We Can't Just Abandon Her

Grace Wan's face twitched. "Madam, you are too kind! But for such a lowly servant, it's not worth it! After what she's done, she should be sent away. Otherwise, who knows what kind of rumors people will spread about our Prime Minister's Residence!"

"No matter what," Lena said, "we must first figure out whether the child she’s carrying is really Kenneth Lawrence’s."

"Figure it out? How?" Grace Wan asked. "That bastard child—do you really want her to give birth, then use a Bloodline Stone to check?"

"No need to wait for the birth," Lena replied. "Dr. Benjamin Quinn has a special Bloodline Stone. With the mother’s blood and the father’s, he can test it right away."

Grace Wan’s expression changed. Suddenly, she remembered hearing something about this recently.

It was said that Lena’s attending physician, Dr. Benjamin Quinn, had obtained a Bloodline Stone from the Vermilion Kingdom, which could directly test the paternity of an unborn child.

Grace Wan did her best to hide her anger and asked, "Madam, you’ve never meddled in household affairs before. Why are you so determined to protect her now?"

"Because she might be carrying the Prime Minister’s first grandson!" Lena said.

Though not her own grandson, he would still be the Prime Minister’s, and Lena would cherish him all the same.

Grace Wan shot Sierra a sideways glance. "She’s just a lowly maid. How could she possibly be worthy of bearing the Prime Minister’s first grandson?"

"But the child already exists!" Lena said. "We can’t just abandon it, can we?"

Of course, they couldn’t keep it!

But Grace Wan didn’t dare say such things out loud.

If the Prime Minister heard, her twenty years of effort building a reputation for kindness and virtue would be ruined in an instant.

She changed her approach. "Madam, do you realize that if rumors spread about Kenneth Lawrence having a child with a maid, his reputation will suffer and it could ruin his marriage prospects?" Grace Wan said. "You’re his legal mother—you wouldn’t want that for him, would you?"

Lena thought for a moment and said, "Taking your sister’s maid as a concubine isn’t ideal, but in wealthy families, it’s actually quite common and doesn’t cause much of a stir. On the other hand, if he abandons Sierra after getting her pregnant, the damage to Kenneth and the whole Zhu Family’s reputation would be much worse."

Lena was simply stating the facts.

But things weren’t so simple when it came to the princess.

If Kenneth Lawrence wanted to marry the princess, he couldn’t have this kind of scandal!

But talk of "wanting to marry the princess" was, of course, not something you could say out loud.

Grace Wan took a deep breath, moved her lips, and clenched her fists, but couldn’t find anything to refute Lena’s words.

"Aunt Wan, at this point, we can only test the child’s bloodline and then decide what to do," Lena said. "Why not let her keep the pregnancy for now and wait for the Prime Minister to return? What do you think?"

Grace Wan said nothing.

"Also, Kenneth Lawrence is the Prime Minister’s only son. You really should pay more attention to him! In the future, you must teach him well—if he likes someone, let him take her as a concubine, but he mustn’t act so recklessly again," Lena added.

Veins bulged on Grace Wan’s forehead, but out of concern for the Prime Minister and Chloe Zhu, she didn’t lose her temper. She just nodded and swallowed her pride. "Madam, you are right. I haven’t done well enough."

"Aunt Wan, I know you work very hard," Lena said, her eyes full of gratitude. "You manage the household and raise the children; it’s no wonder you’re exhausted. Why not let the Prime Minister take on two more concubines to help you out—"

"No need!" Grace Wan suddenly stood up. "Madam, please don’t bring this up again!"

She’d brought up this topic more than once before.
