Hungry

12/19/2025

Under the King's Spirit Tree, Grace and Rina Chu finished tidying up the hut.

Suddenly, a "grrrr" sound came from Rina Chu's stomach.

As if joining in, Grace's stomach started rumbling too.

"We didn't even have breakfast today, and now I'm suddenly starving!" Rina Chu smacked her lips.

"Me too. I'm so hungry," Grace said. "But... there's no kitchen here."

We left in such a hurry today, we didn't even think about these things, and there's no food stored in the sanctum...

Rina Chu glanced at the two huts. "Not only is there no kitchen, there's no bathroom, no washroom—living here is a real problem!"

Grace looked at the Golden Silkworm Grass and said helplessly, "I guess Jinbo doesn't need to eat or use the bathroom."

After all, it's just a clump of grass...

"No way, we have to find something to eat!" Rina Chu looked around. "Look, there's a bird's nest in the tree!"

Grace looked up and saw that, sure enough, there was a bird's nest on one of the lower branches of the King's Spirit Tree.

"I'll go take a look. Maybe I can catch a bird—

maybe there are even eggs!" As soon as she finished speaking, she nimbly tapped her toes against the tree and climbed up.

She's a Spirit Master Sixth Rank, so even though she can't fly, climbing a tree is easy for her.

She quickly reached the bird's nest, glanced inside, and flashed Grace a triumphant victory sign.

Grace's eyes lit up, already imagining the delicious smell of roasted bird eggs...

Rina Chu pulled out a Spirit-Binding Cord and looped it around the bird's nest.

Then, she snared a bird that looked a lot like a dove.

"Haha! We've got food!" Rina Chu cheered. "Grace, start a fire! Let's roast it!"

Just as she finished, the little bird caught by the Spirit-Binding Cord suddenly opened its beak wide and spat a jet of fire at Rina Chu.

"Ah!" Rina Chu screamed and fell from the tree.

Grace quickly reached out and caught her.

Rina Chu's face was covered in black soot, her eyes vacant, looking completely dazed.

Grace quickly checked her pulse and then fed her a Clarity Pill. It took a while before Rina Chu came back to her senses and asked, "What kind of bird was that? Even caught with a Spirit-Binding Cord, it could still spit fire!"

The Spirit-Binding Cord is supposed to suppress a spirit beast's powers!

Grace glanced up just as the bird looked down from its nest. Human and bird locked eyes... and Grace could swear she saw mockery in its gaze.

That bird... it was totally mocking them for biting off more than they could chew...

Grace said awkwardly, "Let's go down to the water and see if we can catch a fish to roast. Same difference."

"No way! I have to eat that annoying bird!" Rina Chu got up and tried to climb the tree again.

Grace stopped her. "The creatures living on the King's Spirit Tree must be extraordinary. Let's not mess with them."

Rina Chu gave up and said, "Fine, let's go! Time to catch some fish!"

The two of them walked to the foot of the mountain, where there was a body of water not far away.

The water in Drake Abyss was beautiful—so pure and clear, sparkling, and instantly likable.

Grace helped Rina Chu wash her face clean, and then the two started looking for fish.

Grace thought, if there aren't any fish in this water, I'll just pull two out from my sanctum's lake and pretend we caught them here.

After all, you have to be by the water to cheat like this—you can't just make two fish appear out of nowhere in the middle of dry land, right?

But as soon as they looked at the water's edge, they really did see something moving inside.

"There, there!" Rina Chu whispered, pointing at it. "Watch me!"

With that, she started to gather her Yuan Force, shaping it into an arrow to attack.
