Lena Confronts Grace Wan

Chloe tossed another log onto the fire and said, "Mother, now that she's carrying the Zhu family's eldest grandson, let's not send her back to work. Why not let her stay here and rest for a while, and wait for Father to return before deciding anything?"

"Mm, that's fine too." Lena nodded. "Xichun, I have a doctor here and food suitable for expectant mothers. Why don't you stay here for a while and take care of yourself?"

"Thank you, Madam!" Xichun was so grateful that she knelt down in tears.

Just then, a maid entered to announce, "Madam, Young Miss, Aunt Wan requests an audience."

"Let her in," Lena said.

With that, Grace Wan entered.

She came in grandly with quite a few people, including two guards.

To be honest, in her previous life, Chloe had never seen what it was like when her mother and Grace Wan confronted each other.

Her mother had been bedridden for years and rarely left her room.

Her father never allowed Grace Wan to pay respects, so their chances to meet were few and far between.

Chloe always thought that if her mother ever had to face Grace Wan head-on, she’d definitely be crushed.

But the reality was—

"Madam." Grace Wan greeted her with a bow, beaming. "You look much better today!"

Lena gave her a warm, dazzling smile. "Thank you for sending the Snow Ginseng. It was very thoughtful of you."

Lena was genuinely grateful to Grace Wan.

Because she took on responsibilities Lena herself should have handled.

Like managing all the affairs of the Prime Minister’s Residence.

And raising the children.

Grace Wan smiled calmly. "Madam, it’s nothing at all. As long as you’re getting better, what’s a little Snow Ginseng?"

After a pause, she added, "Madam, I heard from Steward Jia that you’re keeping Sierra here?"

"Yes. Chloe told me she was pregnant, so I called her over and asked. She said it’s Kevin Zhuo’s child." Lena’s smile was genuine. "That’s our eldest grandson—we can’t take it lightly. So I let her stay in Jade Hall to rest and nurture the baby. Mainly, it’s convenient here for doctors and food."

Her long illness made her particular about food, so preparing meals for a pregnant woman was just right.

Jade Hall also had a dedicated doctor on standby at all times.

Grace Wan kept smiling and sighed, "Madam, you’re so kind! But—Kevin Zhuo says that’s not his child!"

"Really?" Lena’s face changed. "It’s not his child?"

"Of course not!" Grace Wan frowned. "That girl doesn’t even know whose bastard she’s carrying, and she’s trying to latch onto Kevin Zhuo! If not for the Dowager’s blessing pouch, I’d have had her beaten to death already!"

"Second Madam!" Sierra suddenly rushed in from behind, dropping to her knees before them. "Second Madam, I swear on heaven and earth, this baby really is Second Young Master’s!"

"You little slut, how dare you talk back!" Grace Wan snarled, then ordered the two guards she’d brought, "Take her away! How dare she make a scene in Madam’s place—she must think she’s clever!"

"Yes, ma’am!" The two guards moved in menacingly to drag Sierra away.

"Wait." Lena waved a gentle hand at the guards.

Her voice was soft, gentle, and pleasant—completely different from Grace Wan’s forceful tone.

Yet the two guards somehow couldn’t resist her and stopped, staring at her.

"Aunt Wan, don’t scare her," Lena said with genuine concern. "She’s just a young girl, unmarried and pregnant—she’s already frightened. If you keep this up, you’ll terrify her even more."
