Farewell to Mr. Kee

1/4/2026

Wendy stammered, "M-Mr. Yin, Mrs. Yin, uh, I mean, Miss Gu!"

Cecilia Gu took a deep breath, ignoring Wendy's slip of the tongue, and said, "The environment here is pretty powerful! You two have adapted really well!"

Isn't it impressive?

Just a few days ago, both of them were all business elite, dressed in top designer brands and full of confidence.

But now, in just a few days, the two of them are wearing slippers and baggy shorts, squatting here to steal eggs!

If they hadn't seen it with their own eyes, they never would've believed it!

Wendy looked embarrassed. What was she supposed to say?

How could she explain to her bosses that she and Alex were just messing with each other?

The two of them were doing their best to make each other look ridiculous!

No way she could say that—it would totally ruin their image!

Mia Dou couldn't help but say to Coco Shen, "Today was really eye-opening! I've never seen a romance play out like this!"

Coco Shen nodded, "Me too, I've learned something new today!"

Luckily, Frank Fang and Yuan Yuan came out just then, giving Wendy and Alex a chance to hurry back to their rooms and change out of those eye-popping outfits.

Wendy looked at herself in the mirror, wearing a bright red peony-print old lady t-shirt and grandma-style shorts, with a morning glory flower stuck in her hair by Alex at some point. She instantly covered her face.

That's it, her image was completely ruined!

Wendy quickly changed her clothes, took off the morning glory, fixed her hair, and with just an eyebrow pencil and lipstick, instantly transformed back into the urban elite Chief Special Assistant.

Wendy hurriedly opened the door, and turned to see Alex had also changed, looking once again like the familiar Chief Special Assistant Alex.

They exchanged glances, and for some reason, it felt like their eyes had been healed.

Honestly, the way they hurt each other was also the way they both got hurt.

The two of them went back downstairs, stood beside Charles Yin and Cecilia Gu, took over Frank Fang and Yuan Yuan's duties, and explained the situation clearly.

After listening to the reports from the two, Charles Yin furrowed his brows and said, "It seems things are even worse than we imagined."

Xiao Wang said, "Mr. Qi doesn't want to use too many interventions. Besides pain relief and sleep aids, he hardly uses any other medication. So, to make him more comfortable, we've extended his sleep time. Maybe being asleep is the only time he feels at ease."

Yuan Yuan added, "Mr. Qi's bodily functions are declining every day. Too much medication won't make much difference at this point. His wish is to age and pass away naturally."

"Thank you for your hard work," Charles Yin nodded to Fang Zheng and Yuan Yuan.

"It's what we should do," Fang Zheng and Yuan Yuan immediately straightened up and replied with bowed heads.

Charles Yin and Cecilia Gu went to Mr. Qi's room. Looking at the sleeping old man, Charles's brows were tightly knit; even in sleep, he knew Mr. Qi was still in pain.

"We'll be staying here for a few days," Charles Yin told Fang Zheng. "Go make the arrangements."

"Yes, sir." Fang Zheng turned and left.

Everyone knew what was going on.

This visit was to say goodbye to Mr. Qi, to accompany this loyal elder on his final journey.

Mr. Qi woke up again in the evening.

He saw Charles Yin and Cecilia Gu and was very happy. He was too weak to speak in complete sentences, but he still managed to say a few words to them, brokenly.

Cecilia Gu couldn't describe how she felt. Suddenly, she realized she'd been too dramatic in the past.

Life in this world only lasts a few decades.

Is there anything that can withstand the passage of time?

Since we're alive, we should spend every day happily!

Everyone else in the room left, leaving only Charles Yin sitting beside Mr. Qi, chatting about company matters.

Mr. Qi just listened, quietly, with his respirator on.

He rarely heard about company affairs these days, so hearing them made him happy.

That was the company he'd devoted his whole youth to.

Looking at the Yin Corporation growing stronger, passed down through generations of the Yin family, he felt as if he were watching his own child thrive—an indescribable sense of pride and joy.

Finally, Elder Qi suddenly raised his hand, interrupting Charles Yin, and spoke with difficulty, "Charles, I want to ask you for a favor."

"Please, go ahead." Charles Yin held the old man's hand. "If it's within my power, I promise I'll do it."

"Alex and Wendy are good kids," Elder Qi said softly. "I ask you to allow them to be together. I know office romances can be risky, but I have a good eye for people—they won't cause trouble."

Charles Yin chuckled, "Elder Qi, I already agreed to it."

Only then did Elder Qi nod in relief. "Good."

"Alex has been with me for so many years, and I've seen all his hard work. Wendy was chosen by him to be Cecilia's assistant. Cecilia and I are one, so our assistants are like family too. We both support them." Charles explained, "It's rare for Alex to meet someone he truly likes. As his boss, I have no reason to object."

"That's wonderful," Elder Qi breathed a sigh of relief. "Those kids are good."

Charles Yin and the others stayed at the sanatorium.

Since there weren't enough rooms, tents were set up all over the courtyard.

Fortunately, the courtyard was large enough—otherwise, they really wouldn't have fit.

Time drifted by, leisurely and slow—three or four days passed in a blur.

On this day, Elder Qi suddenly seemed much more spirited.

Yuan Yuan gently shook her head at everyone. They all understood—this was just a final burst of energy before the end.

Wendy said, "The weather's so nice today. Why don't we take Elder Qi outside for some sunshine?"

"Great idea." Alex eagerly brought over the wheelchair, carefully helped Elder Qi into it, covered him with a thin blanket, and wheeled him out of the room he'd stayed in for so long.

Everyone gathered around, accompanying him to the courtyard to bask in the sun together.

The sun overhead was warm, the air fragrant with flowers, and the distant breeze soft as a whisper.

Elder Qi smiled as he gazed at everything before him, as if trying to imprint it all in his memory and take it with him.
