Never Seen Anyone So Foolish
"Reporting to Princess Lily Hayes, reporting to Deputy Minister of Justice, the criminal Panther took his own life out of fear of punishment and died in prison." The jailer rushed in to deliver the news.
Lily Evans was discussing how to handle the Sophie White case with the Deputy Minister of Justice when she heard the news and was surprised: "Panther actually committed suicide?"
The Deputy Minister of Justice said, "Maybe his conscience finally caught up with him?"
Lily pressed her lips together and headed to the prison once more.
When she entered the prison, the jailers were already handling the scene. Lily happened to see two jailers carrying Panther's body out.
Lily lowered her head and saw Panther's face covered with a black cloth, tied in a knot behind his head.
Judging by the look of the cloth, it didn’t seem like the jailers had covered his face. That meant Panther had done it himself before he died—probably because he couldn’t bear to face his ancestors in the afterlife.
"Panther is dead—my only family is gone! Are you happy now, Lily Evans?" Sophie White's venomous voice rang out. Her fingernails were bloodied from clawing at herself, and she glared at Lily with the hatred of a viper.
"Why would I be happy? I’m not bloodthirsty, nor am I a monster. Do you think I’m like you, rejoicing at the sight of death?" Lily Evans shook her head and looked at Sophie White.
"I’ll remember Panther’s blood debt, Lily Evans!" Sophie White glared at her. "I’ll skin you alive, tear out your tendons, drink your blood, and eat your flesh! I’ll avenge Uncle Panther!"
Lily Evans sighed. "If you want to avenge Panther, just kill yourself—why come after me? Didn’t you see Panther cover his face before he died? Sophie White, you forced him to help you kill all those children, didn’t you? If you hadn’t been so depraved, would he have found life so unbearable that he killed himself? If it weren’t for you, Panther would still be alive and free. Would he have committed suicide in prison?"
"No, I’m not wrong—you are!" Sophie White glared at Lily Evans, her eyes wild. "Hear me, I will never let you go, Lily Evans. One day, when you fall into my hands, I’ll make you wish you were dead!"
Lily Evans looked at Sophie White’s crazed expression and blinked. "Oh, I’m so scared."
Sophie White glared at Lily Evans, panting heavily, her face twisted with rage.
Lily Evans looked Sophie White up and down, then called to Xiao Yun behind her. "Xiao Yun, go now and crush all the bones in Miss White’s hands and feet. Sever her tendons as well."
A flicker of doubt flashed in Xiao Yun’s eyes, but he had always obeyed Lily Evans’s orders without question. He immediately replied, "Yes!"
With that, Xiao Yun opened the cell door, slipped inside, and locked it behind him.
Sophie White never expected Lily Evans to go so far. She swallowed nervously, flailing her shackled hands and feet as the chains rattled. "Lily Evans, you—you dare hurt me!?"
Lily Evans shook her head, looking at Sophie White. "I’ve seen foolish people, but never anyone as foolish as you. Your life and death are in my hands, yet you threaten me with all that talk—skinning me, tearing out my tendons, drinking my blood, eating my flesh, and making me wish I were dead. With such hatred, should I wait for you to come back for revenge, or should I cripple you first?"
"I—I..." Sophie White now regretted her words so much she wished she could bite off her own tongue.
Lily Evans sneered. "What? Now you’re scared? Too late. You’ve already revealed your true intentions, and now you’re only lying to avoid punishment. Xiao Yun, do it!"
