I continued to wait for Vivian Ouyang to wake up. Mona Ouyang said nothing more and left, as if she had something to attend to.
I sat quietly by the table, feeling the gentle breeze on my face. Everything here was so pleasant—this was Mona Ouyang’s creation, a dream made real. This dream had already helped Ethan Zhang many times. Once you immerse yourself in this beautiful illusion, eat and drink to your fill, you wake up restored.
When Vivian Ouyang wakes up, she should be recovered. I still want to witness that power one more time.
This power already disregards the mutual restraints and laws between forces. My power leans more toward the human side and can serve as a foundation for spellcraft. Unfortunately, I lack the faith that every practitioner must possess. But since my power can break through such limits, other powers should also be able to. Just now, Mona Ouyang mentioned that this power was originally effective against mid-tier Green Wraiths, which means it also works against ghosts.
Now, I just need to wait for Vivian Ouyang to wake up, and then I’ll know everything.
After a while, Vivian Ouyang finally woke up. She yawned, and a pile of sweets and fruit appeared on the table before me. Vivian Ouyang walked over lazily, pressing her forehead.
"I’ve recovered a little."
Soon, Vivian Ouyang looked refreshed as she gazed at me, her eyes full of amusement and her expression charmingly seductive.
"You know, ever since I was born, I’ve been able to see ghosts. It’s not because of Mona Ouyang’s possession, but something in my own bloodline."
I grunted in acknowledgment.
"So you really are members of the family, then?"
"Indeed, we belong to a certain clan. Even before Mona Ouyang, the evil spirit, became involved, our family already possessed some special abilities."
Vivian Ouyang then began her story.
Since the time of their ancestors, the Ouyang Family has possessed the power to dispel certain things. At first, this power was used by the family’s forebears to earn a living.
One ancestor of the Ouyang Family discovered, by accident, that sometimes when ghosts entered or passed by a house, they would leave behind a foul aura, causing the family’s luck to turn bad. This ancestor could see these things.
At first, this ancestor had no idea what was happening. But through experimentation, he found he could use his own hands to sweep away the foul aura, ending others’ streaks of bad luck.
Originally, the Ouyang Family was just a clan in a small village, all born as farmers. That era was plagued by war, famine, and disease, making life unbearable.
With almost no income, the Ouyang Family could only rely on the land. They didn’t even have grain to use as seed. Later, this ancestor began telling everyone about his gift, but at the time, no one believed him.
Struggling to survive, and with famine and disease ravaging the village—so many had already died—this ancestor had no choice but to leave with his wife and children. He dressed himself up and claimed he could dispel foul aura for others.
When he reached more stable places, business was tough at first—few believed him. But after a few people paid to try, the ancestor used his special ability and truly ended their streaks of bad luck. Each time he dispelled the foul aura, though, he felt especially tired and hungry, and could only do it three times a day at most.
And so, the ancestor’s business in the city flourished. He even had enough money to buy a house. But he could only perform his service three times a day and needed one day of rest each week. He made up some stories, and people believed him even more, making it seem more mysterious.
More and more people came to him to dispel their bad luck—nobles and commoners alike. The price kept rising, and many poor people simply couldn’t afford it.
Eventually, the local lord heard of it and broke protocol to appoint the ancestor to a palace position, with extra payment each time. Life became smoother for him, but none of his children inherited the ability.
For the sake of his children and future generations, the ancestor not only helped the lord dispel bad luck, but also did the same for many nobles.
But good fortune didn’t last. After six or seven years, one morning he coughed up blood, and his luck ran out. The doctor said his condition was hopeless—his heartbeat was faint, and the blood he coughed up grew darker each time.
The ancestor sought doctors everywhere and told people he was unwell and couldn’t work. But the nobles and lords were dissatisfied—they insisted he keep dispelling bad luck. Afraid to refuse, he kept using his power.
But good fortune was fleeting. One day, the ancestor became gravely ill, lying on his deathbed. He finally realized that while he could dispel others’ bad luck, he couldn’t dispel his own. A practitioner from the occult world visited, but could only shake his head and say the ancestor’s end was near.
