The Death of Lily Bai Part 4
As she pulled her hand out, the thickest part scraped off some flesh and bone, leaving a bloody mess.
But to her, it was just a minor wound.
No sooner had she pulled her hand free than she dashed forward, leapt up, grabbed the painting, and tried to rip it down!
But a flash of red light swept across the painting.
Lily Bai felt a destructive force emanating from it.
A void—an emptiness that seemed able to swallow everything.
At the same time, a familiar, gentle energy wrapped around her.
She was pulled backward by that energy and let go of the painting.
She was still alive.
And the painting was perfectly intact.
"You just triggered the restriction on the painting," said the fish. "Luckily the Holy Spirit protected you, or you would have ceased to exist."
"Please, let him go," Lily Bai pleaded. "Don't hurt him!"
"No way! I've been stuck in this painting for tens of thousands of years—I have to get out!"
With that, it started draining Evan Lan's life energy again.
"Stop!" Lily Bai shouted. Not daring to touch the painting again, she spun around, dashed to the wooden rack, and in a blur of motion, scooped Evan Lan off the high platform and cradled him in her arms.
At this moment, she couldn't see the special forces.
She couldn't see their guns either.
She only wanted to protect Evan Lan.
Even if it meant dying with him... that was fine.
Bang! A gunshot rang out.
A warm body collapsed against her.
Lily Bai turned and saw Eric Lan.
He told her, "The stairs lead to the summit! Go! If one can escape... that's one more alive!"
As he spoke, blood gushed from his mouth and nose.
He slumped, limp, against Lily Bai.
Lily Bai's mind went blank as she held him, staring at the bullet wound in his back.
She hugged him tightly, her gaze fixed on the bullet hole in his back.
Everything else faded away—her world narrowed to Eric Lan and the blood soaking through his shirt.
She felt utterly powerless, but also fiercely protective.
No matter what happened next, she wouldn't let anyone hurt Eric Lan or Evan Lan again.
She took a shaky breath, bracing herself for whatever came next.
The chamber echoed with chaos—shouts, gunfire, and the relentless drain of Evan Lan's life energy.
But Lily Bai refused to give up. Not now. Not ever.
She clung to Eric Lan and Evan Lan, ready to face the storm.
Whatever happened next, she would fight to the end.
For love, for family, for the world—she would not back down.
She couldn't see the special forces' guns.
She only wanted to protect Evan Lan.
Even if it meant dying with him... that was fine.
