What You Fear Always Comes True
Later, after Su Sanyun and Su Shirong finished selling vegetables and returned home, they handed the money over to Sun Shi. After Sun Shi did the accounting, she kept the net profit and returned the entire principal to the Su Li family.
While Sun Shi was busy with the accounts, Qing Mu arrived outside, saying that Su Li's family had invited them over.
"Oh, it's so late, what does A Li want with us?" Su Sanyun said as he put on his outer robe.
Sun Shi's heart skipped a beat, thinking, could it be that her secret threat to the Flowers family was discovered? But then she thought, that couple from the Flowers family was too timid to make a fuss, so they probably wouldn't dare to complain after her threat.
Sun Shi answered absentmindedly, "I'm not a mind reader; how would I know?"
Su Sanyun and Su Shirong finished dressing and urged Sun Shi, who slowly put on her outer garment. Su Sanyun said, "Go take some of our homemade sausages to A Li to try."
Sun Shi curled her lips, "We don't even have enough for ourselves, why make some for her? She's so rich, if she wants to eat something, she can buy it herself. Who cares about our lousy sausages?"
Su Sanyun immediately frowned, "Giving something to A Li is our gesture of goodwill; it shouldn't be calculated with money."
Although Sun Shi was unhappy inside, she still took a piece of sausage, wrapped it in oil paper, and put it in a basket. She carried it and said to Su Lanxiang, "Lanxiang, you stay home and watch the door. Your father, brother, and I are going to A Li's house. We'll bring back some tasty snacks for you."
Su Lanxiang clapped happily upon hearing there would be snacks, "Okay, I'll watch the house. Father and mother, hurry up and go!"
The three of them braved the cold and went out. Qing Mu waited in the courtyard and led them to Su Li's house.
Still in the main hall, Su Sanyun walked in smiling, "A Li, thanks to the good business you brought, look, Third Uncle's family can now afford to eat meat!"
Su Sanyun pointed to the sausage and said with a simple smile, "This is the sausage your Third Aunt made herself. It's better than the ones outside. We brought some for you to try. Third Uncle knows your cooking skills are good, so don't laugh at your Third Aunt's cooking."
Su Li smiled warmly as she took the basket, "How could I laugh? I think the sausage looks pretty good."
The few of them sat down drinking tea. Su Li looked at the faces of Third Uncle and Su Shirong and saw that father and son were both happy and straightforward. But Sun Shi, sitting down and drinking tea, kept darting her eyes around, looking troubled and preoccupied.
Su Li paused for a moment and said, "Third Uncle, the reason I called you here today is to talk about you taking over the Flowers family's vegetable selling territory."
Su Sanyun was stunned upon hearing this and exchanged a glance with Su Shirong, "A Li, what are you saying? Taking over the Flowers family's territory?"
Su Shirong was also completely clueless, but Sun Shi suddenly laughed loudly, "Ah ha ha, A Li, Third Aunt was just telling you how the sausage was made..."
Sun Shi then grabbed Su Li's arm and went on and on about how she made the sausage, in great detail. Su Li said nothing and didn't interrupt, just stared at her with clear, penetrating eyes.
Under that burning gaze, Sun Shi felt her face growing hotter and her unease expanding. Eventually, she couldn't continue and awkwardly fell silent, forcing a smile, "A Li, it's so late. If there's nothing else, we'll head back first. We have to get up early to sell vegetables tomorrow."
As Sun Shi spoke, she hurriedly stood up and pulled her husband and son to leave, looking extremely guilty, fearing Su Li would expose her for forcibly taking over the Flowers family's vegetable selling territory.
But just as they feared, what they dreaded the most came true.
