Chasing down Morgan Yang, forcing him into Changbai Mountain!
As Summer Mu spoke these words, his breathing grew a little heavy.
Master Morgan’s fame in Seacrest and Jinnan was truly unparalleled; back then, he hid himself among the mundane world with an invincible air, and his story became a legend.
But now, it seems Morgan Yang’s situation was far less glamorous than the rumors claimed.
"Anything else?"
Evan Lin asked in a deep voice.
Morgan Yang alone wasn’t worth worrying about; what Evan Lin really couldn’t let go of was that headless bronze statue.
"No other discoveries. As for that headless bronze statue, I’ve commissioned quite a few scholars and historians in Minghai City to look up related records, but none of them could give a definite answer."
Summer Mu sighed, "That thing seems to have appeared out of thin air on Thousand-Saints Mountain. Even the elderly locals around Minghai City have no idea where the bronze statue came from. Most people only know that Thousand-Saints Mountain is said to be the place where three thousand living Buddhas attained nirvana."
"Mm."
Evan Lin nodded lightly, already having expected this outcome.
"You’re going to Changbai Mountain? Want me to find someone to go with you?"
Summer Mu understood what Evan Lin was thinking and asked.
"No need."
Evan Lin hung up the phone and stood at the end of the corridor.
After a long while, he finally let out a heavy breath. "Looks like I’ll have to make a trip to Changbai Mountain."
Now Evan Lin’s grades had already reached the top of Capitalview First High School; all he had to do was quietly wait for the college entrance exam to end.
With a few months left before the gaokao, Evan Lin didn’t hesitate. He left school, went home, packed a few things, and headed straight for Capitalview Airport.
On the way to the airport, Evan Lin called Joy Zheng and chatted about family matters. On the other end, Joy had already heard about Evan Lin publicly refusing Clearwater University, and she felt a bit guilty toward him.
"Little Evan, it’s all my fault. I don’t want you to go to Clearwater University—do you blame me for that?"
There was a hint of regret in Joy Zheng’s voice.
Everyone knows the benefits of Clearwater University. Even just having a diploma from there lets you walk into society with your head held high.
Even now, Evan Lin is already Master Lin from Seacrest—a real figure in the world. But in Joy Zheng’s eyes, Evan Lin’s future is still long, and it’s impossible to rely on just that title forever.
"Mom, it’s fine. There are plenty of schools—I can go wherever I want. Clearwater University is great, but whether I go or not doesn’t really matter to me."
Evan Lin smiled, comforting Joy Zheng.
On the other end, Joy Zheng hesitated a little. "Do you want to know why I don’t want you to go to Clearwater University?"
"Mom, you can tell me whenever you want. If you don’t want to say, you don’t have to."
Evan Lin’s tone was gentle. "Besides, you must have your reasons for not wanting me to go there. I trust you wouldn’t ever harm me—that’s enough for me."
After Evan Lin said this, Joy Zheng clearly breathed a sigh of relief on the other end. "Mm. Just do your best in Jinnan for the gaokao this time. Mom will be cheering you on."
After hanging up, Evan Lin gazed out the car window.
If Evan Lin really wanted to know why Joy Zheng didn’t want him to study at Clearwater University, he could just ask Summer Mu or Warren Wu to have someone investigate. It wouldn’t take much effort.
But since Joy Zheng didn’t want to talk about it, it meant she wasn’t ready to face those things yet. Evan Lin wasn’t in a hurry—so long as Joy was happy, nothing else really mattered, no matter how big it seemed.
The car soon arrived at the airport.
Evan Lin bought a ticket to Changbai Mountain.
The plane soon took off, slicing through the clouds, with clear skies all the way.
By the time he landed at Changbai Mountain Airport, it was nearly dusk.
After getting off the plane, Evan Lin had just exited the terminal.
At the exit, two men and a woman were standing there, waiting for a ride.
"We were counting on that guy to bring the goods out—who the hell thought he’d die as soon as he got out?" one man said, his face dark as thunder.
"What could we do? Decades ago, he stole from us and was forced into the mountains. He never showed his face all these years—we thought he was dead. Who’d have guessed he was still alive, and not just alive, but broke through to Vajra! When news of him surfaced, the family sent people to look for him, but before we could act, some so-called Master Lin from Seacrest killed him. What a joke!" the other man snorted, voice heavy with disdain.
"He got wiped out so easily, so he probably never did get that thing. Otherwise, how could a mere Master Lin from Seacrest have taken him down?"
One of the men seemed to sense something, glanced over at Evan Lin, furrowing his brow, his face showing a hint of wariness.
They didn’t realize that, as they spoke, every word had already reached Evan Lin’s ears.
Still, these people didn’t pay Evan Lin any mind. After all, he looked just like any high school student—young, and surely no threat at all.
"Let’s keep this between us for now, and not mention anything else. When Queenie Tong and the others arrive, watch what you say."
"Our goal this trip is to enter Changbai Mountain and trace Morgan Yang’s trail. We need to keep it secret."
"If Morgan Yang didn’t get that thing, at least the story of him shattering the Vajra barrier isn’t fake. So most likely, he must have seen it at least once."
"Don’t worry, we know how to handle ourselves. But that celebrity Serena Tong is really pretty. I wonder what her sister Queenie Tong looks like?" one man chuckled, his face showing some anticipation.
"They’re siblings, so she probably looks pretty good too," the other man nodded. "If there’s a chance, maybe I’ll make a move—she’s just a celebrity’s little sister, after all."
As soon as the cars stopped, the first to get out was a stylish young second-gen in sunglasses. He hopped out, eyes lighting up at the sight of the girl, and grinned, "Long time no see, Rena Yu! If it weren’t for this class reunion, we’d probably never get a chance to meet you!"
