Mr. Charles Visits Savory House

The curtain of the private suite was lifted, and the first thing Lily Evans saw was a pair of boots—white with black soles, subtle patterns, and silver trim. Looking up, she saw the person dressed in a simple outfit made of fine silver brocade, with plum blossoms embroidered in silver thread along the edges. A slender waist was cinched with a slightly wide sash.

Looking further up, the young woman appeared about fifteen or sixteen, with bright eyes, pearly teeth, a gentle smile, and cheeks like spring peaches. Her glossy black hair was swept up into a tidy bun at the back of her head—her delicate beauty carried a hint of decisiveness.

"So you must be Madam Evans?" The young woman entered with a bright smile, took Lily's hand and looked her up and down. "With such looks and bearing, you truly are extraordinary."

Lily was a little flustered by the sudden praise, but she quickly composed herself and returned the greeting with a smile.

Jean Zhao introduced herself, “I’m Jean Zhao, the owner of Savory House. I’ve heard so much about you, Madam Evans. I finally get to meet the famous lady behind all the delicious dishes.”

Lily Evans smiled, "You're too kind, Ms. Zhao. The dishes are nothing special, just some homestyle recipes."

Jean Zhao laughed, "You’re too modest! Mr. Baker can’t stop raving about your cooking. He says you’ve turned Savory House into the talk of the town."

Lily Evans smiled and replied, "I just want everyone to enjoy good food. If Savory House prospers, we all benefit."

Jean Zhao nodded, her eyes sparkling with admiration. "That’s why I admire you, Madam Evans. You think about everyone, not just yourself."

Lily Evans grinned, "If I only cared about myself, I’d be eating alone every day!" The two women burst into laughter, their voices ringing through the suite.

Mr. Charles stepped inside, his presence commanding attention. He greeted them warmly, "Ladies, I hope I’m not interrupting. Madam Evans, I’ve brought the contract for you to review."

They were close in age and hit it off instantly, feeling as if they were old friends reunited—almost wishing they'd met sooner.

The laughter drifted outside, where Mrs. Thompson and her group listened with growing suspicion. Mrs. Thompson’s eyes narrowed as she whispered, "Just wait—let’s see how Lily Evans tries to talk her way out of this!"

Outside, Mrs. Thompson led a group, hiding behind a pillar. Hearing the silvery laughter from inside, Mrs. Thompson covered her mouth smugly and whispered, “I’ve checked—Lily Evans is in there with Mr. Charles. Listen to that laughter! She must be up to something improper with the owner!”

Billy King, standing nearby, couldn’t help but feel nervous. He tugged at his sleeve, glancing anxiously at Mrs. Thompson.

Mrs. Thompson’s lips curled into a sly smile. She motioned for her group to stay quiet, determined to catch Lily Evans in the act.

Inside the suite, Lily Evans and Jean Zhao were chatting amiably, oblivious to the drama brewing outside.

Mr. Charles poured tea for everyone, his movements graceful and practiced. "Madam Evans, please take your time reviewing the contract. If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears."

Lily Evans glanced at the contract, her eyes sharp and discerning. She quickly spotted a few details and pointed them out to Mr. Charles.

Mr. Charles listened attentively, nodding with genuine respect. "Madam Evans, you truly have a keen eye for business. I’m impressed."

Jean Zhao smiled, "Madam Evans is famous for her sharp mind and generous heart. Working with her is always a pleasure."

Mrs. Thompson lunged out, grabbing Billy King by the collar and shouting at Lily Evans, "You shameless girl, sneaking around with the owner of Savory House! Let’s see how you explain yourself this time!"
