How much did he drink, anyway?
Lily Bai struggled to get up and finally managed it. She said, "Fine, fine, I won’t ask about your reverse scale anymore! Let me ask you this—who do you like more, Lucia Lu or Lily Bai?"
Sean Shaw blinked, then turned over and pretended to sleep, his breathing slow and even.
No way he’s answering a landmine question like that!
He’s not stupid, you know.
Lily Bai looked at the back of his head and couldn’t help but laugh.
But after laughing, she suddenly felt guilty.
That sleepless night in her previous life, tossing and turning until dawn, felt like just yesterday.
Back then, what was really on her mind about him?
If only she’d let him finish what he wanted to say that night—maybe everything that happened afterward could’ve been avoided…
No!
Even if she hadn’t been there, the Celestial Emperor probably would’ve fallen into the wormhole anyway.
Once the Celestial Emperor disappeared, the Celestial Empress would’ve come after both her and Sean Shaw, no doubt about it.
If not for that excuse, she’d have found another… In the end, naïve as they were, they were bound to get caught in her claws sooner or later.
Lily Bai’s gaze gradually hardened.
She stood quietly for a moment, then fetched a quilt and tucked it over Sean Shaw.
...
The next day, they said goodbye to High God Quentin Lian and the others, then returned to the Eastlore Kingdom.
Hovering over Eastlore Kingdom, Lily Bai opened her Heaven’s Eye and surveyed the land for a long time, lost in thought and silent.
"What did you see? Is there still dark qi?" Sean Shaw asked beside her.
Lily Bai glanced at him, then suddenly grinned and asked, "You sober yet?"
Sean Shaw: "I wasn’t drunk."
"Ha! Not drunk, huh?" Lily Bai raised an eyebrow. "Do you know what you said to me last night?"
"What did I say?"
"You said… you really like me." Lily Bai batted her big clear eyes at him.
Sean Shaw’s face was blank. "Impossible."
"Why impossible? What, you don’t like me?"
Sean Shaw turned his head toward the Royal Palace. "So, what’s the situation?"
Lily Bai said, "There’s danger everywhere, but we’ve got a trump card, so it’s not a big deal." "What trump card?"
"The guest in your Life-pouch, of course!" Lily Bai said. "He’s still alive, right?"
"Yeah."
"They’ll definitely use an Ancestral Locator Spell to track him down, so stop bringing trouble to my doorstep and get back in the Tribulation Storm Array, pronto." Lily Bai said, "You and I are still enemies, you know!"
Sean Shaw’s face instantly darkened, his tone icy: "And you?"
Where are you going? Who are you meeting? Who else do you need to see? Am I somehow inconvenient for you?
"Me… If my guess is right…" Lily Bai looked toward the entrance of Drake Abyss. "Someone should be coming to arrest me any minute now!"
Sean Shaw’s eyes flickered.
"But don’t worry, it’ll look scary but I’ll be fine—I promise I’ll come back safe!" Lily Bai said with total confidence.
"No way."
"C’mon, you’ve got to trust a Rune Master’s judgment!"
"No! You’re coming with me." He grabbed her hand—his palm was actually slick with cold sweat.
He couldn’t let her repeat the nightmare of walking into Drake Abyss alone ever again.
"If I go with you, can my Father Emperor and Mother Empress go too? If they go with you, can the thousands of White Clan members go? Even if the whole White Clan goes, can the entire Eastlore Kingdom go?" Lily Bai said, "Sean Shaw, I can’t leave."
"Then I’ll stay with you."
"You can’t stay with me until your wanted status is cleared." Lily Bai said, "Once we reach the Mirror of Truth, nothing will stay hidden."
Sean Shaw’s eyes dimmed as he slowly let go of her hand.
But Lily Bai grabbed his hand back and said, "I’ll come find you soon. Take Prince Asher Xiao into the Tribulation Storm Array, then send some of his things back to Drake Abyss. Once his stuff returns to the dragon heartland, I’ll be able to get myself out of whatever mess they throw at me."
