Chapter 418: Councilor Weiss Takes Action

In this situation, how could Leon possibly tolerate Solan threatening the Bone Plane?

If Solan leaked the news about the Bone Plane—even with Leon in possession of the Death Tome—he'd still be harassed endlessly...

Just look at Mercury Tower.

Back then, the Sungold Plane only let slip a rumor about possessing an Abyssal Evil Dragon corpse, and just like that, the Black Tower set its sights on them.

In the end, Mercury Tower was forced to hand over an Abyssal Evil Dragon's eyeball.

If word got out about the Bone Plane...

That's why Solan has to die!

Yes, this is murder to silence him.

Not to mention, the Rog Merlin Shipwreck was orchestrated entirely by Solan Monty...

"Grudges? Sure, there's plenty of those. Your father, Roger Merlin, was no exception. If he'd agreed to sell me that old manor back then, maybe the shipwreck never would've happened. Ha..."

Solan Monty's face twisted completely, his snake-like eyes locked onto Leon. He was convinced that before long, the Merlin Ancestral Manor in Thousand Sails City would be his—and Matthew Merlin would die just like his unlucky father...

But then, he sensed the astonishing surge of magical power from Matthew Merlin.

Still, what's there to fear? Just a mere second-tier Magus...

Leon said nothing, but behind his head, a moon rose, radiating dazzling light. One red and one blue gem pulsed with intense magical energy.

As mana surged into the moon-like disc, it instantly erupted with hundreds—thousands—of spells: ice spikes, hurricanes, fire arrows, wind blades, spears of flame, spears of frost... It was like an entire mage battalion casting in perfect unison, every spell targeting Solan Monty!

An endless torrent of spells became a flood, crashing forward...

The moment the Arcane Wheel appeared, to be honest, Solan Monty's face went pale. Every one of those low-level spells packed the punch of a Magus—hundreds, thousands of them, all at once. Just thinking about it was terrifying. Damn, that's definitely an Essence Relic. It has to be!

Solan Monty cursed inwardly, but his reaction was quick—he fluidly raised an Elemental Shield, a Rune Shield, a Mana Shield, and, sensing it still wasn't enough, swung his staff to conjure three ice walls in front of him. The whole casting process took less than a second. That alone showed Solan Monty was far stronger than your average second-tier Title Magus...

Yet those three ice walls shattered instantly under the spell flood—crack!—followed by the Mana Shield, which broke as well, and the Rune Shield, which lasted barely a second before crumbling. Right then, Solan Monty could hear his own heartbeat; he was down to a single Elemental Shield...

This was the strongest defensive spell a Title Magus could muster!

But to Leon, it was hardly worth mentioning. Back when he was a ninth-tier Archmage, a single Fireburst could shatter even Fran's Elemental Shield.

Solan Monty might be stronger than Fran, but only a bit.

Solan Monty stared in panic at the fading Elemental Shield, barely able to believe it was real. Matthew Merlin was only a second-tier Magus, yet he wielded such terrifying power.

Suddenly, fear crept in—maybe even regret...

A nightmare sound—crack!—rang out. Solan Monty's face went ghostly pale. The instant the Elemental Shield broke, a dozen low-level spells screamed toward him, smashing into his body. The force sent Solan Monty flying, slamming him hard into the ground.

The defensive spells he usually kept on himself were useless, unable to withstand such raw power. And after that crash, Solan Monty felt like his whole body had fallen apart, nearly losing consciousness.

But the young mage didn't give him the chance to black out...

At that moment, the young mage strode calmly over. A ball of blazing fire floated in midair. Just sensing it, Solan Monty nearly died of fright—because that... that was yet another Essence Relic.

"Stop! Stop! Matthew Merlin, if you do this, you'll be making an enemy of the entire Black Tower! If you become a Black Tower enemy, there'll be no good end for you..."

Solan Monty, sprawled on the ground and barely able to move, was ghostly pale, screaming himself hoarse. But... the young mage just smiled at him, and that fire—packing the power of an Essence Relic—rushed straight for his head.

Getting hit by that kind of terrifying flame—even for a second—would mean death...

"You can't just mess with the Black Tower's people, kid. You're going too far..." Suddenly, a cold voice rang out from the sky. At the same time, a gust of wind wrapped around Solan Monty, blocking the upper-tier magical flame sprite that was charging toward him, leaving him unharmed.

Boom!

Without warning, explosions erupted around Leon, each blast powerful. Just three of them nearly shattered his Mana Shield. A red and a white shield—fire and ice—appeared, and with precise control, Leon managed to block a few more blasts. These unpredictable, invisible attacks could drive anyone mad. If it were a fifth-tier Title Magus in his place, they'd be even worse off than Leon.

"Kid, your grudge with Solan Monty is none of my business, and I won't interfere. But to go that far against a Black Tower mage—just that act alone is almost unforgivable..." The ethereal voice sounded again, with a hint of surprise, clearly taken aback by Leon's strength. Even under attack, the young mage remained so calm—and he was only a second-tier Magus...

A monster like this—if the Black Tower can't recruit him, then he has to die!

"Weiss?"

The moment he heard the voice, Leon knew—he'd been too slow...

Councilor Weiss had made his move...
