Bai Family’s Pursuit and Two Deaths

2/14/2026

After Evan Yang left Centralgate City, Rockwell Nance returned to the City Lord’s manor in a fury, just in time to see Biylinzi, who had tried to kill someone, sneer and say, “Kid, I didn’t expect your first furnace to lose as well.”

“Damn it, how did that kid know the Twelve-Shift Fire-Gathering Array!” Biylinzi complained, unwilling to accept defeat.

“Looks like that kid isn’t ordinary. He stole the spotlight again this time.” Rockwell Nance deliberately provoked.

“I won’t let him get away with this. I’m going to find my master right now!” Biylinzi stormed out of the City Lord’s manor, leaving Rockwell Nance deep in thought, muttering to himself from time to time.

Just then, a man in white walked in.

“Isn’t that Gerald ‘Old Ghost’ Bai?” Rockwell Nance noticed the aura of a cultivator entering his hall and asked in surprise.

“Ha, Rockwell Nance, I didn’t expect to see such a pill refining genius in your city.” The man in white laughed.

“I wondered who it was—turns out it’s Old Ghost Bai.” Rockwell Nance put away his thoughts and replied with a smile.

“What a pity, what a pity.” Old Ghost Bai said ‘what a pity’ twice. Rockwell Nance responded with curiosity, “Why is it a pity?”

“It’s a pity that the little beggar can’t be used by you.” Old Ghost Bai sneered.

“So what? The others are the same.” Rockwell Nance chuckled.

“You think I don’t know what you’re thinking? Tell me, what’s that little beggar’s background?” Old Ghost Bai spoke to Rockwell Nance like an old acquaintance.

Rockwell Nance couldn’t hide anything from Old Ghost Bai, but he also didn’t know Evan Yang’s origins. He could only recount everything that had happened with Evan in the City Lord’s manor over the past few days.

After listening, Old Ghost Bai grunted and asked, “You don’t know his background either?”

“Of course. If I knew, would I still be so cautious?” Rockwell Nance’s biggest worry was not knowing the other’s background, and he was troubled by it now.

“I thought you knew!” Old Ghost Bai said coldly.

“What do you mean by that?” Rockwell Nance replied unhappily.

“Nothing. It’s just that lately, my family affairs are also related to that little beggar, so I came to ask. Since you don’t know, I’ll be leaving.” Old Ghost Bai finished speaking and disappeared from Rockwell Nance’s sight with a flash.

Seeing Old Ghost Bai come and go freely, Rockwell Nance, feeling disregarded, called out coldly, “Attendants!”

Immediately, two masked men in black appeared beside Rockwell Nance, speaking in unison, “Here!”

“You two, go investigate what happened between the little beggar, the Chu Family, and the Bai Family!” Rockwell Nance ordered his two most loyal subordinates.

“Yes!” The two then vanished from Rockwell Nance’s presence.

“Miss Chu is flirting with him, the Bai Family is knocking on the door—just what is this little beggar’s background?” Thinking about today’s events, Rockwell Nance couldn’t help but focus his attention on the little beggar.

Evan Yang had no idea about what was happening in Centralgate City. He was leisurely walking along a small path, occasionally humming a tune and thinking about alchemy knowledge and his next steps.

Suddenly, someone burst out in anger, shouting at Evan Yang, “Kid, was it you!”

The person who appeared suddenly looked very much like someone Evan knew—in fact, he was practically Gavin Bai’s duplicate.

“I don’t know how I offended you, sir.” Evan Yang, noticing the other was already at early Foundation-Building stage, asked in surprise.

“Hmph, stop pretending. You may have fooled the Chu Family girl, but you can’t fool me!” The man said angrily.

“Why?” Evan Yang guessed the man must be a relative of Gavin Bai—there was no way he’d look so similar otherwise.

“You’re wearing my brother’s treasure armor!” the man said angrily.

“Huh? You have X-ray vision?” Evan Yang asked in surprise and curiosity when he heard this.

“Hmph, you thought no one would notice. You claim you haven’t seen my brother, but that treasure armor on you was taken from him. Tell me, what happened to my brother?” The man was focused on his brother’s fate.

“Gavin Bai is your brother? And how did you know about the treasure armor?” Evan Yang realized he couldn’t hide the truth anymore, but still wanted to know how the other discovered he had the armor—unless he really had X-ray vision.

“My name is Garrett Bai. He’s my blood brother. If I hadn’t followed the Chu Family girl today, I wouldn’t have found you, and wouldn’t have discovered my brother’s treasure armor was on you!” Garrett Bai replied.

“You still haven’t told me how you figured out the treasure armor was on me.” Evan Yang pressed.

Thinking Evan Yang was just an ordinary person, an alchemist without cultivation, Garrett Bai wasn’t afraid of him running away, so he wasn’t worried about him knowing. He then took off his trousers.

“Hey, why are you taking off your pants? I’m a guy too.” Evan Yang was about to curse, but saw the other wearing trousers made of the same material as his own treasure armor—they were even part of a set.

“No one else knows these two pieces are a set. When they’re close together, the armor and leggings resonate. My brother’s cultivation was lower than mine, so I let him have the armor.” Garrett Bai explained, holding back his anger.

Evan Yang pulled aside his clothes and saw that the center of the treasure armor was emitting a faint glow, just like the edge of Garrett Bai’s treasure leggings. “No wonder.” Evan finally understood and muttered to himself.

