Just at this tense moment, a freakish scream rang out—neither quite human nor ghost. Out leapt a monster, dressed weirdly, body stiff as a board, mouth crammed with fangs, and strong enough to snap steel. No doubt about it: this was one of those legendary zombies.
Honestly, it was Ryan Ling’s first time seeing something this terrifying—plus, he was at the front of the group. His face went sheet white, almost scared pissless. Even the so-called expert zombie-catchers next to him looked totally freaked out. No wonder: this zombie was crazed and violent, like something had set it off, and its strength was absolutely nuts.
The steel barriers the cops had set up? The zombie flattened them with a single punch. Those thick steel rods bent like noodles, and the brick walls on the site got smashed to bits. This thing was way beyond your average zombie.
“This zombie’s way too violent! Look, its eyeballs are turning red—that’s the sign it’s about to evolve into a red-fur zombie. We’ve all gotta go in together! Red-fur zombies have pretty much gone extinct in the last decade!”
“Yeah, that’s right! Forget sects and factions—if we don’t work together, once this thing turns red-fur, we’re all dead. And so is everyone nearby!”
Faced with this nightmare, a few of the more seasoned experts finally spoke up. Even Warren Yuan and the rest nodded along. Honestly, if everyone didn’t pull together and fight as one, they’d all be toast tonight.
Right now, Ryan Ling’s heart was pounding like crazy. Sure, he could use the Wish‑Bound Telekinesis Art, which sounded all fancy and mystical, but his own power was way too weak. Dealing with regular martial artists was already tough—going up against a super-powered, wrecking-ball zombie? Forget it.
Plus, Ryan knew a bit about these so-called red-fur zombies. There are all kinds of zombies—the lowest level is white-fur, just barely starting to get corpse energy. Next up is green-fur, which are pretty common. After green comes red-fur.
Red-fur zombies are super rare. Their destructive power is off the charts, and the real kicker is their insane strength—one punch could kill a grizzly, and they can shrug off bullets. Even most Daoist magic doesn’t work on them.
So if one really evolves, unless you’ve got a legit grandmaster on your side, everyone else is basically doomed.
Right now, Ryan Ling wanted nothing to do with this 'master' crap—let someone else play hero.
With everyone focused on the zombie, Ryan instantly shuffled backward, trying to get out of the line of fire.
Meanwhile, six or seven of the experts had already gotten into a brawl with the zombie.
These guys were seriously skilled—except Warren Yuan, who was the weakest of the bunch. Talismans, dog blood, ink cords—they threw everything they had at the zombie.
But this zombie was about to level up to red-fur—nothing fazed it. It kicked two of the experts flying, shrugged off the talismans like they’d expired, and ripped the ink cord apart. Its strength freaked out even the cops.
All the cops had their guns out, but nobody could decide whether to shoot or not.
“Hong Si, Jin Liu, get the sword formation ready!” barked Gus Ge, the most senior member of the team. The two burly guys instantly drew their glowing, blood-red swords—pure yang, perfect for fighting zombies.
As the three brothers whipped out their swords, the rest—including Warren Yuan—grabbed a thick black iron chain, ready to strike.
Six swords slashed at the zombie, but its body was like solid steel. Piercing it was nearly impossible.
And whatever was provoking it, the zombie just got angrier—its eyes almost shooting out killer red beams.
The sword formation was falling apart—Jin Liu’s wrist suddenly popped out of joint, and his sword clanged to the ground.
The zombie kicked him hard, sending him flying. With one man down, the three couldn’t hold the zombie at all.
Gus Ge roared and stabbed at the zombie’s chest with both hands. There were three massive clangs—the sword snapped in three, but the zombie’s chest was barely marked, just a faint red spot.
Its body was basically diamond-hard.
Ryan had never seen anything this insane before—his heart was about to jump out of his throat. If he’d come alone, he’d be zombie paste by now.
The zombie shrieked and swung its iron-hard arm—Gus Ge and Hong Si went flying, with huge chunks torn from their chests and backs.
Ryan could barely stand to look—this zombie was way scarier than he’d imagined.
He wanted to run, but the place was crawling with cops. If he bolted now, he’d either get killed by the zombie or shot as a deserter.
But Gus Ge was hardcore—didn’t care about the hole in his chest. He jumped up, grabbed the iron chain, and yelled, “Don’t just stand there! Wrap it up with the chain and set it on fire!”
Everyone grabbed the chain and charged. They wrapped up the zombie, and Hong Si and Jin Liu dumped a barrel of diesel over it.
The flames roared to life!
Ryan finally let out a breath, and the cops around him eased up a little.
But just then, the zombie—now engulfed in flames—let out a monstrous roar, snapped the chains, and sent everyone flying. The ground shook from the force.
The cops couldn’t hold back anymore—bullets flew like rain, but the zombie’s eyes glowed red and its whole body sprouted red fur.
Red-fur zombie! Ryan’s mind went blank—he never expected this monster would really turn into a legendary red-fur right before his eyes.
But the worst part? The red-fur zombie started stalking straight toward Ryan, claws out like it wanted to eat him alive.
Ryan wanted to scream: Hey, it was them chopping and burning you, not me! I didn’t do anything!
But the zombie bared its teeth and roared at him. Ryan instinctively glanced at Warren Yuan and the others, hoping they’d save him. Just then, Warren shouted, “Don’t panic, everyone! The zombie may have evolved, but we’ve got Master Ryan—look, he’s totally calm! He must have a way to subdue it, just wait!”
Gus Ge and the other responsible experts were about to charge in, but Warren’s speech made them all freeze.
Ryan wanted to strangle that bastard right then and there.
But at a moment like this, Ryan couldn’t just stand there and die. He remembered the Netherworld Staff Employment Form—no idea if it would work, but he had to try.
He whipped out the form and shoved it in the zombie’s face, yelling, “Stop! Read what’s on this!”
Gus Ge, Hong Si, and Jin Liu all stared wide-eyed.
The cops were stunned too.
Everyone thought Master Ryan would whip out some earth-shaking magic weapon, but it was just a piece of paper!
Warren Yuan, face full of black lines, couldn’t help praising: “Master Ryan, you really know how to show off. I’m impressed—totally impressed!”
