The Unlucky Woman

"Roxy Shangguan!" Unexpectedly, Roxy Shangguan answered him directly and without hesitation.

Looking at the little boy's bright eyes, Roxy Shangguan was momentarily stunned. Strange! It was just a name—was it really something to be so happy about?

As Quentin Hua approached, he saw the two exchanging tender glances, their eyes full of emotion. His expression instantly darkened. He strode over and swept Roxy Shangguan into his arms.

Roxy Shangguan's eyes lit up when she saw him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and planted a kiss on his cheek. Then, realizing Quentin Hua's face looked rather grim, she reached out and gently rubbed his cheek. "Quentin, what's wrong?"

Quentin Hua's expression gradually softened. He pecked her lips lightly and smiled, "It's nothing." Holding her, he turned and started walking back.

The little boy watched them walk away, his eyes filled with disappointment. He tugged at his sleeve, feeling a bit sad inside. He wondered if he would ever see her again. Although they were both on this mountaintop, it seemed like they belonged to different worlds. Suddenly remembering something, the boy shouted loudly to the two who were walking away, "My name is Ian Lu!" His mother had told him that the Right Envoy had chosen this name for him!

Quentin Hua's softened expression turned gloomy once again. Roxy Shangguan even heard his teeth grinding. She shrank her neck and asked cautiously, "Quentin, are you alright?"

Quentin Hua replied stiffly, "I'm fine." But in his heart, he was extremely annoyed. That brat who hadn't even grown up yet dared to have designs on his Roxy—he sure had guts!

This time, Roxy Shangguan was truly confused. She didn’t understand what he was angry about, but it probably, maybe, hopefully had nothing to do with her, right? She’d been well-behaved all day!

"Shut up!"

A sharp reprimand rang out. Roxy Shangguan, still clinging to Quentin Hua's neck, turned to look and saw those two women she really couldn't stand pestering Luna Ying.

The reprimand came from Luna Ying herself, whose face was a little flushed, seemingly out of anger!

At this moment, seeing Quentin Hua approach, the two women ignored Luna Ying and instead swayed over to Quentin Hua, gazing at him with infatuated eyes. In sweet voices, they said, "Greetings, Sect Master."

Quentin Hua was already in a foul mood, and seeing these two women only made it worse. Just as he was about to lose his temper, Roxy Shangguan spoke up first, "Sister Luna, what's wrong? Did these two ugly women bully you?"

The two women wanted to get angry, but with the Sect Master present, they had to hold it in. Their twisted expressions made Luna Ying instantly calm down, and a hint of amusement appeared in her eyes. She couldn't help but shake her head—Roxy really was a treasure, no wonder the Sect Master doted on her so much!

The two women acted in perfect sync, leaning toward Quentin Hua with pitiful, coquettish voices, "Sect Master..."

Quentin Hua stepped back, not letting the two women succeed. Suddenly, Roxy Shangguan covered her nose and said in a muffled voice, "Quentin, they smell awful!"

The two women’s expressions changed again, but they suppressed their tempers, quickly switching to tearful, pitiful faces, as if they’d suffered some great injustice.

"Ugh..." Roxy Shangguan switched to covering her mouth, muttering indistinctly, "What a disgusting expression!"

"Pfft..." Seeing the two women’s faces twitch, Luna Ying finally couldn’t hold back her laughter, though she quickly stifled it, her shoulders shaking with mirth.

Roxy Shangguan glanced at her and said, "Sister Luna, if you want to laugh, just laugh. If you hold it in, Roxy will feel sorry for you!"

"Sect Master..." Now the two women were truly aggrieved. Their status wasn't all that noble, but they'd never been bullied by a two-year-old before.

Quentin Hua’s eyes were full of amusement, and most of his annoyance had faded. He said to Luna Ying, "Throw these two women off the mountain!" They did have some beauty, and ordinarily he might have kept them around, but since Roxy didn’t like them, he couldn’t let them stay in the Lotus Sect.

What he meant was to drive the two women down the mountain, but his words were easily misunderstood. Luna Ying understood his meaning, but when she ordered someone to act, she also said to throw the two women off the mountain. Because Quentin Hua had something to ask her, she hurried to follow him to his courtyard.

As a result, the people carrying out the order took it literally. One grabbed their legs, the other their shoulders, and with a "one, two, three," they tossed the women right off the mountaintop.

It had to be said, those two women were truly... unlucky!

"Luna Ying, where did that Ian Lu kid come from?" Quentin Hua sat down with Roxy Shangguan in his arms, looking thoroughly displeased. How had such a brat appeared in the Lotus Sect? Clearly, he'd spent too much time away and no longer knew all the people in the sect!

"Huh?" Suddenly hearing Quentin Hua ask about Ian Lu, Luna Ying was stunned. She glanced carefully at Quentin Hua’s grim face, frowning slightly. With the Sect Master's temperament, he shouldn’t care about such things, and wouldn’t drive Ian Lu away just because of gossip, right?

She actually felt very sorry for Ian Lu. He was always so sensible, yet born into such circumstances.

Ian Lu’s mother had originally been a cook in the Lotus Sect, with a bit of beauty herself. One time, she went down the mountain with someone responsible for errands, and not long after returning, she found herself pregnant. An unmarried woman with a child—her fate was predictable. Gossip swirled, and even her former friends thought her promiscuous and stopped speaking to her. Even so, she bore the pressure and insisted on giving birth to Ian Lu, but tragically died in childbirth.

A newborn child without a mother, a father unknown—a bastard, struggling to survive. If Luna Ying hadn’t protected him, Ian Lu wouldn’t have lived this long. Even so, Luna Ying couldn’t look after him all the time, so Ian Lu was often bullied. Quentin Hua knew none of this, since Luna Ying had never told him.
