You Did It On Purpose

12/19/2025

Samuel Sun was a member of the Sun Family, a renowned clan of spiritual alchemists.

Edward Lawrence also believed he surely hadn't done it on purpose.

After all, Grace had nothing to do with the Sun Family. There was no reason for them to deliberately try to kill her, right?

So, although he was angry, Edward Lawrence still reasoned, "Alright, alright! Thank goodness General Evan Xiao stepped in, otherwise my daughter would've lost her life! Go get your wound treated!"

"Thank you, Edward Lawrence." Samuel Sun clutched his shoulder and prepared to leave.

Grace glanced at Evan Xiao. Was it him who stepped in just now?

He was so far away from her, yet could control objects mid-air. That meant... he was a Spirit Master, Ninth Rank!

Could it be that he had already advanced to the Ninth Rank?

Advancing to the Ninth Rank was no easy feat...

As if he knew Grace was sneaking glances at him, Evan Xiao cast a fleeting, almost imperceptible look her way, then coolly announced, "Samuel Sun, you are expelled from the military. Permanently banned from re-enlistment."

The voice wasn't loud, but it reached everyone's ears.

Samuel Sun's eyes widened in disbelief, and he protested, "General, I acted without intent! You've already punished me, so why expel me from the military?"

Evan Xiao looked at him and uttered five words that would forever pit the Zhu and Sun families against each other: "You did it on purpose."

Samuel Sun's expression changed, but he insisted, "I didn't do it on purpose! Captain Leo Liu, who sparred with me, can testify! My weapon was knocked out of my hand by him!"

"His strength isn't enough to knock your weapon away," Evan Xiao said coolly. "You used his force to your advantage."

"I didn't! General Xiao, I have no grudge against you. Why are you framing me?" Samuel Sun shouted, his face red with anger.

Edward Lawrence immediately understood and said furiously, "Samuel Sun! What grudge do you have against Grace that you'd try to kill her?"

"Huh?" Captain Leo Liu looked at Chloe Zhu.

How could he bring himself to hurt someone so beautiful?

Grace glared at Evan Xiao. Again?

Damn it, she couldn't fight back. It was really scary, okay?

"Don't worry, you won't hurt her," Evan Xiao assured Captain Leo Liu.

"Yes, sir." Captain Leo Liu took Samuel Sun's weapon and, just as instructed, hurled it at Grace with all his might.

Both the speed and power were clearly inferior to the previous throw.

Of course, as the weapon neared Grace, it still stopped in midair.

"Did everyone see that? Captain Leo Liu threw with all his strength, but the speed and power were less than before," Evan Xiao said. "If Samuel Sun's weapon was truly knocked away by Captain Leo Liu, a lot of spiritual power would be lost, and it couldn't possibly fly as fast as a shooting star."

Edward Lawrence immediately understood and said furiously, "Samuel Sun! What grudge do you have against Grace that you'd try to kill her?"

Samuel Sun's face turned pale and he looked miserable, but he hung his head in silence.

Grace stroked her chin thoughtfully. She had never met Samuel Sun before, so why would he want to kill her?

After thinking it over, she could only come up with two possibilities.

One was to avenge Fiona Liu.

But that possibility was slim.

Fiona Liu had died over half a year ago. If the Sun Family wanted revenge, there would've been plenty of opportunities—they wouldn't need to do it in front of everyone.

Besides, Fiona Liu was a concubine's daughter.

In other words, she wasn't a true-born daughter of the Sun Family.

So, it was unlikely the Sun Family would go to such lengths for a Liu family concubine's daughter who wasn't related by blood.

The other—and much more likely—possibility was Sophie Sun, whom they'd encountered last time in the Eastern Wilderness Forest.
