Sherry Yuan paused for a moment, saying nothing.

"Uh, I just saw you here and wondered what you were doing," Mason Kerr said awkwardly, his eyes darting away, too shy to look at Sherry Yuan.

"Checking the escape routes," Sherry Yuan replied, expressionless.

"So, how's it going?"

"I've checked three routes. Each one is safe for leaving the venue."

"Oh... so, are you free tonight?"

"Is there something you need, Mason?" Sherry Yuan asked, confused.

"I just... wanted to invite you to dinner," Mason Kerr said, blushing.

Sherry Yuan was a little surprised.

Dinner?

She almost never ate a proper meal.

As a bodyguard, she usually grabbed food on the go, sometimes eating while running. She barely had time to sit down for a meal.

Only after joining the Yin Family did she have time to sit down for meals, but even then, it was just sitting and eating.

She never went to a restaurant and ate seriously like other people.

"I don't mean anything by it. I just saw how hard you've been working for Yina lately, and wanted to thank you," Mason Kerr hurriedly explained.

"It's my job," Sherry Yuan nodded knowingly. "No need to thank me."

"No, I... I just want to have a meal with you," Mason Kerr said urgently. "That's all, really... I..."

Mason Kerr started to stumble over his words.

After a moment, Sherry Yuan finally said, "I need to protect Miss Yin."

"Yina's got plenty of bodyguards. One less won't matter. Besides, who'd be crazy enough to go after her in Newport? And Yina can handle herself," Mason Kerr said. "Thirteen, I just want someone to eat with."

Sherry Yuan paused and said, "I'll ask Miss Yin for permission first."

"I'll do it for you. Let me ask," Mason Kerr said, thrilled that Sherry hadn't refused. He ran off.

Sherry Yuan watched Mason Kerr's back, unable to say a word for a while.

She didn't really understand why Mason Kerr wanted to invite her to dinner.

Sherry Yuan was a little older than Mia Gu—she'd be twenty-seven this year.

Mason Kerr was only twenty.

To Sherry Yuan, Mason Kerr was just a younger brother—a quirky one at that.

Well, quirky like her.

Back at his seat, Mason Kerr said to Yina Yin, "Yina, can I borrow someone from you?"

"Sure, who? What for?" Yina Yin replied directly.

"Sherry Yuan. I want to take her out to dinner," Mason Kerr explained. "Just to thank her for helping me out the other day."

Yina Yin nodded, not even asking what help it was. "So you're not staying for the concert?"

"No," Mason Kerr replied with a smile. "We'll meet you outside when you're done."

"Alright, go ahead. Be careful," Yina Yin said, waving her hand nonchalantly.

"Thanks!" Mason Kerr darted out, then stood before Sherry Yuan and said, "Yina said yes. She told you to take a good break."

"Alright," Sherry Yuan nodded. She always took her boss's orders seriously.

"Let's go somewhere quieter. It's too noisy here," Mason Kerr said, glancing back at the deafening crowd. "It's better to eat in peace."

"Alright," Sherry Yuan replied calmly.

Even eating was a task.

She had to complete it well.
