Small Island Encounter 2

Liam Leshan replied, "I may be just a minor god from the lower realms, but now I am the chosen consort of a Divine Lord. One day, I’ll share her bed, enjoy conjugal bliss, and continue her bloodline. Why do you belittle me so much? Even if you look down on me, you shouldn’t treat the Divine Lord this way, should you?"

Conjugal bliss? Continuing the bloodline?

Noctis’s fists slowly clenched, and the demonic aura around him thickened.

Liam’s lips curled into a twisted smile. "Besides... Even if you look down on me, what exactly are you yourself? If I remember right, weren’t you once a hated mouse that everyone tried to kill?"

Noctis looked at him and suddenly grinned. "Are you looking to die?"

Nearby, Sean Shaw and Tanya Quinn could both sense Noctis’s murderous intent radiating out.

But Liam kept going: "Even if you kill me today, it won’t change your utterly lowly origins! Sure, people in all Three Divine Realms call you ‘Lord Noctis,’ but only because of Emperor Ray Quinn! Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten who you are? A mouse mocking a member of the Divine Race... That’s the real joke!"

Noctis reached out—an intense, razor-sharp blast of dark energy surged toward Liam.

Liam’s cultivation was nowhere near Noctis’s—he couldn’t dodge at all!

Tanya Quinn tried to intervene, but Sean stopped her and shook his head.

Just as Tanya Quinn was puzzling over what to do, she saw Noctis’s hand caught by a slender, pale hand.

Tanya appeared, shoved him away, and snapped, "Noctis! You’re getting more and more out of line. You actually tried to kill Liam Leshan!"

"Divine Lord..." Liam hurried to her side, looking both aggrieved and shaken, but also grateful and delighted. "Thank goodness you came! If not... I’d probably be dead right here."

Noctis stared at Tanya. "Is he really that important to you?"

Tanya replied, "Important or not, you shouldn’t act like this!"

"So is he important to you or not?"

Tanya glanced at Liam and answered, "He’s my future Imperial Consort!"

"Then what about me?"

"You?" Tanya frowned. "You’re Noctis! Why compare yourself to him?"

Noctis looked at her for a long moment, his spirit seemed to deflate, and he vanished from the island in an instant.

"Divine Lord..." Liam frowned. "Don’t blame Noctis! He probably didn’t really mean to kill me—his cultivation is just so high that even a casual lesson could’ve ended me! It’s my fault for being so weak..."

"Why did you two come here?" Tanya Quinn asked.

"Maybe... Noctis just wanted to give me a few reminders," Liam said.

"He’s been acting strange lately, more and more demonic," Tanya said. "I’ll have Lucy check his pulse later, see if he needs some medicine."

"Oh, that makes sense! If his demonic side is worsening, he should see a Spiritual Alchemist," Liam agreed.

"Did His Majesty the Celestial Emperor give you a hard time?"

"Not at all! In fact, he said Drake Abyss will buy my talismans from now on!" Liam looked genuinely happy. "His Majesty is so magnanimous and wise!"

Tanya smiled. "If there’s nothing else, you should head back. I’ve got training to oversee, so I won’t see you off."

"Divine Lord... our wedding date isn’t set yet, so..."

"Just talk to the Elders about that stuff," Tanya said.

Liam’s expression dimmed a little, but he bowed and left.

As soon as he left, Tanya whipped out a Messenger Charm and, in a slightly fierce tone, called out, "Noctis! Where did you run off to?"
