True and False Encounters

1/4/2026

Cici never expected that the other person would make such a request as soon as she opened her mouth.

Take her with me?

How is that possible?

I haven't even figured out her background yet!

Even though she keeps saying we're friends, why don't I feel any of the usual connection or familiarity that friends should have?

Rona Muir was also once my friend. After I lost my memory, she pretended to bump into me, acted like she forgot her wallet, and got me to pay for her coffee. Then she shamelessly stuck around.

But back then, with Rona, I felt this inexplicable sense of familiarity and warmth.

That's why I didn't mind her clinginess at all.

But this woman who claims to be Yolanda Jiang, I don't feel any of that familiarity or warmth. In fact, it all feels so forced.

Three years ago, could I really have been friends with her?

I'm afraid not.

Cici lowered her eyes and said, "What a coincidence, I'm also here as someone else's guest, so I don't have the right to bring anyone. Invitations from the Yin Family aren't easy to come by. Who am I to have one myself?"

When Yolanda Jiang heard this, a flash of disappointment and unwillingness crossed her eyes.

How could that be?

Charles Yin cares so much about Cici. Today in the manor's greenhouse, I saw it clearly—he's determined to have her. Even if she's lost her memory, Charles Yin won't let her go.

Why wouldn't Charles Yin give Cici an invitation?

Could it be that Cici showed up as Charles Yin's date?

That makes even less sense.

As Charles Yin's companion, she should be able to invite her own friends.

Could it be that Cici is wary of me and doesn't want to take me along?

Honestly, Yolanda Jiang is actually pretty smart—she guessed right this time!

Cici just doesn't want to take her!

If Cici is going to invite someone, it would be Rona Muir! Why bring a stranger she just met yesterday and knows nothing about?

If she takes Rona Muir, at least she can expand her company's network and connections.

If she takes Yolanda Jiang... isn't that just wasting a spot?

After a while, the food was served.

One wasn't hungry because lunch was late, the other was preoccupied and had no appetite—both of them ate absentmindedly.

Halfway through the meal, Cici nodded at Yolanda Jiang. "I'm going to the restroom for a bit."

Yolanda Jiang nodded.

Cici grabbed her purse and turned to leave the room.
