Preparing for the Tropical Storm

1/4/2026

Cecilia Gu was utterly baffled. "Why would you say something like that? We're all going to be fine—no one is dying here!"

Earl Field sneered at Cecilia. "You want to sneak over and rescue the hostages? Do you really think Hans will let you succeed?"

Cecilia bit back, "We won't get you involved."

"Do you really believe that yourself?" Earl Field continued his mocking gaze. "We're all in this together now—your actions will eventually drag me down too."

Cecilia was overcome with guilt, unable to refute the truth.

But Grandpa Mo had to be rescued, no matter what!

As long as she could stall Captain Hans until Mo Zixin arrived, they could break in and save everyone.

Hans couldn't die—if he escaped, he'd only direct his vengeance at someone else.

"I'm sorry," Cecilia said through gritted teeth. "You... Or maybe you should just announce you have nothing to do with us..."

Even Cecilia herself couldn't finish the sentence.

Miles Gu was her heir—and Earl Field's. She knew how hollow and ironic her words sounded.

Because of Miles, the Yin Family, the Yun Family, and the Field Family were all entangled—impossible to separate.

"I... I..." Cecilia stammered, not knowing what else to say.

Earl Field sighed and gently patted Cecilia's shoulder. "Forget it, I'm not here to blame you. If I die fighting for you, so be it. Miles and Ethan are outside digging traps—be careful when you head out. Miles inherited the Yun Family's talent for medicine and got some poison from Jiro Hirayama. They're making arrows right now. Don't get caught in the crossfire."

After saying this, Earl Field seemed to want to say more, but in the end he just let out a long sigh and walked away.

Cecilia watched Earl Field's tall, elegant figure disappear, left speechless and choked with emotion.

Thinking about it, she really was selfish.

She'd been so focused on saving Grandpa Mo, she'd ignored Earl Field entirely.

She really was a jerk!

She had to come up with a way to get the Field Family out of this mess.

But as long as Hans was alive, sooner or later he'd come after the Field Family.

But Hans absolutely couldn't die!

Otherwise, everyone would end up buried here!

What a headache!

Cecilia couldn't think of a better solution for now, so she went out to check on the kids—to see what they were up to.

They'd been huddled together, whispering since early dawn. Who knew what they were up to?

From what Earl Field said, these two were up to something big!

And Jiro Hirayama—did he really give poison to Ethan Yin to play with?

That little rascal—he'd better not cause any trouble!

Cecilia hurried outside. From a distance, she saw Ethan Yin and Miles Gu actually digging holes with their butts stuck in the air.

Before she even got close, Ethan's voice floated over: "Bro! Is this really going to work? Will they fall for it?"

Miles answered confidently, "I've already mapped out the route. They're very likely to take this path."

Ethan tilted his head. "But what if they don't?"

"Then we'll just set traps on the other paths too." Miles replied quietly. "Anyway, Dad's medicine is more than enough."

Cecilia's eyes widened. They were already calling him 'Dad'? That was fast!

Cecilia hurried over. "You little rascals, what are you up to?"

"Mom? Stop! Stand right there—don't move!" Both boys jumped up and yelled, "There's a trap ahead, don't come any closer!"

Cecilia immediately stopped, raising an eyebrow at her two sons. "Spill it—what are you doing?"

Ethan grinned, "Mom, Mom! My brother and I are making traps! We're real men—we have to protect you and Auntie!"

Miles nodded in agreement.
