"Not ugly, not ugly, babies look like this right after birth—wrinkled and dark. It'll look better after a couple of days." Madam Wang gently placed the baby into Wu Caiwei's arms.

Midwife Liu Wenpo came over to help Wu Caiwei loosen her clothes and taught her how to breastfeed the baby.

The little infant kept its eyes closed, puckering its thin lips as it searched for milk—adorable beyond words.

Thanks to thorough preparation, the bloodstains in the delivery room quickly faded, and all the soiled sheets and blankets were sent out for cleaning.

The delivery room was warmed by burning earthworms, cozy and comfortable. After all the cleanup was done, Su Li, Madam Wang, and Bailu were so exhausted they could barely keep their eyes open.

Su Li stepped out of the delivery room, rubbing her tired eyelids. "Zhang Mu, Doctor Wu, you can come in now. A seven-jin chubby boy, hee hee hee!"

Zhang Mu and Doctor Wu immediately rushed toward the delivery room. Both ran so fast, too eager, that they bumped into the doorframe together and got stuck!

Zhang Mu quickly stepped back and made a polite gesture. "Father, you go ahead first."

Doctor Wu hurried inside, followed closely by Zhang Mu, who immediately drew the thick curtain down.

Inside, Zhang Mu knelt by the bedside, tears welling in his eyes as he looked at his wife and chubby son.

"Caiwei, you’ve worked hard." Zhang Mu gently brushed Wu Caiwei's hair, noticing her skin was dry and her hair neat, with the typical maternity headband tied around her head.

Seeing this, Zhang Mu knew that Su Li's family had taken good care of Wu Caiwei—unlike ordinary women who look bedraggled after childbirth.

"Zhang Mu, Father, look at our ugly child." Wu Caiwei had finished breastfeeding and wrapped the baby, who was now sleeping peacefully and serenely.

The newly minted dad, Zhang Mu, gently stroked the baby's cheek and said, "You little rascal, you made your mother suffer all day and night. Hmph, when you grow up, I'll teach you a lesson to make up for your mother!"

Wu Caiwei burst out laughing, "What nonsense are you saying, getting mad at your own son?"

Doctor Wu wiped his tears nearby. With his daughter safely delivered, he felt at ease and began muttering about preparing some nourishing soup and medicine for her.

At that moment, Lingdang came in carrying the nourishing soup that Su Li had long since prepared, smiling brightly, "Master cooked it himself. He said it’s warming and most suitable for a woman who just gave birth."

Zhang Mu quickly took the soup, inhaling its rich aroma. The broth was thick and fragrant with soft, glutinous rice—perfect for the weakened Wu Caiwei.

"Thank you so much, Ali. We really don’t know how to repay all the kindness she’s shown our family," Zhang Mu said emotionally as he fed Wu Caiwei a spoonful.

Wu Caiwei smiled happily, "Of course, Ali is my best sister. If she ever has any difficulties, we must support her."

Meanwhile, Su Li was so exhausted she was nearly falling asleep while undressing.

Xiao Zetian laughed as he watched her drowsily undress. He walked over, wrapped his arms around her, and quickly helped her take off her outer clothes.

Su Li was drenched in sweat from the effort in the delivery room. Now, half-closed eyes and yawning, she despised the sweat covering her body.

"Sigh, I really want to take a bath but have no strength. I’m so sleepy," Su Li said, leaning on the bed and yawning repeatedly. "Having a baby is such a struggle, it feels like I gave birth to half a baby myself."

Her voice gradually grew softer until she just fell asleep right there, leaning forward.

"Little thing..." Xiao Zetian looked at her with indulgent affection, his eyes warm with tenderness. He simply lifted her into his arms, and except for her clothes, carried her into the bath tub.
