Safe (Part Two)

Afternoon, at Lyth Equipment Mart.

The sun was at its fiercest, sending waves of heat through the air outside. Inside the Equipment Mart, cool air brushed their faces, giving an unusually refreshing feeling.

The Equipment Mart was rather quiet.

But six or seven young men and women, each carrying a backpack, stood just inside the entrance to the Equipment Mart, their faces showing a mix of nervousness and anticipation.

They were students from Southriver Normal University.

With the new students about to enroll, they needed to organize the freshman ceremony and opening events, which required raising a significant amount of money—in short, they had to secure sponsorships.

Sigh.

One of the boys let out a sigh. "The school should be covering these costs, but instead, the student council has to go out and find sponsors. This is already the third location... If we can’t get sponsorship here, we’ll probably have to go back empty-handed."

The other students looked at each other, but no one spoke.

At that moment—

A boy in a light windbreaker with a neat crew cut smiled lightly. "Don’t worry, my dad is on good terms with the manager of Lyth Equipment Mart. With me here, it shouldn’t be a problem."

As soon as he finished speaking, the place fell silent.

No one said a word.

Although they were all student council members, they belonged to different departments and were competitors. The school leadership had hinted that whoever could secure a sponsorship would become the student council vice president.

The vice president position—now that's something worth fighting for!

For these students, it was a position of great honor.

Most of these young people were sophomores; becoming a department head was already impressive, but to earn the vice president role—normally reserved for juniors—meant a bright future indeed.

Of course,

A bright future was just their wishful thinking.

Nearby,

A stylish girl in a simple short skirt curled her lip in disgust. She was Helen Han from Southriver Normal University—Andrew Han’s older female cousin.

"Heh."

"Kevin Wang, you’re really proud of yourself for leaning on your dad’s connections?" Helen couldn’t hold back her disgust and spoke up.

About half a year ago, Helen had taken Andrew out for a bit of fun, singing karaoke with her roommate and Kevin Wang. It was then she saw Kevin’s true colors.

He looked decent enough on the outside.

But he had no sense of responsibility—he was a coward.

"Hmm?"

Kevin Wang’s face turned cold as he glared at Helen. "What’s it to you?"

Helen snorted twice, showing no fear.

She felt her roommate deserved better, and thought Kevin Wang’s behavior was shameful. After what happened last time, she couldn’t believe Kevin still had the nerve to chase after her roommate Grace Chen.

Relentless pestering.

Endless badgering.

If Grace hadn’t lived in the school dorm, she might have been in real danger.

At that thought,

Helen met Kevin’s gaze and spoke calmly, "This semester, don’t bother Grace Chen anymore. Do yourself a favor and get some self-awareness. And please stop texting me to ask what Grace is doing—I have no obligation to answer you."

Kevin Wang pulled at the corner of his mouth.

He thought Helen, as a fellow student council member, should help him. He hadn’t expected her reaction after last time.

But—

If he succeeded in securing the sponsorship this time, Kevin Wang would become student council vice president.

Hmph.
