Trouble Stirred by Wine

2/14/2026

Second Young Master Fenn carried five full bottles and a half-opened one, while the guards behind him nearly had their tongues dragging on the floor, their eyes shining as they watched him.

Back at his own manor, Second Young Master Fenn couldn't wait to open a bottle of wine.

But seeing so many guards staring at him, Second Young Master Fenn smiled, "You want to drink?"

"Yes, Young Master. We've never had such good wine before. Let us have a taste," one bold guard spoke up.

Second Young Master Fenn chuckled, "Alright, fine. There's half a bottle left—I'll give it to you all."

The guard was overjoyed and quickly took the bottle. The others almost rushed forward, but the first guard protected it, saying, "Wait, we'll split it evenly. Don't be hasty."

Everyone agreed and didn't fight, then said goodbye to Second Young Master Fenn. Seeing them go, he laughed, "Go on, go on."

Once they left, Second Young Master Fenn took out a fine cup and slowly savored the wine, each sip making him feel as if he were entering a dreamlike illusion.

Inside the illusion, Second Young Master Fenn could do whatever he wished. When the wine finally faded from his mouth, he clicked his tongue, "This is truly fine wine. What kind of tavern is this—how do they have such amazing wine?"

As for Second Young Master Fenn's guards, they hid away somewhere, dividing up the wine. Its fragrance drifted around them.

Soon, many people were drawn to Second Young Master Fenn's manor.

"What's going on over there?" Third Young Master Feng was walking in the estate with Miles Fenn when he noticed the crowd at Second Young Master's gate and asked suspiciously.

"No idea, let's check it out." Miles Fenn was puzzled too. Third Young Master Feng nodded, and the two walked over. As they got close, a fragrant aroma wafted toward them.

"Is that the smell of wine?" Third Young Master Feng wondered aloud.

Miles Fenn's expression turned odd too, because the wine's scent was so tempting that just smelling it made you want to get closer and experience it.

When the crowd saw Third Young Master Feng and Miles Fenn approaching, they quickly scattered. The ones in front didn't react in time and were dragged away by their companions.

"Why are you dragging me? I'm just enjoying the wine's aroma!" protested one of the guards, leaving everyone exchanging awkward glances.

Seeing the looks on everyone's faces, the guard finally snapped out of it. Noticing Third Young Master Feng and Miles Fenn behind him, he hurriedly slunk off to the side.

What greeted Third Young Master Feng was the sight of Second Young Master's men all holding cups, licking at the last drops—yes, actually licking the cups—like they were afraid to waste even a drop of wine.

"Is it really that good?" Third Young Master Feng muttered, seeing these men so distracted by wine instead of doing their jobs.

Hearing this, Second Young Master's men quickly swallowed the wine in their mouths and stayed silent.

"Is that all the backbone you have?" Third Young Master Feng was nearly furious with them.

A guard, reluctantly gulping down the wine, said, "Third Young Master, you don't know—the charm of this wine is immense."

"How immense? Is it so good you can't help yourself?" Third Young Master Feng already had a bias against Second Young Master, so he immediately scolded the guards for showing off with their drinking.

The guards didn't dare make a sound—they knew Third Young Master's status. Just then, a voice came from inside a room: "Who's disturbing my drinking?"

Hearing this, Third Young Master Feng's face almost turned black with anger. He stormed off with Miles Fenn toward Second Young Master's room.

They found Second Young Master Fenn flushed but energetic, smiling at the two of them, "You're here?"

"You—" Third Young Master Feng saw a toppled bottle and another still upright in front of Second Young Master, his anger rising.

"Don't be mad, little brother. This really is fine wine—better than anything we've had before. If you don't believe me, I'll pour you a cup. Don't underestimate it: it's one million top-grade Spirit Crystal Ore per bottle, and it's already sold out." Second Young Master Fenn boasted.

Third Young Master Feng had a grudge with Second Young Master, so there was no way he'd drink. Instead, Miles Fenn said, "I'll try it."

Second Young Master Fenn smiled, "Alright, Captain Feng, I'll pour you a cup."

So Second Young Master poured Miles Fenn a cup. Without hesitation, Miles drank it, and as soon as he did, he seemed possessed—frozen in place, unmoving.

Second Young Master Fenn laughed loudly, while Third Young Master's face turned sour.

"Don't just stand there, little brother. Come try it—you're guaranteed to be satisfied," Second Young Master Fenn said smugly.

Third Young Master Feng kept his composure, refusing to budge, until Miles Fenn finally woke up and said, "Second Young Master, where did you get this wine? I'll have to buy some myself."

That made Second Young Master Fenn very happy, while Third Young Master Feng cursed inwardly, "Damn it."

"I'll tell you—the wine comes from a newly opened tavern, but I bought out the last of their stock. Whether they have any left, I don't know," Second Young Master Fenn said with a laugh.

Miles Fenn gave an awkward smile, "Second Young Master, how much do you have left here?"

"Three bottles left. One for my father, one for my grandfather, and I'll keep the last one for myself," Second Young Master Fenn said with a smile.

