A Unlucky Woman

"Ahem..." Quentin Hua was momentarily stunned, then couldn't help but smile. Overall, he was quite satisfied with Roxy Shangguan's display of possessiveness. Seeing her dressed in only an undergarment, Quentin Hua frowned. "Are you cold? Put on some clothes first!"

Having achieved her goal, Roxy Shangguan became exceptionally obedient. Although her cultivation meant she never felt cold, she was more than happy to snuggle into Quentin Hua's embrace.

Quentin Hua held her close and instructed the maid to fetch Roxy Shangguan's clothes, and also had all her belongings moved into his room.

After breakfast, Quentin Hua needed to attend to some matters. He had originally intended to take Roxy Shangguan with him, but she was unwilling, so he asked Luna Ying to look after her.

It was a bit of a waste of talent, really—Luna Ying was the Right Envoy of the Lotus Sect, and now she was reduced to babysitting. Still, Luna Ying was rather fond of the adorable Roxy Shangguan and didn’t mind at all.

As soon as Quentin Hua left, Roxy Shangguan grabbed a handful of candies and dashed outside. Luna Ying hurriedly called after her, "Roxy, where are you going?"

Without even looking back, Roxy Shangguan replied, "To see the flowers."

Luna Ying shook her head helplessly and followed after her.

Roxy Shangguan popped a candy into her mouth, sprawled out among the flowers, her small hands tucked behind her head and one leg crossed over the other. No matter how you looked at her, she was simply adorable!

Luna Ying couldn't help but laugh. Wasn’t this the Lotus Sect Master’s usual pose?

Roxy Shangguan ignored her, closed her eyes, and basked in the sun. The gentle breeze brushed her cheeks and the air was filled with the fragrance of flowers. She couldn't help but think to herself—Flower really knew how to enjoy life, finding such a perfect spot.

Seeing that Roxy Shangguan seemed to have fallen asleep, Luna Ying worried she might catch a chill, so she went back to fetch a coat for her—after all, the wind on the mountaintop was strong.

Roxy Shangguan opened her eyes and watched Luna Ying's departing figure, her small face tightening as she called out, "Reaper One..."

A gust of wind, colder and sharper than the gentle breeze, swept by. The little ghost called Reaper One sat down beside her and spoke, "Princess, those two women were sent by the Inferno Sect master..."

Although the Lotus Sect had little desire for power, it was still a force not to be underestimated. The righteous sects looked down on them, but those of the Evil Path vied to curry favor. Knowing Quentin Hua loved beautiful women, every year many were sent from all over. If Quentin Hua was pleased, they stayed to serve him; if not, he’d leave them to Yi Ren and Luna Ying to handle.

So the abundance of beauties in the Lotus Sect wasn’t entirely Quentin Hua’s doing.

Ever since the treasure incident, the martial world had declined. But with the Ghost Guild and Cloud Guild holding strong, and the First Manor remaining untouched, plus sects like the Lotus Sect and Ye Sect still present, even the court dared not act rashly. The martial world was relatively peaceful, though after this storm, it would take a long time to recover.

Old powers faded, new ones rose—Inferno Sect was the latest to emerge, part of the Evil Path, and their purpose in sending beauties to the Lotus Sect was clear. Everyone knew currying favor with the Ghost Guild and Cloud Guild was nearly impossible, since no one knew what the Ghostmaster or Cloud Guildmaster liked. Now, with both leaders rarely appearing, people even questioned whether they were still in charge!

Rakshasa Palace had long vanished—the Three Evils were no longer an option. So now, all attention turned to the Lotus Sect, whose master’s preferences were well known.

Roxy Shangguan snorted coldly. "Tell Inferno: if he dares set his sights on Flower again, I’ll destroy his Inferno Sect myself!"

"Yes!"

"How is the Cloud Guild?" Roxy Shangguan hadn’t forgotten she was still acting as Cloud Guildmaster.

Reaper One stood up and replied, "Nothing major." With that, he vanished—naturally to find Claude Yun. It wasn’t his job to deliver warnings; if he did, he might frighten the recipient out of their wits!

Roxy Shangguan closed her eyes again. It seemed Luna Ying must have gotten caught up in something—she still hadn’t returned.

She sensed someone approaching. The footsteps sounded like a child’s, but when they came close, they stopped, and all was silent. After a long while, Roxy Shangguan finally opened her eyes and saw a little boy standing before her. He was delicate and handsome, about seven or eight years old, dressed in patched but clean clothes—clearly not a disciple of the Lotus Sect.

The little boy stared at Roxy Shangguan with wide, black-pearl eyes. Roxy Shangguan watched him calmly. After a long moment, the boy finally asked, his face full of excitement, "Are you an immortal child?"

Roxy Shangguan hadn’t expected him to blurt out such a thing after all that silence. She swallowed her candy in surprise and ended up choking on it.

The little boy quickly knelt beside her, his face anxious. "Are you alright?" He wanted to reach out and touch Roxy Shangguan but didn’t dare.

At last, Roxy Shangguan caught her breath and glared at him. "I’m a person, a person!" Hmph! What’s so special about being an immortal, anyway?

Thinking of her two grandmasters, Roxy Shangguan couldn’t help touching her nose. Well, maybe being an immortal was a little special—but only a little!

The little boy nodded foolishly, "Oh."

Seeing his dazed expression, Roxy Shangguan found him dull—her Flower was much more interesting, and pleasing to the eye!

"Um..."

"What is it?" Roxy Shangguan frowned at the little boy, whose face was red with hesitation. "If you have something to say, just say it! Why are you stammering? A real man shouldn’t be so timid!"

Prompted by her words, the boy bit his lip and asked, "What’s your name?" After he asked, he looked at Roxy Shangguan expectantly. He knew that even if she wasn’t an immortal child, she was still out of reach. It was already a miracle she spoke to him; surely she wouldn’t tell him her name.
