Thus, Evan Yang was locked in a contest of strength with the other party. If the man had wanted, he could have easily forced Evan down, but instead, he gave Evan a chance to shine. Evan's qi began to push back, surprising the middle-aged man. Although he deliberately restrained his aura, what he released was his true qi, not a fake projection.
As Evan's qi threatened to overwhelm the man's, the man's expression grew even more shocked.
Evan understood that as long as the other party didn't fully suppress him, his own qi would only grow stronger and eventually surpass the man's.
"Alright, that's enough. Let's stop here," the middle-aged man said.
Evan knew the man bore him no ill will, so he withdrew his qi as well. The middle-aged man looked at Evan suspiciously and said, "You really are impressive. I just don't understand how your qi could be so powerful."
"That's a secret," Evan replied with a smile.
"Then I suppose I was being a bit reckless," the middle-aged man said, smiling.
"You're too kind. May I ask what brings you here, Senior?" Evan asked with a smile.
The middle-aged man was briefly stunned, not expecting Evan to call him 'Senior.' He smiled and said, "It's nothing, really. I just heard my son wants to take you as his master, and I wasn't convinced. I wanted to see if you were truly qualified. Now, I think you're not bad at all."
"Senior, you flatter me. I actually have no intention of taking your son as a disciple," Evan replied.
The attendant was dissatisfied and said to Evan, "Then why did you let him go fetch something?"
"I only asked him to help out," Evan replied, which made the attendant furious. He wanted to say more, but the middle-aged man stopped him, "Enough, step back."
The attendant had no choice but to step aside. The middle-aged man smiled and said, "I do hope you'll reconsider my son. His strength may be average, but he's never acknowledged anyone as his master. This is the first time he's truly chosen someone—so please, just help him out."
"Senior, I prefer to travel alone and don't like taking disciples. I think it's best to let this go," Evan said, expressing his true thoughts.
"I see." The middle-aged man was a bit troubled, but his son had never chosen anyone as master before, and Evan's potential was truly remarkable. Perhaps Evan could lead his son onto an extraordinary path.
"Senior, let's leave it at that," Evan replied.
"Ah, what a pity for my son. Well, I'll take my leave," the middle-aged man said, and with that, he departed.
Evan watched the man's departing figure and muttered to himself, "Who exactly is this guy in their family? Could he be a bodyguard too?"
"Why are you spacing out?" Hannah Nangong asked.
"It's nothing, just thinking about something," Evan replied.
"I thought you were just dazed from talking to them," Hannah Nangong replied.
"Not really. I'm just curious why their young master refuses to pick any master and insists on choosing me, someone who's only a Heavenly-Immortal," Evan said, puzzled.
"I'd like to know that too. If their clan really has so many Emperor-Realm elders, they could easily find someone as a master. Why insist on you, a mere Heavenly-Immortal?" Hannah Nangong said, equally baffled.
"Forget it, let's not dwell on it. I'll wait for him to bring the item, then see what else I can do to help him—just to return the favor," Evan said.
"Accepting him as a disciple would be a pretty good way to return the favor," Hannah Nangong said with a smile.
"No way, I'm not taking a disciple," Evan shook his head and sighed.
"Alright, let's drop it. I'm actually curious to see how you'll return the favor," Hannah Nangong sighed.
Evan thought about it. At worst, he could just give him some kind of artifact or something valuable.
Just as Evan was considering this, Young Master Chase Chu returned, excitedly saying, "Senior, I'm back!"
"Yes, I see you," Evan said.
