, Charlotte Ling and Quentin Wood walked straight into Lost Dao City, which sparked even more secret discussions among the city's cultivators.

Joe Di had left Lost Dao City after displaying his might—and it wasn't just a simple show of force, but leaving after killing hundreds of Dao Fusion cultivators.

Not long after Joe Di left, the City Lord of Lost Dao City, Samuel Shang, returned. Whether it was Fa Grant or Aron Peng who tried to talk to him or explain about Joe Di, Samuel Shang only responded with a cold snort before entering his secluded sanctuary, never coming out again.

Even stranger, after Samuel Shang retreated into his sanctuary, the same Quentin Wood and Charlotte Ling he had been chasing also arrived in Lost Dao City.

Not only did the two not panic and run, they actually entered Lost Dao City. Logically, Samuel Shang should have captured them immediately, but now it was as if he hadn’t even noticed them.

If even Samuel Shang ignored Charlotte Ling and Quentin Wood, the others naturally dared not make a move. Everyone knew that the woman was backed by Joe Di, whose strength likely rivaled Samuel Shang’s. Offending someone like Joe Di in the Lost Dao Domain—well, if you survived, that would be the real miracle.

Even those few cultivators who wanted to attack Charlotte Ling would only dare to do so after she left Lost Dao City—certainly not while she was still inside.

Of course, Samuel Shang’s spiritual sense had swept over Charlotte Ling and Quentin Wood as they arrived, and he scratched his head, speechless. In fact, the first thing he did upon returning to Lost Dao City was put away his Starshroud Umbrella. Yet even so, that bastard Quentin Wood still managed to teleport here. It just showed how cautious he was.

If Samuel Shang had a choice, he really wouldn’t want Charlotte Ling to come to Lost Dao City now. After all, he’d seen what Joe Di was capable of—and that was terrifying.

He possessed the Book of Life and Death, the Creation Brush, the Starshroud Umbrella, and other primordial treasures, but Joe Di’s innate artifacts were just as numerous—if not more powerful. The Voidmount and Yin-Yang Taiji Diagram were impressive enough, but Joe Di even brought out the Lethe Bridge. Honestly, Samuel Shang couldn’t figure out what Joe Di didn’t have.

Now that Charlotte Ling was in Lost Dao City, he still couldn’t make a move. He was certain she didn’t know how to leave the Lost Dao Domain—otherwise, she wouldn’t have fled to the Half-Pattern Marsh.

Since Charlotte Ling didn’t know how to leave Lost Dao City, capturing her would just give Joe Di an excuse to cause chaos in the city. Samuel Shang really didn’t want to fight Joe Di here—it would do him absolutely no good.

With a sigh, Quentin Wood could only continue his seclusion. His main goal was to further comprehend the Genesis Script Divine Art.

He knew very well the shortcomings of his Genesis Script Divine Art. This technique was absolutely top-tier, but the lack of vitality here meant he could never grasp its true essence. Without that, he couldn’t fully master or integrate the Genesis Script Divine Art.

If he could truly master the Genesis Script Divine Art, Samuel Shang was certain he would have already defeated Joe Di—even if Joe Di had the Lethe Bridge, it wouldn’t change the outcome.

......

"Senior Wood, no one really tried to attack us," Charlotte Ling said in surprise, watching cultivators pass by without incident.

Quentin Wood nodded. "It is rather strange. Let me ask someone."

As he spoke, Quentin Wood stopped a passing cultivator. "Greetings, fellow Daoist."

The Dao Fusion cultivator quickly returned the greeting, "Daoist Wood, long time no see."

The Lost Dao Domain was only so big. While some cultivators didn’t reside in Lost Dao City, after so many years, everyone more or less knew each other—even if they hadn’t met, they’d at least heard of one another.

But Quentin Wood didn’t recognize this cultivator; he’d always lived outside. Only the capable cultivators came to Lost Dao City, and someone like him—who cultivated through plants—was considered inferior.

"I heard someone put out a bounty on my friend Charlotte Ling, so I brought her here to ask about it." Even Quentin Wood found it bizarre—someone had put a bounty on his friend, and yet he’d brought her here to ask about it. Was there anything more absurd than this?

The Dao Fusion cultivator gave a somewhat awkward smile. "I haven’t heard anything about that—maybe you misheard, Daoist Wood."

After saying this, the Dao Fusion cultivator cupped his fists toward Charlotte Ling. "Greetings, Fairy. I have matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave."

He didn’t wait for Quentin Wood or Charlotte Ling to respond, but quickly turned and hurried away.

Quentin Wood and Charlotte Ling exchanged glances. After a long moment, Quentin Wood finally said, "Lost Dao City is the only place in the Lost Dao Domain with any trace of vitality. Since no one here is trying to harm us, I suggest we stay in the city for now."

If they could keep cultivating in Lost Dao City, Quentin Wood was sure his cultivation wouldn’t be stuck at the early Dao Fusion stage. Even if he didn’t reach the third step, he’d at least be late Dao Fusion.

"Alright." Charlotte Ling agreed immediately, understanding Quentin Wood’s point. If they didn’t figure out what was going on, leaving Lost Dao City could mean a quick death.

Quentin Wood and Charlotte Ling searched for an open spot in Lost Dao City to set up their cave dwelling. Not a single person objected, interfered, or even bothered to speak to them. It was as if everyone had made an unspoken agreement—even when passing by, they would detour around their cave dwellings.

At this point, Charlotte Ling didn’t need to announce that she didn’t know the way out—everyone could tell. If she knew, why would she be hiding in Lost Dao City?
