No Escape

"Creation Brush? Such a powerful physical body..." Cassie Cao exclaimed in surprise, but showed no intention of letting Joe Di escape. Her divine beast at her feet stirred up waves of void laws, tearing open the void and rushing in the direction where Joe Di had disappeared. Within just a few breaths, Cassie Cao's eyes were filled with astonishment. Without hesitation, she recalled her divine beast and personally chased after Joe Di's Lawstride trajectory at full speed.

After unleashing Lawstride, Joe Di finally breathed a sigh of relief. He was confident that with his Lawstride technique, not even a Third Step cultivator could catch up to him.

But where did Cassie Cao come from? How could she be so terrifying? And her beast companion was just as frightening.

And she hadn't even used any treasures yet. If she had, he might have already been seriously injured. Or perhaps she didn't know he had Lawstride—otherwise, he might not even have had the chance to use it.

This time, he must take the time to perfect his Dao. If he wanted to face Cassie Cao, even reaching Dao Fusion Perfection wouldn't be enough—he had to truly integrate his own Dao.

Once he fused his Dao, he would step into the Third Step, and his strength would undergo a substantial leap. By then, no matter how monstrous Cassie Cao was, he would have nothing to fear.

Wait, something wasn't right. Joe Di suddenly realized that Cassie Cao hadn't used her true attack techniques—just two grabs. Yet those two grabs let Joe Di sense Dao resonance completely different from the Five Elements Universe.

Joe Di quickly understood the reason: Cassie Cao, like him, had also fused her own Dao and established her own cosmic rules. He was just starting out, while she was already nearly complete. Once she entered the Third Step, crushing him would be as easy as squashing an ant.

This woman's background was definitely extraordinary. Fortunately, he now knew her name—he could ask those old monsters about her later.

In just half a stick of incense, Joe Di's expression grew grim. Ever since mastering Lawstride, this was the first time he'd seen someone able to keep up with him while he used it. Under his divine sense, Cassie Cao seemed to be walking right along the path he traveled. No matter how fast or how far he went, she clung to him like a shadow.

What gave Joe Di a bit of comfort was that the one keeping up with him wasn't the Sixwing Divine Beast. If it had been, he was sure he wouldn't have escaped.

If she had used her divine beast to track him, it would mean that woman wouldn't even need to exert herself—no matter how fast he was, he couldn't escape.

Joe Di frantically pushed his Lawstride to the limit. Days passed, and he noticed something was off: no matter how fast he went, that woman always stayed right behind him. It was driving him mad—if she was that fast, why not just go even faster?

But she couldn't go any faster, which made Joe Di suspect she was matching her speed to his.

Regardless of whether she was doing that or not, Joe Di knew he absolutely couldn't keep going like this. If he did, he'd definitely get caught.

During another desperate escape, Joe Di tore open the void with a wave of his hand. He was glad for his recent seclusion, where he had fused some of his own heaven and earth rules—otherwise, he wouldn't even be able to tear open the void.

After ripping open the void, Joe Di's speed increased even further. But to his dismay, even after tearing through the void, that woman could still keep up with him.

He couldn't beat her in a fight, and he couldn't outrun her. All Joe Di could do was keep tearing open the void, hoping to use the different void domains to shake off her pursuit.

Joe Di was no stranger to fleeing through the void. This wasn't his first time—last time, he'd escaped by using a Void Vortex, where he ended up staying for thousands of years before finally shaking off his pursuer.

Today, Joe Di didn't know how many voids he'd torn open or how far he'd run, but he hadn't seen a single Void Vortex.

That woman didn't seem all that troublesome at first, so why did she chase people like a shrew? Joe Di could only hope she'd get bored after a while and stop on her own.

As long as she stopped chasing him, he'd flee far away, establish his own cosmic rules, then return with his fused Dao resonance to see how she'd settle accounts with him.

What drove Joe Di to despair was that this formidable woman seemed to have nothing better to do. No matter how he ran or how many voids he tore open, she always followed behind.

......

At first, Joe Di worried Cassie Cao would suddenly speed up and catch him. Later, he was certain she absolutely couldn't. The reason she could keep up was likely not because her escape technique was faster, but because it was related to his Lawstride.

His Lawstride relied on the heaven and earth rules of the Five Elements Universe, and Cassie Cao seemed to be intimately familiar with those rules. So no matter how fast he went, she could follow his Lawstride trajectory. If he slowed down, she slowed down too—her speed was completely tied to his escape technique's laws.

If he used Mindshift, Cassie Cao probably wouldn't be able to exploit his escape technique's laws. But Joe Di didn't dare use Mindshift—Cassie Cao, even if she couldn't leverage his laws, would likely still be faster than his Mindshift.

If Cassie Cao's speed outpaced his Mindshift, he wouldn't have a chance to switch back to Lawstride. If she blocked him, Joe Di was certain he'd never escape.

Once Joe Di understood why Cassie Cao could keep up, he actually calmed down. The reason he was no match for her was that all his techniques and escape laws were an open book to her.

If he could fully fuse his own cosmic rules, his Lawstride would operate on his personal rules. Then, at any moment, he could leave Cassie Cao behind.

Joe Di no longer fled in a frenzy, but calmly used Lawstride, taking advantage of the time to establish his own cosmic rules and repeatedly fuse them.

One day, his Lawstride would completely abandon the rules of the Five Elements Universe and become a technique governed solely by his own laws.

Sensing Joe Di's pace had slowed, Cassie Cao, who was following him, frowned deeply. She realized Joe Di had figured out how she was able to keep up, which put her on the defensive. Still, no matter how passive she felt, she wouldn't let someone like Joe Di run rampant in the Five Elements Universe.

There was a time when she lacked the power, and she could have perished. But as long as she lived and witnessed such things, she wouldn't allow them to continue, nor let someone like Joe Di act lawlessly.

No matter what escape technique was used, eventually it would be exhausted. So she wasn't worried about failing to catch up to Joe Di.

Year after year passed. Joe Di didn't know how many voids he'd torn open or how far he'd traveled. Likewise, he had no idea how many heaven and earth rules of his own he'd created. It had become a habit—fleeing while fusing his own cosmic rules.

From anxious to calm, then to composed...

On this day, Joe Di was still frantically fleeing through the void universe. For decades, his divine sense hadn't detected another cultivator's presence, and he'd grown accustomed to it. On the contrary, he found himself increasingly admiring Cassie Cao for her relentless pursuit.

This woman had been doing something utterly pointless for over a century, yet persisted without giving up. He couldn't help but respect her.

Suddenly, a huge Void Vortex that Joe Di had been searching for appeared before him. Without hesitation, he rushed in—years ago, he'd escaped pursuit using one just like this. Even if he was sure Cassie Cao couldn't catch him now, he still didn't want her following right behind him.

(That's all for today's update. Good night, friends!)
