Joy in the Thunderstorm

1/5/2026

Seeing all this go down, Ryan Ling couldn’t help but jump to his feet. Angie Chen might be a pain in the ass, but Sophie Su had made him promise to look after her—if anything happened, he’d never hear the end of it. Plus, that Incense Master wasn’t some random scrub; the guy was almost at orange grandmaster level, and Angie definitely wasn’t on his level.

But just as Ryan was about to move, Angie suddenly let out a frosty little laugh. In a blink, she snatched a red-hot bead from the charcoal brazier and, with a flick of her wrist, shot it straight at the Incense Master. The poor guy didn’t even have time to react—the bead slammed right into his eye socket, popping his eyeball out like a grape.

The Incense Master howled in pain—but that was just the beginning. The bead exploded with a bang right inside his eye socket, blowing off half his face in a shower of blood and bone.

Even Ryan was left speechless. Damn, that hidden weapon was savage!

Instantly, all the other Azure Dragon Society goons froze. Angie was now juggling five more of those beads, each one flickering with eerie green ghostfire—like something straight out of a horror game.

"Th-Those are Ghostfire Beads! If one hits you, you’re either dead or crippled, and if you somehow survive, it’ll burn inside you like hell—every damn day!"

"This chick is nuts! I heard Ghostfire Beads are impossible to control—how the hell is she tossing them around like a pro?"

"So what now? Do we risk it and try to save him?"

Dead silence...

"Still itching to die, huh? If any of you want to test me, I’ll stuff one of these beads right down your throat." Angie glared at the Azure Dragon Society crew, totally unfazed.

In a flash, all those fired-up Azure Dragon Society thugs suddenly scrambled backwards.

Ryan felt a chill—these Ghostfire Beads were no joke. That flame was freaky, pure yin, impossible for normal people to handle. But Angie controlled them like it was nothing; must be that Yin-Maiden thing.

This Yin-Maiden stuff just keeps getting weirder!

Ryan finally relaxed and sat back down. Angie locked eyes on Yvonne Su—who was freaking out, her face a bloody mess. Yvonne had zero real martial skill; she’d always relied on the Pill Hall to bluff her way around. Now she stammered, “Miss Chen, I didn’t know you were here! I’ll leave right now!”

Yvonne tried to get up, but the second she moved, Angie Chen stomped her face right into the floor.

“Don’t go yet! We still have business to settle.” Angie gave Yvonne’s soft cheek a mocking pat.

“B-Business? What business?” Yvonne trembled all over.

“Wow, your memory sucks. Weren’t you trying to take over Su’s Pharmacy? And you even beat your own grandpa half to death. We should talk about that, right?” Angie replied, totally unfazed.

“No, no—I don’t want Su’s Pharmacy anymore! I’ll personally apologize to my grandpa, just please let me go!” Yvonne begged.

“No way. I don’t believe a word out of your filthy mouth. You need a real lesson—something to make you scared for life!” Angie reached straight for Yvonne’s chest.

“W-What do you want from me?” Yvonne Su was bawling now—she’d finally run into her worst nightmare.

“Why so scared? I’m not gonna kill you. I’m just deciding—should I blow up your face or your chest with a Ghostfire Bead?” Angie Chen frowned, weighing her options.

“No—please don’t! I’ll leave right now, I swear I’ll never come back to Harbor City! I’m begging you!” Yvonne broke down sobbing.

“Nope. You’ve smashed our door twice—I gotta return the favor. One bead for your face, one for your chest!” Angie whipped out two Ghostfire Beads and hurled them at Yvonne’s 'important parts'.

Screams and the sound of flesh bursting echoed at the same time.

Ryan’s scalp tingled—no doubt, Angie really was Jiangdong’s number-one vicious girl.

Dead silence…

A massive thunderclap split the sky. In August, storms hit Harbor City out of nowhere—and ever since Ryan’s rain ritual, these downpours came almost every other day, washing away all traces of blood in no time.

The crowd had already scattered, and Manager Ge and the clerks had bolted out the back before the rain even started—everyone knew that once half-dead Yvonne and the Incense Master were dragged away, an even bigger disaster was about to hit. Stick around any longer and you might never escape.

So with the thunder pouring down, only Angie Chen and Ryan Ling were left inside Su’s Pharmacy.

“Master Ling, how was my performance just now?” Angie Chen sashayed up to Ryan in the empty pharmacy, her voice sweet and teasing.

“Pretty ruthless! I’m impressed!” Ryan replied quickly.

“I’m not usually that savage—I just hate seeing them bully Sophie and Grandpa Su!” Angie hurried to explain.

“Either way, I really have to thank you. I’d never have thought of a lesson like that. Yvonne totally brought it on herself—she’s lucky to leave with her life.” Ryan shook his head.

“Haha, you think that was satisfying too? Honestly, I almost planted a Ghostfire Bead down below, but figured that’d be way too cruel!” Angie admitted without a hint of shame.

Ryan shook his head—Angie wasn’t just wild, she was almost a total pervert.

BOOM!

A sudden thunderclap exploded overhead—Angie panicked and stumbled straight into Ryan’s arms.

“What are you doing now? Trying to mess with me again? Get up!” Ryan was startled, thinking Angie was pulling another stunt.

But Angie quickly protested, “Master Ling, I’m really scared of thunder—I’ve been terrified of it since I was a kid…”

Before she could finish, another thunderbolt exploded overhead—way louder than before. Angie screamed, clutching her ears.

Ryan stared—Angie really wasn’t faking. Her face was pale and she was shaking all over.

“Wow, you really are scared of thunder!” Ryan finally got it—Angie wasn’t pretending.

Angie nodded frantically, too scared to even talk.

Ryan's brain short-circuited for a second—Angie was clinging to him like a human ice pack, shaking so hard he almost felt bad for her. And with the thunder outside, it was like they were trapped in the eye of a meme-worthy disaster movie. Even the rain was trying to break into Su's Pharmacy.

“This rain’s insane. Let’s move to the back room?” Ryan glanced around—the sales area was exposed, but the medicine room and staff quarters were quieter and dry.

“Okay, but I-I can’t walk by myself. Can you carry me?” Angie’s eyes were red and she was shaking even harder.

Ryan rolled his eyes. Thunder really flipped Angie's switch—one minute she's a savage demon queen, next minute she's a trembling kitten. "Alright, alright, I'll carry you over and close the door. Chill out, drama queen."

“Mm!” Angie nodded, hugging Ryan tightly and pressing herself against him.

Soon Ryan carried Angie into Gus Ge’s room—despite his burly looks, Gus kept the place spotless. Ryan set Angie on the bed and pointed to a blanket: “Wrap up with this, you’ll feel better. I’ll go close the door.”

“Forget the blanket—I just want you!” Angie clung to Ryan, still super tense.

“Give me a break! At least let me close the door first!” Ryan was speechless.

"No way! Sophie told you to take care of me—if I get scared to death by thunder, she's gonna haunt you forever. And with this rain, it's not like anyone's busting in. You're stuck here, buddy. Deal with it!" Angie burrowed closer, and Ryan nearly jumped—her whole body was ice cold, like hugging a ghost fridge.