Hearing this, Miles Fenn could only smile helplessly, "Guess I'll have to ask the tavern myself."

"If there are any more, be sure to bring me some. But I've heard there are only this many bottles," Second Young Master Fenn said with a smile.

Miles Fenn nodded, while Third Young Master Feng snorted and left, clearly losing face.

Second Young Master Fenn was overjoyed, "Fine wine, truly fine wine!"

"Second Young Master, you're amazing—even managed to make Third Young Master angry," one of his guards flattered after Third Young Master left.

Second Young Master Fenn enjoyed the praise, grinning, "Can't help it—the wine's temptation is just too strong."

"Young Master, those three bottles..." a guard said, and if it weren't Second Young Master, he'd have snatched them already.

Second Young Master Fenn glanced at the three bottles, "I'm saving these."

"Second Young Master, why don't we go back to the tavern? Maybe they've restocked," the guard said greedily.

"I was thinking the same. Let's go check again," Second Young Master Fenn laughed.

After returning to their own manor, Miles Fenn and Third Young Master Feng were a bit displeased. Third Young Master asked, "Captain Five, was the wine good?"

Third Young Master, I'm not lying—it was really good. Especially the moment you drink it, you see what you desire most, as if you're in an illusion." Miles Fenn replied awkwardly, realizing he had been a bit out of line earlier.

"Really that good?" Third Young Master Feng asked, eyes wide.

"Yes, it's true. It's really good. I don't even know where that tavern is, but I'd like to get some myself." Miles Fenn clicked his tongue.

Third Young Master Feng hadn't tasted it, but hearing everyone rave, he felt uncomfortable and even wanted to try it himself. He called his personal guard and ordered, "Go to the new tavern and buy their one-million-a-bottle fine wine."

Yes, Young Master," the guard replied.

Miles Fenn smiled, "Third Young Master, why didn't you try a cup earlier? You could have experienced it yourself."

Third Young Master Feng glared, "You think I'd ask him for it?"

Miles Fenn realized he'd said something he shouldn't, so he shut his mouth and continued to savor the wine's charm.

As for Evan Yang, he was busy in the tavern, acting like a manager. By night, only a few drinkers remained; everyone else had left to attend to their business. After all, the wine was expensive, and only the rich, powerful, or wandering cultivators who'd scraped together enough Spirit Crystal Ore could afford a cup.

Just as Evan Yang was muttering about why Second Young Master Fenn hadn't arrived yet, a guard walked in. The guard was Third Young Master's personal attendant, but Evan Yang mistook him for Second Young Master's.

The guard asked, "Do you have any of the fine wine for one million top-grade Spirit Crystal Ore?"

"Well, we did, but it's all sold out now," Evan Yang replied with a smile.

"Sold out? How does your tavern even operate? How can you be out of stock?" The guard recalled Third Young Master's instructions to secure the wine and grew angry, unable to explain its absence.

Evan Yang replied helplessly, "It's really gone. The few bottles we had were all bought by one person."

The guard knew exactly who bought them but refused to give up, thinking Evan Yang might be hiding a few bottles and prepared to use force.

Evan Yang didn't expect the guard to get violent. As he wondered what to do, laughter sounded from outside, "Isn't that Third Young Master's personal guard?"

The personal guard was startled when he saw who spoke, "Second Young Master!"

Evan Yang finally understood the situation—it was people from different sides. But he didn't care; as long as they were from the Fenn family, it was fine.

Second Young Master Fenn sneered, "Is this how you ask for wine?"

The personal guard knew about the relationship between Second and Third Young Masters; even a slight misstep could get him in trouble.

Second Young Master Fenn glanced at the personal guard, remembering Third Young Master's frustration earlier. In a good mood, he bypassed the guard and approached Evan Yang, smiling, "Shopkeeper, your wine today was excellent. Any left?"

"No, it's all gone," Evan Yang replied awkwardly.

"How can there be none left?" Second Young Master Fenn asked.

"When I brewed this wine, I didn't have enough ingredients, so I only made a little," Evan Yang said, regretting the lack of herbs back then.

Second Young Master Fenn heard it was brewed by Evan Yang and that there was a shortage of herbs, so he pretended to be calm, "To be honest, I'm the Second Young Master of the Fenn family. If you're short on ingredients, just tell me—I guarantee you'll have enough, but I want six shares."

Evan Yang secretly laughed but frowned, "Second Young Master? That might be troublesome. Brewing takes a thousand years before it can be opened."

"What? A thousand years?" Second Young Master Fenn was shocked.

"Yes, it's just a really good wine. I only took it out after aging for a thousand years," Evan Yang replied awkwardly.

Second Young Master Fenn thought about it, unable to forget the wine's charm, and said, "No problem. As long as you brew it, I want six shares. I'll provide all the ingredients."

"Really?" Evan Yang was surprised.

"Of course," Second Young Master Fenn replied with a smile.

But Evan Yang added, "Brewing this wine requires a very quiet place, and it can't be disturbed. Otherwise, any mishap could cause the wine to mutate."
