What Happened in the Room
Lily Evans was extremely cautious about the Marquis Valor Estate. Now that Lola had thoroughly investigated and confirmed it was indeed Alexander Hayes who summoned her, Lily finally relaxed. She stepped down from the carriage, brought Lola along, and followed the young maid into the estate.
As Lily Evans walked, she realized this path led directly to Lou's Courtyard.
"Princess Consort, please hurry." The maid leading the way seemed a bit anxious and urged her on.
Lily followed the maid to Lou's Courtyard, only to find Madam Lou and Marquis Weiyuan standing at the entrance. The door to the house behind them was tightly shut, and Alexander Hayes was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is the Prince?" Lily asked, her gaze wary as she looked at the two of them.
Madam Lou wore a smile, but it wasn’t the submissive kind—it was the look of someone who had finally gotten revenge. She gazed at Lily with gloating satisfaction. "Lily Evans, your good days are coming to an end!"
Lily frowned. "What do you mean by that, Madam Lou?"
Madam Lou covered her mouth and giggled. "It’s nothing. Go inside and see for yourself, and you’ll know exactly what I mean."
Lily’s frown deepened as she looked at the tightly closed door, and she seemed to hear strange, indistinct noises coming from inside.
Lily wasn’t an innocent girl—she’d been married for a while. She immediately understood what those sounds meant. Her face turned pale, and she nearly staggered.
Madam Lou’s laughter grew even more triumphant. "Lily Evans, you’re not as clever as you think. Today, you’ll learn what it means to lose everything!"
Marquis Weiyuan looked at Lily with a cold sneer, clearly enjoying her discomfort.
Lily clenched her fists, forcing herself to stay calm. She took a deep breath and walked toward the door, her heart pounding.
The moment she pushed open the door, the noises inside stopped abruptly. Lily braced herself for the worst.
Inside, she saw Alexander Hayes sitting calmly on the bed, his clothes neat and his expression cold. A woman was kneeling at his feet, sobbing uncontrollably.
Alexander glanced at Lily, his eyes sharp and clear. "You’re late," he said coolly.
Lily let out a shaky breath. The situation was tense, but Alexander’s presence gave her a sliver of hope.
