Counterattack

"Are you out of your mind? The lynx is tiny, and honestly, just looking at it, there's no way it can threaten the liger."

"Hey, Shawn, where'd you dig up this clueless kid? Is he just burning money for fun?"

Chester Zhang couldn't help but burst out laughing the moment he heard Evan Lin's bet.

"No brains."

Yvonne Zhu let out a cold snort, still holding a grudge over Evan's earlier attitude.

"Sir, that lynx barely stands a chance. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?" Shawn Shi looked at Evan Lin, clearly anxious.

"No need."

Evan shook his head. "Thirty points, all on the lynx."

Seeing Evan was dead set on betting the lynx, Shawn gave up trying to persuade him. He and Tony Dong each put ten points on the liger to win.

"Alright, everyone, bets are locked in! Get ready to open the cages!"

Inside the arena, two iron cages were slowly opened.

The liger strode out, each step heavy and thunderous, its thick paws smacking the concrete, tail raised high behind it.

Roar!

The liger's cold eyes locked onto the lynx across the pit.

The lynx kept its head low as it slipped out of the cage, silent as a shadow, tail drooping near the ground.

Its gaze never left the liger. Compared to the liger's high, proud tail, the lynx's was short and low, making it look much weaker.

"Go! Rip it apart!"

"Get him!"

"Liger! Swallow that little cat whole!"

Up in the stands, the crowd was fired up, shouting and roaring loud enough to shake the roof.

The liger seemed infected by the crowd’s frenzy and suddenly charged straight at the lynx.

Its three-meter frame was packed with raw power, but its speed didn’t lag behind despite its massive size.

In the blink of an eye—

The liger was right in front of the lynx.

Roar!

The liger let out a furious roar, swinging its powerful front paw at the lynx’s head. It looked like it was about to smash the lynx with one blow.

The lynx hunched its body, not dodging or flinching, and met the attack head-on.

"That lynx is just asking to die!"

"It’s got nowhere near the liger’s size or strength, and it still wants to fight head-to-head? What a joke!"

"I’ve won, I’ve won! Hahaha, I went all in—twenty points on the liger! Victory!"

A man shouted in excitement.

For most people, a million yuan was a huge sum. Even these Outer Strength fighters found it tough to make that kind of money.

Even Inner Strength experts had a hard time earning over a million unless their skills were recognized by a big family.

"See? No brains, just cocky. Let’s see how you lose now." Yvonne Zhu shot a smug glance at Evan Lin, already savoring the thought of him losing all his points and looking pitiful.

"I’ve won."

Evan Lin spoke calmly.

"Are you stupid or what? You’ve won? Can’t you see what’s happening? Look, the liger’s paw is already smashing the lynx’s head!" Chester Zhang burst out laughing, mocking Evan for refusing to admit defeat.

But when Chester glanced down at the pit, he froze, his face changing in an instant.

"No way!"

In the center of the arena—

The liger’s paw slammed down on the lynx’s head, but instead of getting flattened, the lynx surged upward and charged straight ahead.

Lightning-fast, the lynx sprang onto the liger, jaws wide, sinking its teeth deep into the liger’s neck.

Its four limbs locked tightly around the bigger beast, refusing to let go.

Roar!

The liger thrashed wildly, sprinting and even smashing itself against the walls, but it couldn’t shake the lynx from its throat.

Finally, the liger’s strength ran out, and it collapsed to the ground in defeat.

Moments later, it lay completely still.

The lynx, muzzle dripping with blood, bared its fangs and stared coldly up at the stands.

That vicious glare sent a chill through the hearts of many in the crowd.

Bang.

A gunshot rang out.

A tranquilizer dart struck the lynx dead-on. In no time, the lynx staggered and toppled over, unconscious.

Staff quickly entered the arena to clean up.

"This round is over! The lynx wins!"

Luke Lu announced loudly.

"What?! No way! The liger was supposed to win!"

The man who thought he’d won just moments ago couldn’t handle the sudden reversal. He lost all his chips and broke down in tears.

Most people had bet on the liger, and now they all looked utterly defeated.

The few who bet on the lynx were over the moon.

"How could this happen!" Chester Zhang’s face was dark with disbelief.

Yvonne Zhu ground her teeth in frustration, shooting a fierce glare at Evan Lin sitting nearby.

She didn’t care about the money—it was losing that stung.

But Evan Lin didn’t even spare her a glance.

That made Yvonne Zhu even more annoyed.

“Yvonne, in the beast arena, anything can happen. That liger clearly didn’t go all out. It underestimated its opponent. If it had used its full strength, that first swipe would have been enough to pin the lynx to the ground.” Gu Xiuran was calm as ever. “Even a lion uses all its strength to hunt a rabbit. In a life-or-death battle, the liger failed to understand that and died for it.”

Gu Xiuran looked at Evan Lin, curiosity in his eyes. “But tell me, little brother, how were you so sure the lynx would win?”

Earlier, when Evan Lin bet on the lynx, his confidence made it seem like he had everything under control.

That was some serious self-assurance.

“Instinct.”

Evan Lin replied coolly, his tone icy.

“Yeah right, just dumb luck. Instinct? You think you’ve got a woman’s sixth sense?” Yvonne Zhu sneered from the side.

“Sir, if I’d known, I would’ve followed your bet!”

Shi Wen felt a pang of regret.

He and Dongzi only had twenty points each.

Now he’d lost ten in one go, leaving just ten points. If he lost another round, he’d be out.

Evan Lin had just bet thirty points, and now he’d doubled it to sixty. Shi Wen couldn’t hide his envy.

Soon, the arena was cleaned up.

“Next round: North American gray wolf versus wolverine!”

Luke Lu swept his gaze across the arena and announced coldly.

“North American gray wolf, now that’s the king of Eurasia! One North American gray wolf can easily kill two Tibetan mastiffs!”

“Wolverine? Isn’t that a bit weak? What even is that?”

When people heard North American gray wolf, they were pumped. But mention wolverine and everyone was stumped.

Even the name ‘wolverine’ sounded unfamiliar.

Soon, two cages were pushed out from separate tunnels.

On the left, the North American gray wolf was over a meter long, weighed about 60kg, and its brown fur made it look absolutely regal.

The cage on the right held a tiny creature.
