Chapter 407: Cut the Crap
But then, Alaric suddenly saw that the Mana Chain, twisting like a serpent, was stopped short before reaching Leon—as if hitting an invisible barrier. No matter how it writhed or tightened, it couldn't get closer. Then, with a thunderous bang, the Mana Chain he cast was shattered by a surge of overwhelming power!
Leon was undeniably a genius, but in Alaric's eyes, he was just that—a genius, nothing more. Alaric was instantly startled—what was going on? To be treated as an equal by Alaric, you’d have to reach the height of a Title Archmage at least.
Leon’s face flushed red, then pale, before settling into a silent, cold smile. But there was no time for Alaric to think—suddenly, a Fireball, raging and scorching, appeared right in front of him.
Still, Alaric reacted instantly. As a Title Archmage, he conjured an Ice Wall before him without hesitation.
“Alaric, you’re going too far…” Leon frowned, shooting Alaric a cold look. Against fire spells, Ice Wall is a powerful countermeasure.
“Too far? If you don’t hand over the Wyvern King’s Blood today, I’ll show you what ‘too far’ really means…” To Alaric, using Ice Wall against a second-tier Archmage’s Fireball was almost overkill. Title Archmages are those who have touched the laws themselves. At this level, even a casual spell carries unimaginable power. The Ice Wall he conjured was as protective as a mage’s Rune Shield.
As soon as Alaric finished speaking, a tremendous surge of magical energy erupted from him. Raising his staff, infinite mana instantly transformed into a Mana Chain, whipping out toward Leon like a serpent. Dealing with a mere Fireball was hardly a challenge at all.
Mana Chain—a spell usually reserved for when a mage completely overwhelms their opponent. But what truly caught Alaric off guard was…
To Alaric, facing a weak second-tier Archmage like Leon, with a ten-rank gap between them, there was no need for spells at all. A single Mana Chain would suffice… That a second-tier Archmage would dare attack him…
In fact, even a ninth-tier Archmage would struggle to break free from a Title Archmage’s Mana Chain. “You’ll soon learn the consequences…” Alaric sneered, casually raising an Ice Wall and beginning to chant a long, complex incantation under his breath.
But just then, Alaric suddenly saw that the Mana Chain—writhing like a giant python—was blocked as it curled toward Leon. No matter how it twisted or tightened, it couldn't get within half a step of Leon. Then, with a thunderous boom, the Mana Chain he’d unleashed was shattered by an overwhelming surge of magical power!
Alaric jumped in shock. What in the world just happened?
Unfortunately, there was no time for Alaric to think—because a Fireball, wild and searing, was already blazing toward him.
Still, Alaric’s reflexes were sharp. The Title Archmage conjured an Ice Wall right in front of himself, his magical expertise evident in every movement.
Against fire magic, Ice Wall was a perfect counter.
To Alaric, using Ice Wall against a mere second-tier Archmage’s Fireball felt almost excessive. Title Archmages were powerful because they’d touched the laws themselves—at their level, even the simplest spell could unleash unimaginable force. The Ice Wall he’d cast was, in terms of defense, every bit as formidable as a Mage’s Rune Shield.
Dealing with a trivial Fireball shouldn’t have posed any challenge at all. For someone like Alaric, it was child’s play.
But what truly caught Alaric off guard was the audacity of his opponent—a surprise that gnawed at the edges of his composure.
This second-tier Archmage actually dared to attack him… The sheer nerve was almost insulting.
"You’ll know the consequences soon enough..." Alaric sneered, conjuring another Ice Wall with a flick of his hand. His face twisted into a cold smile as he began chanting an elaborate, lengthy incantation under his breath.