“Tell me, what happened to my brother?” Garrett Bai asked, unable to hold back any longer.

“Your brother… is dead.” Evan Yang deliberately slowed down the last two words, planning to deal with the man in front of him—otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to avoid today’s trouble.

“What? Who? Who killed him?” Hearing the news of his brother’s death, Garrett Bai lost control and charged at Evan Yang, trying to crush him to death.

Evan Yang stepped back a few paces, drawing several daggers.

“You? It was you? Impossible.” Garrett Bai recognized the daggers immediately—they belonged to his brother.

Evan Yang smiled, then threw the daggers, hitting Garrett Bai in the chest. For cultivators of the same rank, Evan could take a life in a single move. Garrett Bai, completely unprepared and without any life-saving treasure, was struck three times, staring at Evan in terror. “You… how do you have such strength!”

“Don’t underestimate beggars as cultivators—you’ll die a miserable death!” Evan Yang sneered, then retrieved his daggers. Severely wounded, Garrett Bai died without ever understanding how a little beggar could have such strength.

He fell to the ground, eyes staring at the sky, filled with fear and unwillingness.

“I didn’t want to kill you, but if I don’t, my whereabouts will be exposed.” Evan Yang sighed. Though he was used to killing, he wasn’t a bloodthirsty maniac. If Garrett Bai hadn’t exposed him with the treasure leggings, he might have survived.

Helpless, Evan Yang took the treasure leggings from Garrett Bai and put them on. “So it really is a set.” Evan was amazed—the armor and leggings were indeed a set, and when combined, their previous close-range glow disappeared.

Feeling satisfied, Evan Yang looked at Garrett Bai’s corpse and sighed, “You two brothers can go meet each other now.” Just as he was about to find a place to hide Garrett Bai’s body, a powerful aura suddenly surged forth.

“This is bad.” Sensing the murderous aura, Evan Yang knew it must be a Bai Family expert. He didn’t dare linger and immediately ran away.

Evan Yang had barely left when a man in white landed beside Garrett Bai’s body. Seeing the lifeless form, his eyes instantly turned crimson. “You little bastard, I won’t let you get away!” This was Gerald ‘Old Ghost’ Bai, who had sensed the disturbance from the air and used his spiritual sense to probe, discovering the little beggar had killed his eldest son—but he was still too late.

He collected Garrett Bai’s body and vanished into thin air, then crossed dozens of meters at a time, heading straight for Evan Yang.

“Damn, what kind of power does this guy have?” Feeling the aura rapidly approaching, Evan Yang was shocked.

Gerald ‘Old Ghost’ Bai, who stood shoulder to shoulder with Rockwell Nance, was not someone anyone dared underestimate. But no matter how powerful he was, both his sons were gone—his younger son missing, his eldest just killed by a little beggar. All his life’s darlings were gone, leaving him both heartbroken and furious.

“What should I do?” Evan Yang felt he would soon be caught, and judging by the aura, he wouldn’t even have a chance to resist.

Unaware, Evan Yang entered an expanse of fiery red sky. The aura behind him weakened a bit. “Huh? Why isn’t he coming in?” Evan wondered, noticing the pause.

A middle-aged man’s voice echoed nearby: “Boy, stop right there. I’ll leave you a whole corpse. But if you keep running, when I catch you, I’ll rip your soul out!”

“Only a fool would stop.” Evan Yang cursed.

“Damn you!” The man in white angrily crossed a few steps, catching up to Evan Yang’s pace. Evan felt frustrated—there was no way forward, only a dead volcano rift ahead.

Looking at the rift and the dark red sky, Evan Yang finally understood why the other hesitated—he’d calculated that Evan wouldn’t dare enter.

The man in white stopped a few dozen meters away from Evan Yang. One leap would bring him right up to Evan, but he didn’t move, since Evan was already pretending to jump. If the man advanced, Evan would leap in—better than being caught alive.

“Little beggar, why did you kill my eldest son?!” Gerald ‘Old Ghost’ Bai shouted angrily, glaring at Evan Yang from a distance.

“So he’s their father.” Evan Yang was shocked, but kept a calm face and shouted back, “He tried to kill me!”

“Garrett wanted to kill you? Impossible!” Gerald ‘Old Ghost’ Bai knew his sons’ tempers—they could easily offend others, which was why he gave them treasure armor. But noticing Garrett’s treasure leggings were missing, he realized the only possibility was that the little beggar had taken them.

“Impossible! He was a bandit!” Evan Yang stubbornly insisted.

Gerald ‘Old Ghost’ Bai said nothing, but stared Evan Yang up and down. His expression grew darker and darker. If before he wanted to kill Evan for his son’s death, now he wanted to torture him alive. His eyes were blood-red—unclear if it was the environment or rage. He roared, “You—you—you little beggar! Both my sons’ treasure armor and leggings were taken by you!”

“He knows all that?” Evan Yang was shocked, deeply impressed by the man’s abilities. Actually, Old Ghost Bai had embedded tracking marks in both sets of armor, so he could sense them at close range.

“I’ll kill you!” At this moment, Gerald ‘Old Ghost’ Bai went mad, not caring about anything else. He flashed forward, his figure vanishing, and his words ceased.

“This is bad.” Evan Yang knew the man was coming for him, so without thinking, he jumped backward into the rift.
