The Art of the Pill

2/14/2026

The furnace in front of Evan Lin was the same size as the ones Celine Lin and Alex Fu used.

Normally, when Evan Lin refines Nourishing Spirit Pills, he doesn't even need a furnace—he can just use fire itself to refine all the herbs directly.

But this time, to let Alex Fu, Celine Lin, and Warren Wu learn something, he chose to use a furnace they could all handle.

"Start the fire."

With a thought, Evan Lin made flames rise beneath the furnace.

"Before, you only refined one batch of pills for each set of herbs."

"This time, I'm teaching you how to split your focus, control the fire, and refine multiple pills in a single furnace."

"Begin."

Evan Lin spoke softly.

The three sat upright in front of him, their eyes fixed on Evan Lin's hands without blinking.

To the three observers, Evan Lin's actions looked completely ordinary—just routine movements, nothing complicated, and not requiring much effort. The most crucial thing was his control over the fire.

Besides that, Evan also taught them the key points for refining multiple different herbs at the same time in a single furnace.

"With this method, both the success rate and efficiency of pill refining can be massively improved."

Warren Wu was stunned, full of admiration and emotion.

"But this technique is extremely demanding on your mental strength. If you mess up, you'll blow up the furnace completely. Still, it's the only way to quickly boost your pill-refining skills."

Alex Fu spoke up in a deep voice, his eyes shining with excitement—he felt like he'd just had a sudden moment of enlightenment.

Evan Lin didn't move fast; every step came with a bit of explanation.

What used to be complex and chaotic—where one mistake meant total failure—now, thanks to Evan's clear, step-by-step explanations, Celine Lin, Alex Fu, and Warren Wu finally got it.

Many details they'd never noticed before were broken down by Evan Lin, just like a master dissecting an ox—making everything crystal clear.

"When refining pills, your eyes must be sharp, your hands steady, and your heart calm."

Evan Lin controlled the fire, not using his fire-type spirit or any fancy tricks—just finishing this batch of pills in the most ordinary way.

Refining medicine, forming pills.

The furnace lid popped open.

The thick medicinal fragrance made Warren Wu, Celine Lin, and Alex Fu feel a little dazed and intoxicated.

"For this batch, I used five sets of Nourishing Spirit Pill herbs and refined twenty-five pills."

With a wave of Evan’s hand, twenty-five Nourishing Spirit Pills, glowing with a soft light, lined up in the air right in front of him.

They floated gently, their shine far outclassing anything Celine Lin or the others had ever made.

"With a furnace this size, you can try five sets of herbs at once. Start with two sets for practice, and next time I come back, I hope you’ll surprise me."

Evan swept his hand, collecting all the pills.

"Thank you, Young Lord! I won’t let you down!" Warren Wu promised.

Celine Lin was overjoyed—just one batch of pills had taught her more than hundreds of her own trial-and-error attempts.

"Thank you."

Alex Fu also stood up at this moment, bowing slightly to Evan Lin.

His expression was complicated; every time he watched Master Lin from Seacrest refine pills, he was left even more impressed.

Before this, Alex had thought Master Lin from Seacrest just relied on fancy pillcraft methods and strong cultivation to make everything look easy.

But what he’d just seen—no special techniques, no secret arts, just the simplest pill-refining method—had produced pills way beyond anything he’d imagined.

Just from this alone, his view of Master Lin from Seacrest was overturned once again.

"You two can leave now."

Evan waved his hand.

Celine Lin and Alex Fu left, leaving only Evan Lin and Warren Wu in the courtyard.

Now, only Evan Lin and Warren Wu were left in the courtyard.

"I’ll teach you the Pillcraft Method personally."

Evan looked at Warren Wu. "The Pillcraft Method is an alchemy technique I stumbled upon years ago. Honestly, it’s not some miracle skill."

Evan spoke in a calm tone.

Hearing this, Warren Wu gave an awkward smile. "Young Lord, this pill method is so precious—wouldn’t it be wasted on me?"

He was modest, admitting, "You know my talent... Even after your last guidance, I’m still not as good as Celine Lin or Alex Fu, and I’m getting up there in years."

At this point, Warren Wu couldn’t help but sigh.

Of course, he wished he could achieve something in alchemy, but he was already old.

Age was a fact.

Sometimes, Warren Wu regretted most that he hadn’t met Evan Lin sooner.

"For those with top-tier pill-refining talent, the Pillcraft Method is just icing on the cake—so it wouldn’t do much for them."

Evan shook his head. "But there’s one thing special about the Pillcraft Method: it lets people who couldn’t refine pills before become able to, and those who failed to make pills succeed."

"Simply put, it’s a technique to improve your pill-refining aptitude."

"You might be older, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go further. If there’s a chance, I’ll make you some longevity pills in the future."

"But the road of pill refining is tough, and cultivating the Pillcraft Method is even more painful. Whether you learn it or not is up to you—think it over."

Evan’s tone was calm.

Sitting there, Warren Wu was visibly moved. He took a deep breath; his old face suddenly became solemn.

"Thank you for not giving up on me, Young Lord! I won’t say much else—just let me try!"

"If I really improve, I’ll be able to do even more for you."

"Young Lord’s kindness—I’ll never forget it as long as I live!"

Warren Wu bowed his head and gave Evan Lin three deep kowtows without a shred of hesitation.

His attitude was truly sincere.

"Alright."

Evan nodded.

After Evan passed the Pillcraft Method to Warren Wu, the night was already deep.

"Go back and digest what you’ve learned. How far you get depends on you."

"Also, bring out all the remaining Nourishing Spirit Pill herbs."

"Tonight’s moonlight is perfect for pill refining—makes my trip back worthwhile."

As soon as Evan finished speaking, Warren Wu quickly had all the aged herbs from the storeroom brought out.

Excluding the herbs reserved for the other alchemists, over a thousand full sets were laid out in the courtyard.

The medicinal fragrance was intense.

Evan rose and looked up at the sky.

Clouds drifted in, blocking the moon, but Evan waved his sleeve, sending a burst of qi like a wild wind—clearing the clouds and revealing the moon.

"Start the fire."

Evan stepped into the air; with him at the center, fire snakes shot out, more than a hundred, wrapping around every pile of herbs.
