Refusing to Admit Fault
"Third Aunt, don't rush to leave." Su Li glanced at the table, her sharp eyes fixed on Mrs. Sun.
Mrs. Sun felt her neck stiffen, her heart pounding wildly, but she forced a calm smile: "If there's something, we can talk about it later."
"This matter must be resolved today." Su Li stood up, walked over to Mrs. Sun, blocked her path, and made a gesture inviting her to stay.
Su Sanyun watched his niece confront his wife, confused, but seeing Su Li so determined, he tugged at Mrs. Sun and said, "A Li must have something important to say. Why are you in such a hurry to leave?"
Nearby, Su Shirong also chimed in to help: "Yeah, at least let us hear what it's about."
Mrs. Sun's expression darkened further; she bit her lip, her face turning black. She plopped down with a bad attitude, glaring at Su Li: "If there's something, just say it quickly."
Su Li spoke gently, "Third Uncle, when we agreed to do business, we said each family has its own territory. If your business grows and you feel the space is too small, you can rent or buy land from other villagers, but under no circumstances should you snatch territory."
Su Sanyun and Su Shirong immediately showed puzzled expressions, while Mrs. Sun grit her teeth, glaring at Su Li as if she wanted to devour her.
Su Li took in their expressions and formed a plan in her mind. Clearly, Third Uncle and Su Shirong didn’t know about this; it seemed Mrs. Sun was the only one blinded by greed causing trouble.
Su Li sighed, feigning helplessness: "Especially don’t use the name of our relatives to snatch others’ territory and threaten them. You’re damaging our own family’s reputation. How am I supposed to keep doing business like this?"
Su Sanyun finally understood and quickly stood up, waving his hands anxiously: "A Li, we, we didn’t do that! Shirong and I honestly sell vegetables every day, right on the plot you assigned us. Our own territory is just starting to develop; we don’t have the means to buy others’ land, let alone snatch it."
Su Shirong, sweating nervously, added: "Yeah, my father and I just sell vegetables on our own plot, we haven’t gone anywhere else."
"Hmm, Third Uncle and Shirong do sell on your plots, but what about Third Aunt?" Su Li tapped the table and looked at Mrs. Sun. "Third Aunt, you and your maternal uncle’s son went to sell vegetables on the Flowers family’s territory. What’s that about?"
"What? When did I ever sell vegetables on the Flowers family’s land with my maternal uncle’s son? A Li, you can’t just slander me!" Mrs. Sun jumped up immediately, glaring and shouting, "I sell with my husband’s son. If you don’t believe me, ask your Third Uncle!"
Su Sanyun nodded quickly, rushing to back Mrs. Sun: "A Li, yes, your Third Aunt sells with me and Shirong. To sell quickly, the three of us divided our own plot into three parts, each selling in one section. Your Third Aunt sells on our plot, she hasn’t gone anywhere else."
Seeing Su Sanyun vouch for her, Mrs. Sun hurriedly said, "Right, right, A Li, see, your Third Uncle spoke up. He’s an honest man who wouldn’t lie. He’s testified for me, how can you not believe?"
Su Li just smiled, clearly not believing a word.
Mrs. Sun suddenly got angry, suspecting the Flowers couple had complained. She immediately cursed them half to death in her mind, thinking, "Those shameless two actually dared to tattle on me? Do they think I’m a pushover?"
Then Mrs. Sun immediately jumped up, aggressively confronting Su Li: "A Li, I’m your real Third Aunt. How can you doubt me like this? Did you hear some rumor, or did someone badmouth me to you? Hey, A Li, a few days ago I did have a little argument with Aunt Hua. I lost my temper and scolded her, but who knew she’d hold a grudge and make up this lie to harm me? A Li, you absolutely can’t believe it!"
