Attendants Sent by My Aunt Are Even More Unacceptable
"Adrian, don't leave! We're having a family banquet tonight—you have to join us!"
"I'm not leaving, I'm not leaving!" Adrian said. "I still want to drink Master Vivian's peach-blossom wine!"
High Goddess Vivian Lu smiled and waved them off, letting the kids go play.
Ryan Lu pulled Luna Lian aside and asked, "It's the Divine Lord's birthday—why aren't you going?"
"There are six of us in the family, and five are going—isn't that enough?" Luna Lian replied. "I don't like crowded events."
"You're also the Divine Lord's senior sister!"
Luna Lian gave a meaningful smile: "Do you really think the Divine Lord remembers me as his senior sister? In his eyes, you're the only one who counts as his senior sister!"
"You—"
"Alright, alright! They're all waiting for you—go on!" Luna Lian urged, pushing her forward.
"You should come along and take a look too!"
"I've got other things to do," Luna Lian said. "I have to help Divine Mother review this year's account books."
"How can you stand it?" Ryan Lu shook his head and went off to join Adrian and the others.
Inside the trial-field barrier, Adrian asked her, "What's the deal with those Divine Attendants? Each one looks better than the next. Even in my whole Drake Lord's household, I can't find anyone with looks and cultivation like theirs—so why did you make such a fuss?"
"Yeah! And you even got mad at that pretty girl—look how scared you made her!" Luna Lian said, feeling sorry for the girl.
"That's exactly the problem—they're all too perfect, every single one handpicked from a thousand." Ryan Lu said.
"How does that make sense?" Adrian looked puzzled.
"I just asked Luna—three were chosen by our younger aunt Tanya Lu, and three came from our elder aunt's household," Ryan Lu said.
Luna Lian instantly understood, her brows furrowing in distaste.
"So what? Both your aunts are so invested in you—isn't that a good thing?" Adrian asked.
"You have no idea," Ryan Lu said. "Our elder aunt has been trying to marry her daughter to my second brother for ages—always scheming, sending attendants to spread false messages and arrange private meetings. If I kept one of her people at my side, who knows what trouble would come next!"
"Oh, I get it now!" Adrian said. "But what about the ones your younger aunt Tanya Lu sent? Why reject those too? She isn't even married yet, and she doesn't have a daughter trying to marry Ryan, right?"
"She..." Ryan Lu fell silent.
Luna Lian gave a wry smile. "Attendants sent by our younger aunt are even worse! My uncle's family has a cousin named Jumin Jing, and ever since he ascended to High God, their whole branch keeps dropping hints about wanting to marry you off to him. They've clearly bribed Aunt Tanya—she spends all her time desperately trying to set up that match!"
"Definitely not a good idea," Adrian said. "A personal Divine Attendant has to be absolutely loyal. If they're constantly passing messages or things to outsiders, working behind your back, one day your reputation—or even your life—could be ruined by them."
Ryan Lu and Luna Lian both nodded.
"No wonder..." Adrian started to say, then trailed off.
"No wonder what?"
"Nothing, nothing..." Adrian laughed.
"Hey, we tell you everything!" Luna Lian protested. "You're so annoying when you act mysterious!"
Adrian said, "I once overheard two High Gods at the Spirit Alliance chatting while seeking treatment. They said your mother... is so pure-hearted, she trusts people too easily. If it weren't for High God Ethan Lu keeping the household clean, things would be a mess."
Luna Lian nodded. "Divine Mother really is pure-hearted. Even if she sees an injured mouse, she insists on healing it. She always says everyone is good at heart, and if you guide them enough, even their worst side can improve."
"She must be Guanyin Bodhisattva reincarnated," Ryan Lu sighed. "Good thing she has such good luck—an older brother with thunderous methods, and Luna to help manage the household. Otherwise, she'd probably get sold off and still help count the money!"
"Is that any way to talk about your own mother?" Adrian teased.
"Of course, she's got me too!" Ryan Lu said proudly. "I'll never let anyone with bad intentions hurt Divine Mother!"
"Bad intentions—who do you mean?" Adrian asked.
"For example, a certain Young Lord who not only steals peaches but plans to sneak home a few jars of peach-blossom wine tonight!" Ryan Lu said with a wicked grin.