The practitioner also said this power might be passed down through his bloodline. The ancestor understood and began to arrange his affairs. He wrote a unique family precept, recorded the story on bamboo slips, stored them in an ugly iron bucket, and instructed his family to pass it down.
The will stated clearly: if anyone in the Ouyang Family inherits this power, they must never overuse it—only use it in times of absolute necessity.
After that, people with this power would occasionally appear in the Ouyang Family. Each time, the family head would pass the bamboo slips to the next inheritor. But later, in the hands of one generation’s family head, the meaning of the bamboo slips changed.
The family began to use each generation’s gifted individual to help the clan prosper. But prosperity never lasted; after one or two generations, decline would set in again.

It wasn’t until the family met Mona Ouyang that the Ouyang Family had fallen so far they had to resort to storytelling to make a living.
After the Ouyang Family accepted Mona Ouyang’s terms, they were able to turn things around. Each generation would provide a vessel for Mona Ouyang to enter the world, and in return, Mona Ouyang would grant the family prophetic and pleasant dreams. The Ouyang Family grew wealthier and stronger with each generation; by modern times, they were among the richest in H City.
And this special power to dispel filth made a qualitative leap after Vivian Ouyang’s faith died.
"When I woke up in the Yang Realm, I realized just how powerful this ability was. When I returned to the real world, I asked my father about some things and learned the history of the Ouyang Family. After that, every time I slept, I would enter that world."
I looked at Vivian Ouyang in confusion. She sighed.
"There’s no need to go into detail about everything that happened to me. You just need to know the origin of this power, right?"
I nodded in agreement. At that moment, a look of sorrow appeared in Vivian Ouyang’s eyes, as if she were recalling something. She stood up and said:
"Let the painful things be borne by my other self. There’s no need for the present Vivian Ouyang to shoulder everything. If she knew it all, my power would begin to recover—but that’s not what I want. It’s enough that faith is rebuilt in her heart."
I seemed to understand something, my gaze heavy as I stared at her.
"Does it mean you have to recall all the past suffering to make this power stronger?"
Vivian Ouyang smiled and nodded.
"Strictly speaking, it’s about hating what you once believed in, rejecting your former self, dragging yourself deeper into the abyss of no return. That way, the power multiplies and keeps growing. The deeper the hatred, the greater the power. When Vivian Ouyang recalled everything she’d done, for a moment I could fully bring the Yang Realm’s power into reality. Strange, isn’t it? But after Ethan Zhang’s actions, I understood a lot more."
I grunted. Vivian Ouyang laughed, her smile radiant.
"It turns out that happiness is the most important thing in this world. Nothing else matters anymore. Let the past stay in the past. Vivian Ouyang will start a new life. Once Mona Ouyang finds her own body, Vivian Ouyang will say farewell to her forever."
I stared in surprise, eyes wide.
"Alright, I don’t plan to sleep for a while. I want to have some fun for a few days. I’ll come out from time to time, but I won’t interfere with Vivian Ouyang’s life."
I grunted. After hearing this, I instantly gave up. No one wants to relive a painful past—Agent 001 and Agent Seven are the same, including Winter, who can finally stand up now. What they need is hope and a beautiful future, not the darkness of the past.
"Of course, you don’t have to be disappointed. Maybe there are other ways. I’m looking forward to you finding another method, Soul of Heaven. I don’t know much about the world now since I’ve been asleep so long, but Ethan Zhang is gone, right?"
I nodded.
"Since he’s gone, Rachel Lan is mine. I’ll protect her. Soul of Heaven, you need to find a way for us to reclaim the Yang Realm’s power without reliving the darkness of the past. The simplest way is for you to go to the Yang Realm yourself."
I stared, eyes wide. What she said was indeed a solution—if I could find the source, maybe there would be a way. But I didn’t know how to enter the Yang Realm, or if that world even still existed.
