Dr. Rowan Lin set down the pulse case in his hands, looked at Quentin Lin, walked over and gently patted Quentin's head, sighing, "Quentin, as a healer, you must always have a heart to save others. Seeing Lucy Lou's suffering and feeling compassion, wanting to relieve her pain, proves you possess the benevolence of a true doctor. I am deeply comforted. Well then, once I restore the formula for this medicine, I will do my utmost to remove the poison from Lucy Lou's body and extend her life as much as possible."

Quentin Lin, delighted by his father's promise, grabbed Dr. Rowan Lin's sleeve excitedly. "Thank you, Father! I'll study more medical books and help you restore the formula as quickly as possible!"

After speaking, Quentin Lin darted to the bookshelf, picked out a medical book, sat properly at the desk, and began reading intently.

At just five years old, his serious and focused demeanor would put even adults to shame.

Watching his son's maturity, Dr. Rowan Lin revealed a look of comfort, lowered his head and continued studying the pulse case. Outwardly, he appeared calm and collected, but inside, his emotions surged like a storm.

These days, Dr. Rowan Lin had been immersed in researching the formula for the False Death Elixir, and had also sent people to reinvestigate the disappearance of Senior Brother Lin all those years ago.

Thanks to the renewed investigation, Dr. Rowan Lin had found new clues.

First, it seemed that Senior Brother Lin had close ties with the royal palace back then. Dr. Rowan Lin suspected he was secretly working for a member of the royal family—most likely Emperor William Jin, the ruler of the Jin Dynasty twenty years ago.

Second, Senior Brother Lin disappeared right around the time of Emperor William Jin's demise. Although the exact date of his disappearance couldn't be determined after so many years, Dr. Rowan Lin was certain it happened during the period when Emperor William Jin passed away.

Third, the official story was that Emperor William Jin died of illness. Yet, at the time, the Previous Medical Sage Lin—Dr. Rowan Lin's father—was never summoned to the palace to treat him. This left two possibilities: either Emperor William Jin suffered an extremely acute illness that led to his death too quickly for the Lin family to intervene, or perhaps... his death wasn't due to illness at all, which is why the Lin family wasn't called!

As Dr. Rowan Lin pondered this, a sudden chill ran through his body, as though he'd glimpsed some terrifying possibility...

If Emperor William Jin didn't die of illness, then...

Suddenly, the face of Emperor Jin Xuan flashed through Dr. Rowan Lin's mind. The current emperor, shrewd, reserved, and cunning, had inherited the throne from his elder brother, Emperor William Jin. Though he emerged victorious from the brutal Nine Dragons Succession Struggle, he bore no reputation for bloodthirstiness—in fact, his name was surprisingly untarnished. By contrast, the late Emperor William Jin, even after death, was frequently criticized for his ruthless fratricide...

Dr. Rowan Lin suddenly felt a headache coming on. He massaged his brow, convinced that the False Death Elixir in Lucy Lou's body, Senior Brother Lin's sudden disappearance, and Emperor William Jin's demise were all connected in some way. Yet, the secret remained elusive, leaving him deeply troubled.

No matter what, finding Senior Brother Lin had been Dr. Rowan Lin's unresolved wish for the past twenty years. Now that he finally had a clue, he was determined to pursue it to the end. Whether Senior Brother Lin was alive or dead, he had to uncover the truth—why did Senior Brother Lin abandon the Lin family and him, his junior, without a word all those years ago?
