Looking for a Beating

"Found you!"

Suddenly, a faint trace of mockery appeared at the corner of Ian Song’s mouth. His gaze swept over the scene: on the War God Squad’s side, they were already working with the eight Immortal‑Dao Alliance disciples to pen in the remaining two hundred or so Demonic Beasts. It wouldn’t be long before this group of beasts was dealt with.

Two kilometers away stood a huge dead tree.

The dead tree was connected to a burrow, and at this moment, inside the pitch-black hole, a pair of glowing green eyes flickered.

The owner of those eyes was a giant silver rat about the size of a calf—the true mastermind behind this beast tide.

A few days earlier, while out hunting, it had discovered a group of Immortal‑Dao Alliance disciples collecting Spirit Medicines and slaying Demonic Beasts.

Even though it had reached late Foundation Establishment, it still couldn’t shake its deeply ingrained nature—timid and afraid of death.

So, it secretly followed the group of disciples and discovered the location of the base.

Demonic Beasts are naturally drawn to human flesh, and this forest hadn’t seen humans for who knows how many years. The sight of nearly a hundred people in the base made it all the more tempted.

But true to its nature, even though it craved the taste of human meat, it had no intention of attacking personally. Instead, it drove all the low‑rank Demonic Beasts in the surrounding forest to launch a surprise night raid on the base.

If Ian Song hadn’t been there, its plan for the night raid would definitely have succeeded.

But Ian just happened to rush back from a Fictional World today.

After waiting in the burrow for about fifteen minutes, it figured things should be about done. It had even ordered those Demonic Beasts not to sneak any bites after killing the humans.

But when it comes to food, Demonic Beasts are ruled more by instinct than reason, so they might not fully obey.

So it crawled out of the burrow, cautiously sneaking toward the base.

When it was still two kilometers from the base, it suddenly stopped. Its powerful sense of smell picked up a heavy stench of blood—not human, but from the Demonic Beasts it had sent to attack the base.

It could tell that this thick, pungent scent was the blood of thousands of Demonic Beasts mixed together.

Its timid nature won out over its hunger for food.

It wouldn’t let itself take any risks, no matter how much tasty food lay just two kilometers away.

So, it turned and fled at top speed.
